Format

Can you please add a format for each standard field. (i.e. phone numbers will automatically format as (###) ###-#### or anything else that will be uniform when entering just numbers)

  • It's tough to define a standard format when internationally, the standard formats in different countries may vary. (###) ###-#### works well for the US, but the doesn't include country code, local codes, etc.

  • Jeff, I am not a programmer but all I can say in response is that my phone has the ability to format any number I put in it approperietly to the country I am dialing. I also don't have a preference for a format I would just prefer a standard for all of the standard fields (i.e. phone numbers, website should have domain, email should have @****.***) when I enter unformated information. This is an option on Microsoft Access and it seems to work well for most users.

  • I agree with Zach. I'm a programmer and that's kind of a basic thing. Lots of other software and devices do this with no problem. I was actually surprised when I verified that it didn't auto format.

  • Hi all,

Every region/country has their own requirement. At this time we feel its not the best practice to auto-format for a global product; however we're open to feedback and suggestions regarding this from our Community.

  • I would be great if there were an *option* to select preferred format, whether that be 123.456.7890 or (123) 456.7890 or whatever is best for international numbers. I don't think Insightly necessarily needs to impose a format on all users, but giving users the option of setting their own default format would be very helpful.

  • hard to believe that there is no option ---- considering how much time this company spends on customer service - and the amount of emails that are sent out to users ---

    very disappointing --

giving an option to the user to format is standard stuff today

Appreciate the feedback, sorry this isn't an available option.

  • Seems it should be pretty easy to add a field for a country code like a lot of the other CRM software companies do. And then that selection to tell it how to format the number. When importing a lot of contacts via Business Card Reader for Insightly this is a total time waster.

I agree this shouldn't be that difficult to accomplish.

  • Why are there so many things missing in this program? Is there a plan in place to catch up with standard practice at some point. things like

Ability to format phone numbers so they are uniform, as noted above.

ability to add multiple phone numbers, emails, addresses

Ability to add nicknames, informal salutations, Jr. and Sr.

Place for spouse, children, other info.

Too many questions get answered by saying "why don't you create a custom field for that". It's starting to feel like Insightly is just someone's hobby project.

  • Here's another topic: If a phone number is stored in Insightly such as 123-456-7890 x999, the Andriod app dials the number including a prefix "011" for international calls.....But, if I edit the listing to be only "123-456-7890", then it seems to be ok throught he Android dialer.

So, another example of phone umber formatting that the phone seems to be able to accommodate OK

  • Insightly needs standard formatting for phone numbers!  Lack of standard formatting causes problems when syncing with Google Contacts and then trying to dial these numbers from you iPhone or Android phone!

Please tell your software engineers to use a little intelligence.  You should be able to do the following:

    1.  Make the standard home format for the format of the country you are located in.

    2.  If a contact country is other that the home format, use the format for that country.

These are simple steps that you can apply today!

    Make Insightly Great Again!
