Insightly to Mailchimp export not working

We're having the same issue I can see other have had after Insightly updates in 2016 - we keep getting the 'merge field invalid' message when trying to export from Insightly to Mailchimp (from within Insightly).

Some records push across fine. Others we get this message. Yet all records are set up the same way so there is no pattern to it.

Is this related to the current updates you've just done around reducing email address fields? In this case these records only have one email address anyway.

Please let us know what's up - wasting a lot of time this end. Thanks.

  • HI Petrina,

I'm going to have our team look into this and will follow up with additional information.

  • Hi Petrina,

We received an update from our team who informed us this is a Mailchimp mapping issue. MailChimp has merge fields (similar to our custom fields) in their list that are required. You are getting this error because you may not be mapping those required merge fields.
The way to fix this for now is to remove the required attribute on your merge fields

  • Hi Nora, That would make sense except for the facts that:

    - It's happening for some records and not for others (on identical data)

    - The only fields we're mapping are first name, last name, email address (all standard Mailchimp fields)

    - This only started happening after the Insightly "updates" from last week.

The only logical thing I can think of is that in the changes you've made to the email address field (maybe you renamed it in a way that's now not compatible with MailChimp integration?? or MC can't recognise the field now with the changes?).

Any other solutions or ideas surfaced at your end that would resolve this? When are the fixes to the updates being shipped?

  • Hi Petrina,

Thank you for the extra information!  Because we're going to need your account information to continue to discuss your issue, I'm going to start a private conversation with you outside of this thread.  Thank you for your patience!

  • Having the same problem. I have a short list from Insightly where only five of the 18 names imported into mailchimp. I've quit the programs, and still having the same problem.
