Converting leads to contacts

I love the new leads feature but I want to convert leads to contacts without having to create an opportunity. Is there a way to go around creating the opportunity?

  • Hi Erin,

    Glad you love the leads feature! I'm afraid there's no way to convert a lead to a contact without creating an opportunity. The idea being that a lead has to be qualified and by doing so will keep your data organized and save record storage space. I would still suggest posting this feature request under Community - Product Feedback. This way the community can comment and vote on it. :) Thanks!

    I wanted to add that I can totally see how there might be instances where you wouldn't need the opportunity that was created when you converted a lead. In those cases, you'll have to delete the opportunity. The contact that was created when you converted the lead should remain. Thanks!

  • I would love to have a lead category but it doesn't seem to be available for me.  Do I need to upgrade?

  • You know the fact of the matter is that this is just a software package and these "leads" are just rows on datatable(s) (same with contacts)....That with just a little bit of coding on your part (and a button or two), "leads" could  easily be transfered over to "contacts"

    The fact that you guys seem to be totally stiking to your guns on this one makes me believe that you don't really listen to your users (which happen to also be your customers). It sounds like a group software developers that I know that always tells their users (in jest)-- "it's our way or the highway"

  • Hi Florida Ridge. I wanted to make sure I was reading your comment correctly -- you actually can convert a qualified Lead into an Opportunity/Contact! Here's our entire set of Lead FAQs to learn more. Erin's request to bypass creating an Opportunity when a Lead is converted is being considered for the next revision of Leads. Our CEO addresses this on Erin's duplicate post here. Be sure to add your vote if this feature matters to you!

    Also, I'm sorry if you feel that we're not listening! Our entire team tries to be very present in this community - listening and responding to our customers. We're also constantly monitoring your comments and votes as we use both to help us make decisions about our product roadmap. But you've brought up a good point and it sounds like we need a more formal way (than just replying on individual blog posts) to communicate this is happening! Thanks!
