Bulk Update via Import

Hey!

Are there any plans to incorporate a bulk update ability via importing? I realize the way Insightly is currently set up that it's looking for duplicates, but it would be super awesome if I could also update existing records just by adding a new column to my spreadsheet.

  • This is an essential, basic feature. I am floored it is not part of Insightly, and is a big problem. I have to edit by hand 200 contacts, each with a different data point in a particular field. BULK EDIT does not do what I need it to do. PLEASE add this feature!!!

  • Hi Juliana,

This feature is not currently available; however it is on our roadmap for 2016.

  • Hi There.

Adding my name to this list, with regular updates to 2500 contacts and counting, It is impossible to think I can keep insightly working as a key software component of our business. It looks like there is plenty of support for it, with the people who are willing to post comment. There must be a lot more not commenting and either dealing with it or leaving.

I hope there are plans to implement this soon

  • I see this upgrade to allow bulk editing via import is on the "roadmap for 2016" but when?  This feature is essential to maximizing the use of a CRM.  Any updates on when we can expect this feature to be added?

  • Hi Lauren:

Since our resources and priorities can shift quickly we don't have specific release dates available for feature updates.I definitely understand that you are anxious to see it released - we are too. And we will update here when it's ready.

  • My needs to update of contacts with new tag information.   I have several thousand Tag updates to make, and it is not feasible without a Bulk Update via Import. Today that useful data is stuck outside Insightly.  Please make sure I can update the Tags associated with Contacts as part of this feature.

  • Given the seemingly endless requests for this feature, can you advise as the priority level of this development?

  • Agreed. The vague answers regarding when this feature will be released is extremely discouraging. Considering how vague the answers have been ("it is on our roadmap", "priorities can shift quickly" etc.) I am wondering if anyone is even working on this, or is it just a thought as the complaints continue to amount? On top of the other challenges our team has experienced with Insightly, I am seriously reconsidering our decision to choose this CRM.

  • This is taking forever. This feature is an absolute must have! See podio for how it should be done. Clean and fantastic implementation! Please make this a priority

  • This is an absolute necessity when you are using Insight.ly as a center for contact and workflow management.  The other tools will output and input spreadsheets and some manner of overlay importing to existing contacts is just needed (this would include field deletion too).  I simply don't want Insight'ly as an island, not richly intertwined with my other workflow tools.  It's also possible that Insight.ly could develop synchronization tools with every other popular mail, website management, cloud service, invoicing, ERP, time management, etc system out there but that seems far too overwhelming an amount of development.

  • This thread has been open for over a year with over 100 comments. For those still holding out hope for this feature I strongly encourage you to pursue another service. Pretty clear it's not a priority.

  • Losing patience, Insightly. Very disappointing you haven't integrated this very basic feature. We are a paying customer. Looking for alternatives to your service and feel I will not be able to recommend your service to other small businesses.

  • I've been pretty happy with Nutshell and have heard very good things about Highrise. I'm a bit wary of Highrise because it has an iPhone app but not an Android app. But honestly that's much more of a convenience issue as opposed to a usability/functionality issue like the one this thread is about.

  • We started using Nimble a little while ago - bulk updates and team tagging work, but the really useful aspect is the use of social media profiles. We're happy with it.

  • Adding my name to the list for this update. This is a must for companies with 1000's of contacts/organizations, and I see that many other users agree. Please update!

  • Same here. We have 7000+ contacts in our current database. We have 25+ events per year and the participants are new/current entries. We want to add the latest event information to contacts already in the database.

  • Absolutely an essential feature... If I can't upload a set of contacts from another source, with a common tag to all of them, knowing that some already exist in my database, ending up with duplicate contacts of all those that already existed seems absolutely counter intuitive.

  • Hello,

I understand how it is with dealing with software updates and adding new features when programming.  Always needing to check that one small addition does not run wild on other features or designs.  I do wonder if the following could be a possibility depending on how your import system works.

From the email report I receive after an import, the system seems to detect the duplicates, ignores them, and marks it as a duplicate for the email.  What if you could possibly add a Tag to them in Insightly?  For example, lets say you have a sheet with 1000 entries.  During the import, if the entry is flagged as a duplicate, give it a tag like "Aug 16-dupes".  Once the import is complete, the users will see a new tag they could just click on and run bulk edits there.  Now, I know this would not be the most ideal version, however it could go a long way with a smaller timetable than doing a rebuild on your import.

With a temporary tag setup, a user can just immediately see all the duplicates and go down the list individually in Insightly or do bulk edits.  When done, they can clear the tag.  If you wish to go an added step, add an option on import if they would like the potential duplicates tagged or not to avoid flooding the tag fields.  Especially for the user that NEVER delete a tag field, yeah I know there are few of you reading this that do that.

Anyway, I know there would still be some work in this and in reality, it is still more of a band-aid (is band-aid trademarked?) but it would be a possibility to help people update tons of contacts without going back and forth in a spreadsheet and update multiple contacts at once.

Oh, and before I forget, your system rocks and I enjoy using it! ...even with a few other things I would like to see changed.  :)

  • Hello everyone, I am pleased to let you know that this feature is now in development. As some of you have pointed out in our user research, updating your datasets in bulk is not something we should take lightly, so if you see any concerns or see potential pitfalls or risks with introducing this feature, please don't hesitate to voice them here. Our engineers, product and test teams are delighted to bring this needed improvement to you and appreciate your patience with us.

  • Adding my name to this list too and like others have stated, I am floored your CRM does not have this, even at a rudimentary level - I dont know how anyone can use this seriously without it!

Just a little feedback, we commercially used your system due to its complete package (projects, tasks, crm/opportunities). We used the api extensively for things your core system didnt have such as record updates. When the software significantly updated its interface (1 to 2 years ago) in the wrong direction, making it harder to manage large amounts of tasks and making it harder to easily see relationships/links without scrolling and also because we outgrew it also due to its limitations with functionality for contractors to log in and utilise project management features...  ...We move CRM operations to Sales Force and Project Management operations to Wrike. To this date Wrike is a masterpiece and extremely well supported and nothing will come close so we continue to use this. Sales Force is unsuitable for our needs as many things are just too clunky and it's expensive. So... we're in the process of trialing your system (and others) for our CRM operations again. I must say that I'm a little disappointed, I'm not seeing any productive changes since we last used it and the import feature, which is critical for our transfer from another system still does not exist. Im feeling very uneasy about returning due to lack of any productive improvements and even looks like your shiny new interface from years ago no longer feels shiny and new and is rather dated still with all its inadequacies caused by the initial shift to the new interface. What worries me most is the lack of useful improvements, some of which are totally critical such as this import update feature and better integration/sync/etc with Microsoft Exchange, I'm feeling extremely worried about again spending all the time to shift to Insightly as it feels like time has stood still here - VERY WORRYING. ...and we dont have the time to program all the required things we need via API anymore. Dare i say it but is Insightly in it for the long haul or are things not so good now - sorry but as someone about to spend a lot of time to invest in your system and seeing some very shaky ground here - I must ask the hard questions?

  • We have 150K organizations and 112K contacts. I need to be able to bulk edit both. We rent lists and they provide updates to contact info, etc., and we need to be able to make updates to existing orgs and contacts. When we get 3K changes at once, it's impossible to do it by hand. Also, we don't know WHAT has changed from what we're given, so this needs to be a smart tool. Apparently, it's a function in Salesforce, which my team keeps telling me about. We really like Insightly and don't want to have to make a huge jump like that. Looking forward to this function in the near future.
