Add email addresses back into Organizations

Before the March 2017 upgrade, I found this feature invaluable. Many companies and organizations use a single general email address for certain departments because they know they have high employee turnover or multiple people covering one area. Newsrooms, shipping, HR, accounting, small businesses, customer support — all of these and more use this strategy. 

I'm not sure I understand the benefits of eliminating the email field from Organizations or if there is a workaround for those of us who used this email field regularly. Or perhaps before you guys upgraded, you didn't realize the importance of this field?

I would love to bring it back or at least add a custom field that makes the email clickable, not just dead (like a text field) or wonky (like a domain field).

  • It is really fun we neeed to ask for it as "idea and suggestion". Or it si better to sayd it is parody... They are working on new custom field to ensure previous functionality. Obviously, it will be probably "paid" in the limit for custom fields. Or not? Great business strategy.

  • I saw there was a mention that the new email field would be added soon but no specific timeline has been given.  It is starting to become fairly annoying.  Right now, I'm going to create a text field and then will have to do it over again once the new field is out!

    Insightly team have released the tool to move e-mails and phones back to contacts and organisations. It works well. You can find a video Insightly made on how to use the tool, and also written instructions on how to use the tool below.

    I have noticed and reported only one minor bug. In the case you have contact duplicates after the one-email period, it is not possible to transfer e-mails of both of them. Only one e-mail, originally of master contact, is transferred. Moreover, master e-mail is duplicated after SmartMerge.

    You're correct the tool has been released which will allow you to restore your extra data into Custom Fields with one click of a button. This option is available under System Settings > Contact Information File Export. The new custom fields will be placed in the Details section at the top of contact or organization records.

    The custom field limits on your account will be increased by one for every new field you create, so these changes will not impact your current plan subscription.

Thank you Insightly for responding so quickly to this issue and for listening to our concerns and recognizing the alternative ways some of us are using the system. I know it must be difficult to put out a product that pleases as many people as possible, as there is bound to be a huge spectrum of users, uses, ways of working, and needs. Keep up the great work.
