Link File to Task

We have larger projects that are comprised of many tasks. As the tasks are completed, some have a deliverable to be passed to the next employee.

Multiple employees are working simultaneously on separate tasks and submitting documents to the "File" section of the project. It would be great if we could link a file to a (completed) task as the project tab can get quite full and messy quickly.

Is it possible to link a file to a task so that it is clear that a file is the deliverable to a particular task?

Thank you!

  • Hi Trevor,

It's not possible to link a file to a task but you could see if uploading a file to the task comments section works for you. Keep in mind that task comments is not integrated with Google Drive or any of the other storage integrations like Dropbox, Box, etc.

It will be interesting see how other customers are handling their project/file/task situation. Thanks!

  • I would find it very helpful to attach a file to a task, too.  This is especially beneficial when you are assigning a task to another person and want them to have detailed information required for the task.

  • Both creating a file/document as a task AND an email as a task would be really helpful for me.  Running into this as a challenge almost every day.

  • The ability to link a file to a task, contact, organization, opportunity, and project would be ever so helpful for my team as well.  If it could just mirror the functionality of a note (we're still using word docs instead of insightly notes).

  • linking files to tasks (in addition to projects) would be a HUGE enhancement!! The project files is OK, but it gets a little messy on larger efforts where there are many files involved.

  • Hi @Jessica,

Is there any updates or ETA on when this feature would be delivered?
I also agree that this is a highly useful feature.

    Thanks

  • I agree with this also.  Would be great.  My workaround is that it is linked to the contact because it came via email, but it's a few more clicks than the ideal.

  • I just uploaded the file to the task comments, and that seems to work for us.  We're still on a trial, so trying out different things.

  • Linking files to tasks would be very helpful for me as well.  You should be able to link files, emails, etc. to tasks as well.

  • Thanks I did vote although I noticed that after I created the task and then went back into it, I could attach a file in the comments section. Not sure why I couldn't just do that when creating the task.

  • Voted... although the vote is a heart icon now and not an up/down arrow.

Being able to attach files to a task is crucial, and a strange oversight considering you can add files and link to google docs in a number of different places.

Does the Insightly team actually use Insightly? If so, how is this not an issue internally as well?

This would be great to have!

  • Hi Steve,

I understand how important this is for you. Our team does use Insightly. Currently the two workarounds I've heard being used is uploading the file to the Task Comment as well as linking the Task to a record (Contact) and adding the file under the record.

    Thanks for your feedback.
