Importing opportunities

Hi, we are currently in the middle of the migration process from our current CRM to Insightly. I want to bulk import Opportunities that are linked with the correct contacts.

Can someone please help me with the logistics of the import. Do we have to import contacts first and then opportunities?

If that is the case, how can we get the Record ID from contacts so we do not need to manualy insert all the Record ID's to each specigic opportunity when we bulk import opportunities?

Thank you for all the help.

Kind regards,

Benjamin

  • Hi Beno,

Linking Contacts to Opportunities is not an option when importing records. You may want to check out the Ideas & Suggestions page to see if this has been submitted by another user and add your vote. If you don't find it, you can add a new thread :)

  • Hi Lyla,

so if I understand correctly I can not import Opportunities and then have them linked to a contact eventhough I have entered the contacts RecordID in the CSV file?

I do not understand why is there an option to update existing records if we can not update them?

Isn't the recordID the unique data that Insightly ads to each contact when it is imported in the system?

  • Hi Beno, since linked Contact is not available for mapping it can not be added to your data in  this way. There are options to update existing records using the record ID but the fields to be updated are specific to the fields that are available.

  • Ok I understand now thank you Lyla. I have one more question if you could help me with.

When I import opportunities with the status WON, all the Actual close date fields have the date of the import in them when I open each individual opportunity in Insightly.

Is there a ceratin date formati that I must use?

What we need in the end is that all imported opportunities have the acctual dates of sale in them (all of them are in the past).

    Thank you for your help.

  • Hi Beno,

Our system doesn't support back-dating close dates at this point in time.  We'd recommend that you hold that data in a custom field.  If you'd like to see this implemented in a future update, the best thing to do would be to post your request to our Ideas and Suggestions page.

  • Thank you for your answer Dan. I have another question regarding dates. I have created a custom date field as you have suggested but when i try to import the oportunities the dates are not imported in the custom fields.

The date format that I used is MM/DD/YYYY. I also used the date format DD/MM/YYYY but the results were the same.

Please let me know where did I made the mistake.

    Kind regards

  • Hi Beno,

Did you make sure to map the import field over to your created custom field?  For custom fields, our system may not automatically identify and map the field correctly, so you may have to manually take that step.
