Completed Task Count in Tabs (within Projects/Contacts/etc)

My feature request:

Please change the # of tasks displayed on the tasks tab in a project/organization/contact to actually reflect open status tasks, and not just ALL the tasks.

Background:

When viewing a project/organization/contact, there is a Tasks tab that displays a count of all the tasks connected to that record. This is very useful, allowing you to quickly know how my there needs to still be done for that project/organization/contact/etc. My only issue here is that the number displayed is of ALL the tasks connected to that record, and not just the open tasks. An example: If I have a project with 3 tasks, where 2 are completed, seeing the number "3" does not allow me to know the actually amount of tasks left to complete.

I also hear you've been testing out things in Insightly which is awesome. Has there been anything you've discovered (a helpful tip, trick, or workaround) that you could share?

    I do not yet have any specific tips and tricks that I can share. Your software makes things easy to manage/import everything. But right now, I am working to come up with a plan for myself on how I will actually use your tools. Every day I develop more theories on how I can manage my projects quickly and efficiently through your software. The tricky part is finding the balance between over complicating or over simplifying everything that I have added.

    In time I will have detailed feedback for you. I currently have a list of things that I find hard to use, or that do not make sense. But, more importantly, I also have an even bigger list of things that are great! I can truly see how your software can allow my company to grow from something simple to a large, well oiled machine.

    Now if the tabs would only show me what is Due and not all of what I have added, one little thing can be taken off my list :)

    Regarding tabs -- I talked with our content manager to get a better understanding of why the display is as such and he told me told me the tasks subtab (within contacts/opportunities/projects/organizations) displays the total number of tasks because it's meant to give you an overview of the tasks in your Insightly account. Tasks are grouped by due date and put into sections of time (Overdue, Today, Next Week, Later) and those subtotals are shown - with the intention to give you a better understand of what tasks are due today and what tasks are due this week. However, I can see how if you wanted to view a total of all your open tasks it could be time consuming to add up each section's subtotal. And if you had a super long list of tasks in each section it would be time consuming to scroll and scroll and scroll just to get that number. What you're requesting are two things: 1) For Insightly to add up the sections and provide a total number for all open tasks (whether they are today or later) and 2) Provide some way at the very top for you to view this. Yes?

    Your response is a little backwards from what I shared/requested, but I may not have made myself clear. I am actually not looking for your company add the total count of tasks in any specific place. I am looking for the opposite of that. When viewing a any asset (project/organization/etc), you see a list of tabs/pages for that asset. The Tasks tab already displays the total count/number. My request is that it should only show the # of Open tasks still, and not a count of all open and closed tasks. Please review the following example:

    I have a client/customer in my system that I randomly think about on a Tuesday. I log into my Insightly site, find the contact, and review their account. Here is their "Info" tab:

    It is great to see that I have 1 email connected to them, and have added one note. But the numbers displayed in the Tasks and Events tabs makes me feel like I have 2 tasks open for them, as well as one future event. But that is not the case. Though there are 2 tasks, only 1 is "Open":

    Sometimes your system shows me too much information. In this case, it is showing me all the tasks. That doesn't help me know how many things I "owe" the client.

    So.. my request is the following:

    When viewing any individual asset (contact/project/etc), you show the number of Open tasks, and the number of Future events, on the appropriate tab, instead of showing the total count.

    Lastly, you asked the following: "1) For Insightly to add up the sections and provide a total number for all open tasks (whether they are today or later) and 2) Provide some way at the very top for you to view this. Yes?"  I am not sure what section are, and am not sure which page you are discussing. When on the Tasks page/tab, you already show to the number of tasks within any category. Take this screenshot from one of my contacts:

     You can see that there are 4 tasks total (displayed in the tab, circled in Blue). 1 is due total (circled in Green). 3 are completed (circled in Green). Again my request is that the number in the tab (circled in blue) is the total Open (should be 1) and not all tasks (4).

    So what is next? How does your group handle feature requests? Is there a review process of everything new to see if you would actually develop it? Can someone pay for a feature to be added / adjusted? Or is it more that if multiple people ask for something, the consideration of actual development towards the feature is higher?

  • I'll be reviewing the new requests under Community - Product Feedback with our Director of Product and our Sr. QA/Support Engineer each week. During these sessions I'll find out if a.) the feature is already on the roadmap b.) there are plan to put the feature on the roadmap c.) the feature is not on the roadmap but is something for consideration or d.) won't be able to happen in the near future. We don't accept payment for a feature to be added/adjusted. The number of votes carries weight as it gives an indication of user demand  -- keeping in mind every request is dependent on time, resources and feasibility of being launched. Hope that helps!

  • YES YES - I have contacts showing 30 tasks but 28 are completed. Really the 2 would be so so so much better.

  • This is a feature I would love to see implemented.  Seeing the total number of tasks associated with a client is not useful, seeing that I owe them two or three items right from the project task bar would be very useful!
