Navigating Contacts & Organizations

We have been using Insightly for a while and have been very happy overall. However, the new interface seems to have removed some features that were handy.  In the new interface, is there a way to jump to contacts or organizations by the first letter of their name?  There used to be an roladex like feature that would allow you to click on a letter in the index to go to a certain letter in the directory of contacts and organizations. Sometimes you don't know the name for which you are looking and its easier than trying to figure out what window to jump ot.

Thank you.

  • We really like the updates, but like William, I used the feature described everyday, and not having it is driving me nuts. The workaround I've been using is search, but it's a pretty terrible workaround, especially since we have some organizations with similar names and projects that have organization names in them.

  • Hi William and Michael,  Thank you for sharing this feedback.  I have shared it with our Product team.

William, to answer your question, with our more powerful elastic search you can search by the name of the contact or organization to find it faster than scrolling through all contacts sharing the same first letter.  I know this is a change from the process you used previously.  Should we add the rolodex to our new user experience, We'll be sure to let you and Michael know.

  • Hello Teresa: Thank you for responding.  Unfortunately, I had to open another ticket to raise concerns about the new search.  I am finding that many of our contacts and organizations aren't coming up when searching on the search field.  This is has been very frustrating and has made finding contacts much more difficult.  The other issue--if you don't know the exact name you are searching for, you still have to click through pages and pages before getting to the letter you need in contacts and organizations without the index.  This is very time consuming.

  • I have the same issue as William -- I'm trying to use search as a workaround, but it's just not working -- things come up in type ahead, but the results don't always include the projects or organizations I'm looking for. If I type out the full name, then search, I can find what I'm looking for on the search results page, Just feels like I'm jumping through hoops to do something that used to be easy.

  • I have roughly a dozen contacts with the first name Aaron. When I search for the first name Aaron, all but one shows up in the drop-down list. I have tried retyping the name on the contact page with no better results.

On my iMac, when I press the Control & F key simultaneously, a search box opens & it will very quickly find all that i have typed into the search box & allow me to quickly scroll to what I am looking for. This has helped me find contacts that for whatever reason are difficult to find otherwise in the contact list.

Also, I am finding that Insightly will occasionally just stop working. If I sign in again, it works again. There is no prompt to say that you are not signed-in, just stops.

  • Hello Stephen,

Sorry to hear you are having an issue with our search engine in your Insightly Account!

Can you provide me with the exact name of the person you are unable to locate?

As well with our Quick Search, it's based on the following:

    - Keywords and the order you type them

    - Relevant items

    - Weighted results

To explain further, for the keywords and the order you type them, that means as you start typing the words in the search bar, Insightly will look for results in that exact order. For relevant items, Insightly will look for the most relevant items first that match your keywords.

Lastly, the results will be weighted. That means if you have multiple records spelled the same, all those records will populate in the search. The article Searching in Insightly explains how the search function works and has tips that may help you find your results.

    I hope that helps!
