2 Way Google Contact Sync

It would be nice if the contact sync had two features:

  1. The ability to sync both ways.

  2. If the sync is only one way, the option of selecting which contacts will be synced to your Google Contacts.

  • Yes, this definitely needs to be added. The Synchronization needs to be both ways.

  • So, is the sync still only from Google into insightly?  So handy to have it be a true 'sync'

  • @Garret- You're correct its currently not two-way.

  • I was able to delete data in my Google account.  If you have a common contact in your Google Contacts and the Insightly label that synchronizes in you are OK if you keep the entries. If you use the "Find Duplicates" tool in Google Contacts you will unify the data, your existing contact gets the "Insightly" label. If that contact is updated it will overwrite your version. If you go to your Insightly control panel and re-sync your contacts it will overwrite any contacts  with the Insightly label.

    Just be cautious.

The Sync is a great tool and I appreciate the complexity of getting a 2-way sync working.

  • @Will Lentz Last I knew two-way sync was not possible. Was this on a paid account?

  • Yes, well, the trial for a paid account. I am in IT and our research staff had me in the group during the trial. If you are careful and remember anything with the Insightly label in your contacts should not be edited in Google Contacts you should be OK.

  • I agree because I need a way to two-way sync my contact's address book on my phone with Insightly and I can only see it done with Google Contacts.

My phone syncs with Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, Twitter and Linkedin with all their phone apps and gathers info on all my contacts and their social media. All this info is synced back and backed up on Google contacts. Insightly could utilize so much more info about our contacts if they would just offer two-way sync and allow the Google groups to sync as tags.

Not to mentions this is a backdoor way to sync with Linkedin that every CRM seems to be complaining they are NOT being allowed to do with Linkedin.

  • Not having a two way sync is a major negative.  Hopefully this is something that will be resolved soon.

  • Two way syncing is a must. We don't have the Insightly app on all of our devices so we could add a contact in Google contacts.

  • Good news! PieSync just released an Insightly connector. This allows you to sync your contacts two-way.

Here's a blog post with more information.

You can start a free 14-day PieSync trial right here and then you can sign up for the pricing plan of your choice.

  • The problem with PieSync is that they will sync your groups as a subset of syncs but not sync all your groups as tags for Insightly.  I have done the run around with their support and they are not very helpful. it seems they are only good for syncing name, organization, phone, one address, email.

They are still very limited which is not good for a paid service.

  • Hi Natalie,

Insightly phone numbers will definitely sync with Google Contacts (work, fax, mobile, pager, home, other,...).

Other data that gets synced is first name, last name, email addresses, background, job title, street addresses (work, home, other).

We indeed don't yet sync all your tags and groups, you can set your own filters, syncing the contacts in a certain group to a certain tag and vice versa.

  • There are a lot of companies out there (such as FullContact) that are providing two-way contact sync.  These services are using CardDAV as the basis of that sync process.

However,  Insightly could *avoid the entire sync problem* if they just made their contacts natively available via their own CardDAV server.  There's [virtually] no sync problem if the changes are made directly within Insightly [via CardDAV].

Please vote on this related and alternative approach to solving this problem:

  • This x100000.

Having difficulty wrapping my head around how "sync the thing that will have only handfuls of contacts, to the thing that manages all of your contacts, but not the reverse" was deemed a useful feature.

I'm a newer Insightly user and loving a lot about it, but the one thing that's killing me is just how ridiculously manual everything is; and amazingly, the API integrations seem to offer nothing to help this.  Manually link contacts/organization/opportunities 12 ways.  Manually add to a given MailChimp list.  Manually type in an individual name, e-mail, phone, and other detail for every contact, unless using the Gmail plugin, then manually click four more times and wait for various interfaces to load.  Manually record every e-mail.  Manually attach it to a Contact.  Manually attach that to an Organization.  Then manually attach both, individually, to an Opportunity.

Coming from Google sheets, it does provide some extra functionality, but man does it multiply the time sink of it all.

  • Agree with Corey. As currently implemented this one way sync feature is absolutely worthless. Its a marketing gimmick.

  • I have to use PieSync to get closer to the two way sync that I need. I am not enjoying paying them for work that Insightly should be providing. Even then, PieSync does not do the organization sync from Google to Insightly. However it is closer

  • Team Insightly,

Please, please, please add this feature... I want to stay with Insightly, but Zoho offers this and I'm getting pressure to migrate.

Please also give us an indication of when this might be out ...hopefully soon... :)

    Insightly ROCKS!

  • Hi Ray,

Have you considered using our service for the two way sync with Google contacts and Insightly? You can read more about it on the Insightly's integrations page https://www.insightly.com/integrations/piesync/

Feel free to reach out if you require any assistance.

I think what everyone in this string is saying that they expect this to be part of the CRM, not an add-on.

Insightly advertizes " ...Insightly offers the ability to sync your Insightly contacts with your Google Contacts list... ". I would not call the current system a sync, I would call it a push.

My users like Insightly and want to keep using it but the lack of a working sync is a detractor.

  • Hi Grega,

Yes, PieSync looks great... but it is a $19 or $49 / month service... are you REALLY proposing this?

Insightly is priced right @ $15 / month... we will not spend another $19 on top of this.

Furthermore, the "C" in CRM is CUSTOMER / CONTACT ...how can you expect to serve your own clients well without good GMAIL / GCONTACT integration... the contact data is the CORNERSTONE of the CRM concept, yes ?

You will continue to grow your user base if you add this feature... If not, we will have to migrate elsewhere...

Help us stay with Insightly !

  • Hi Ray and Will,

We at Piesync definitely agree with you, thats the reason we exist. :) We noticed that most of CRM (and other cloud) tools dont have a two-way sync feature available, and we fill in this gap. I understand that if you just want to have one bidirectional sync, 19 or 49$ is too much, but thats why offer a 5$/month Micro plan (you can find it on our pricing page). More expensive plans allow you to create multiple connections, eg if you want to connect Insightly not only with Google Contacts, but also with your email marketing and accounting tools.

    Hope this helps,

    Grega

  • We definitely need this as an option! Why not offer

    1. 2-Way Syncing

    2. One way Syncing - From Google to Insightly

    3. One way Syncing - From Insightly to Google

    ?

The fact that this product is advertised a Premier Google Integration App and you can't sync google contacts is pretty ridiculous. I was comparing this to Solve360 and this looks like an all round better CRM, but this could be a deal breaker.

It sounds like a LOT of people want it and according to a FaceBook thread it appeared that Insightly offered 2-Way Syncing in the past... So the question is why wouldn't you give the option for 2-Way Syncing and why isn't this a planned update?

  • Hello everyone. We appreciate everyone's votes and comments on this request. As someone pointed out we have discontinued a two-way sync a few years ago. This decision was made due to the downsides of two way sync in a multi-user environment.

We recommend using Piesync integration for customers who need this integration.

We appreciate your votes and please continue voting here. Thank you.
