Can't Paste Into Notes
Please help. I often pull data from multiple sources and paste directly into notes for an opportunity, however lately I can't. The only way I am able to paste is to create a blank note and then go back and edit the note - at which point, I can paste in to the edited note.

Hello John,
I too have had many issues with different types of key combinations / pasting / formatting. I would be interested in your specifics.
I tested what you mentioned here and I do notice behavior. Specifically:
Like you, bring content into Insightly from different sources is important in my daily work flow. When Insightly removes my formatting, or does not allow me to use ctrl+a (and other key combinations), it can get very frustrating.
Can you share your specifics? Like your browser, software, if you are it fails when you paste completely, if it removes formatting only?
Again, I am seeing issues like you mentioned. I have Plus One'd this thread. If you have any similar issues to the one I mentioned above, can you also Plus One that thread to ensure Insightly knows there is more support for a fix.
Thanks.
-Jeff
I'm also having issues with formatting and with Insightly dropping line breaks. I'm trying to move from another CRM to Insightly, and I'm trying to import my old notes and emails. But when I do the import, it comes over to Insightly as one big block of text, with no formatting.
Anyone have any idea if this is a bug, or a "feature"?
By definition, I can not believe anyone would make this a "feature". I would go with Bug. The textareas simply act very weird... and act differently on different pages... and also act different before and after you save the content. Very annoying.
The formatting support is deplorable. We write our meeting minutes in notes in Insightly and when you scroll the formatting tools do not follow you. They just "disappear" at the top and you need to scroll back up to change the formatting. It seems notes is just made for very, very short texts, and without andy formatting. All emails I bcc to Insighlty also get completely destroyed formatting wise. This is a big issue for us. Reading these emails is almost impossible when they end up in Insightly. I have ticket open at the moment and look forward to hearing what is wrong, and or what they are doing about this, if anything.
Glad to see you posting here about it. I too have had a tickets open about these issues with no luck. I have been told "it works for them", and suggested I post here to see if other people have the same complaints. Pretty much they are saying that unless people come out in droves to say they are unhappy and/or are having the same issues, their team will not look into this further. Thank you for posting here. Also, make sure to "Upvoate" the original post so they know that people are backing it.
I saw the same thing before - where I'd paste in formatted text into a new note, and when I saved it the line breaks would be dropped. But it isn't doing that for me now.
But I did have a ticket open about Insightly dropping the line breaks from imported notes, or notes sent via API. They said the were aware of the issue, and did not have a time estimate on fixing it.
Looks like it's all browser compatibility. Chrome copies and pastes ok, but Safari won't do it at all. Looks like the user above is using Firefox.
Thank you for posting, Garrett. This bug has been a huge reason why I am simply not using Insightly for everything. Their "features" that are supposed to help with nice formatting really make formatting tough. I still do most of my work outside Insightly, which is a shame.
Thank you for all the posts and workaround, We have a bug logged for this issue. As Garrett mention(Thank you), copy and paste works fine with Chrome browser. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience as we work to resolve the problem.
Thank you!
+1
Thanks - seeing this in Safari on Mac
Using chrome is not a workaround, the issue should be addressed.
100% agree, Mat. This bug removes the most basic usage of a CRM. It really is unacceptable. And eve more so that it has been around for almost 2 months here. It was brought up before that in April too. Unacceptable.
I've found InSightly Dev pretty responsive on issues that I've posted here, so maybe this one is proving more difficult than it seems on the surface.
Perhaps Nipuna B. could offer us an update?
Thank you Patrick! We have a fix ,which we are testing as we speak. We will release it as soon as possible.
Greatly appreciate all your patience!
Thank you,
Just wanted to let you all know that copy and paste issue in safari on mac is fixed and released.
Thank you all for your patience!
Thanks, Nipuna! Working well here.
What about other browsers and operating systems? All formatting is still being stripped for Firefox on a Ubuntu machine.
Thank you Patrick Gilmour for confirming and Thank you all of you for letting us know it is working.
@Jeff, currently we don't support Fire fox on a Ubuntu machine. Here is a link for Insightly recommended browsers.

Thank you!
Having the same issue as Brady... Importing Notes, need to be able to have line feeds/breaks within the note body.
Please advise/fix asap.
Nipun,
I tried the same test in Firefox on Windows 7 and I can not paste. As per the tech note link you shared, this should work. I really wish you guys/gals could figure this out ASAP.
Hi Jeff,
Please make sure you are using latest version of Fire fox. I have tested on windows 7 with latest fire fox browser and seems like copy/paste works for me.
Thank you,
I have the latest software for all my browsers. Please note, you do not specifically know what my test was to properly run a test that can confirm or deny my issue.
Though you did not ask, I will share...
I opened a previously created Note, opened Notepad on my computer, typed multiple lines of garbage text with line breaks, and pasted it into a new comment for the note. Literally what gets pasted in is "flattened".
Since me telling you that this is happening is not enough proof for you, and you are calling me a liar, I have ran a test on CrossBrowserTesting using Windows 7 and the latest FF and took a video...

What is the next step here?
Did the same test Jeff did above, using Windows 8.1 and latest verson of Firefox and does not work for me either. Ignores all line feeds/breaks after saving (when pasting content from Notepad into a Contact Note)
Nipuna,
I have been telling you guys about this browser problem since May and I keep getting "it works for us" answer. That is not expectable for any professional software companies. Especially after you sent me to your poor browser requirements page above. I meet your requirements, it does not work, and you tell me that I am wrong?
Mia, thanks for testing too.
Thank you Mia! I think we are talking two different things here. The issue I am referring was that we were not able to paste in Notes anything that we copied, when we were safari browser and that issue is fix. Line feeds/break issue is still in our bug database and we will address as soon as possible.
Thank you again for your patience!
I just tried to paste from Notepad latest Firefox in Windows 7 and had no issues with either right click > paste or with ctrl+v
For the people who are having issues, perhaps there is something conflicting on their machines. Firefox supports a lot of plugins. I wonder if the issues could be coming from there? Or security settings perhaps?
Hi Patrick, The test I ran on Cross Browser Testing was a base Firefox Installation with no plugins, virus protection, special security settings, etc. It is the closest thing you can get to being bare bones for very specific testing. With that said, I tested on my own Firfox back in May for this in Safe mode and every other mode and had the same issues noted throughout. I fully understand that some people are not having issues, but that does not mean that the people that are having issues should just deal with the problem. Insightly should step up. And, as said in a previous post here, this is a known bug.
As mentioned above by Nipuna B.... the issue is not that you cant paste anything into a note ( copy and then right click > paste or with ctrl+v works).... as per Jeff's video - it's that, on saving, all the formating including the very basic line feed/CR are all lost and it saves as one big long string.
I think you guys get it now. Please fix asap!
Nipuna B can you also please confirm you plan (At sometime) to address the issues (as per Brady above also) - when Importing notes, they lose all their formatting (ie. cant include a CHAR(10) or any other CR/LF character). For data conversion I have thousands of notes that all look like... very unattractive (putting it nicely) big long strings of words that should be split over separate lines.
It cant be that hard for the import code to recognise a specific string in the CSV (eg. CHAR(10) or /cr or /lf) and format accordingly. <B> and </B>, <I> and </I> would also be great!
Thank you Mia,I will update you as soon the fix is push to our testing environment. It is difficult to commit to any time line as our sprints are very agile.
Thank you for understanding!
Hi Jeff, Yeah, it's a javascript thing – try disabling js and you'll be able to paste – but then you'll have to re-enable it so you can save! Not really a solution, but maybe a dig in the Console would shed some light.
