Records and Fields

I understand there are a certain # of records you can have, based on the type of plan you have paid for. My question is: 

Is one contact, no matter the # of fields I use in that one contact, considered a record?

OR

is each field in that one contact a record - meaning, if I use 8 fields in that one contact, it just used up 8 of my record limit.

    A record is any item stored in Insightly such as contacts, projects, organizations, opportunities, notes, files, tasks, comments, events and emails.
