linking tasks to contacts

Since this morning we are no longer able to link existing contacts to tasks that we create. We are using this option on a  daily basis.

  • I think something is wrong. I can't link contacts to an opportunity this morning. I search for a contact to link and it returns nothing.

  • I was able to link contacts and projects yesterday morning but not now.  Is there an update?  This is a big issue as it is the primary way we use the program.

  • I am suddenly having issues with linking tasks to organizations and contacts. I created a new organization this morning, as well as a new contact to that organization. I have a task that was created prior to these new additions, but I need to link this task to this new organization and contact. However, when I type their names in the field, it's not locating the new organization and the new contact. This was working without issue just yesterday.

This is also happening when I attempt to link an email sent to the new contact I created, to the organization. The organization does not appear in the search in the link field.

    Please advise.

    Thank you,

    Michelle

  • I see this has been an issue for more than a year now and as far as I can tell, has not been resolved.

I just changed to the New (an presumably improved) User Experience today and was amazed to discover I can no longer link Contacts to a Task once it's been created. Worse, creating a New Task from the Task tab means you can't link it to any Contact whatever.

Is there a fix for this? Or perhaps I'm missing how to get to this functionality in the New User Experience. In the meantime I've rolled back to the Old—and more functional—User Experience.

  • I'm having this problem too. When creating a task, I used to be able to link it to a contact or organization. Now it seems you can only link it to an opportunity or project. Below is a screenshot. "Related to" used to be "Link to," I believe. Now the only way to create a task specific to a contact or organization is to go into the record for that contact or organization, then go to "activity>add activity>add new task." Or am I missing something?

Can you share a little more on your steps and what you are seeing? Screenshots are helpful too, thanks!

  • Hi Michelle:

There can be a delay between when a record is created and when it will appear in searches. Is your record appearing in searches now? If not, please let us know the name on the record so we can take a closer look.

  • Hello Matt,

This is correct the system is working as intended. The workaround you referenced is the correct way for linking Tasks to a Contact. You also have the option to create the Task first > Select Related tab > Add Link for Contacts.

If you like to see this feature implemented in a future update to Insightly I recommend posting your request to our Ideas & Suggestions page. In general, the more activity a request receives, the more likely it is to be considered for implementation.

Thanks for the understanding and your feedback!
