Tip for creating and uploading pipelines

Because a company can have anywhere between 5 and 50 pipelines, we like to outline them on a spreadsheet before we upload them into Insightly. We create a spreadsheet where each tab is a new pipeline. For each pipeline we identify what tasks apply, who will do it, when, what category it's under and any details that needed to be included with the task, including video training links, document links, etc. Then we divide the pipeline into activity sets. Vetting things out on a spreadsheet makes uploading pipelines into Insightly SO much easier. :) I hope this helps!

  • Melissa, you said you "Upload them into Insightly". Is this just semantics and you mean you manually create them, or is there an upload feature for pipelines that I'm not aware of? Because, that would be excellent!

This is a good practice either way. I'm working out my own spreadsheet, but I'm afraid it's a little unwieldy. Is your spreadsheet something you can share or is it proprietary?

  • @Matthew Unfortunately there isn't a way to mass upload pipelines to Insightly yet. We are hopeful they will add this feature in the future (hint hint, Brenda! ;) Meanwhile, I made you a short screen shot video to give you an idea of how we organize pipelines and activity sets in spreadsheets before we upload them to Insightly. If there's any other questions you or anyone else has about organizing pipelines or the spreadsheet example in this video, let me know. I would be happy to help.

Usually the Pipelines and Stages are the lesser part.... its the tasks that are many more, and the order of them that may change.

  • I note these is no API for Activity sets (and ordered tasks within them) for us to try to be able to develop an external (eg XLSX, VB -> API calls) way of providing this functionality ourselves. arrrrggghhhg.

Any plans for get/delete/post Activity sets (including the tasks and their logical order)... that are then used in the Pipelines and stages?
