Time tracking

why so many project management apps leave out this basic feature is beyond me. I personally dislike having to integrate a 3rd party application to simply log time for a task.

This is why i left basecamp. Granted i'm a free customer, but I will be first to sign up for a paid account if this feature becomes available.

  • 1. What application are you using today for time tracking? Timecamp, Toggl

    2. What needs would you require a time tracking application to fulfill?

    (stolen from above)

    • Apply time to different tasks within the same project, e.g. site building, admin, meeting, consultation, training, etc.
    • Add notes to each entry
    • Timed or hand-entered time option

Plus the ability to manage and enter time from a mobile app (such as w/ Toggle) would be icing on the cake, especially for consultants etc on the road a lot.

  • We are using Toggle. Would be awesome if you could add this functionality to Insightly

  • I am using Toggl.

I would like to be able to add time to different tasks within a project

I would like to hand enter time options

Plus I'd like to be able to link a task to an existing time entry in Toggl

  • I simply can't stress enough how important this is too us.

It would allow us to fully utilize insightly for both CRM and project management. Time tracking for the CRM portion is not important to us, but it's a requirement for the project management as it's the only way to allow us to determine if we are making a profit on a project or not.

We are currently using Active Collab and have enjoyed using it, the new upgrade to it has been very nice, but the idea of our CRM and Project Management being combined and having access to them through the Google Side Bar would simply blow all of the others out of the water!

Please, please, please, please, please, consider this!

Projects and task: to know how much time is invested developing a project is very important for us.

    Thanks!

  • Oh, man. This would be so great to have. Timecamp is a good solution on its own, but the fact that it is one-way isn't very helpful. It baffles me that a project management apps I've tested doesn't have such a simple feature. Tracking how much time spent on a project is so important.

Just curious, but is something that Insightly is at all considering? If so, I would jump on a paid plan.

  • I'm totaly agree with michael best.

He explain in few words The entire problem. The task is'nt a simple post it.

It is The most  important  part of The governance in The BPM Point of view.

So we wait for your effort.

Thank you very much from Italy

  • We have been using timecamp witth the integration and also added the in-browser buttons avilable as a plugin from timecamp. With this it´s possible to use buttons in insightly web app. But not the cell phone app. And the buttons are a bit cumbersome to reach and doesn´t go in to tasks. On top of that it´s not possible to mark the project or task billable or not in insightly. It´s not a complete disaster, but it´s not good. For those using excel, just move over as a temporary solution. You can get exports form there. Time tracking is not so very hard to develop, so I think this should be integrated to have better workflow and user experience. I think people expect it and project management is useless without it.

  • 1. Tracking time manually/not tracking so as not to add yet another app to integrate.

    2. The functionality of Toggl free would suit me fine.

  • Hi Amanda:

While a native Insightly time tracker is not on our immediate roadmap, it is something that we are still hoping to add.

For now, we do have the Timecamp integration and it looks like other users have had success using other services in their comments above.

We appreciate you taking the time to share what's important to you with our team :)

  • From Lyla's comment above, it sounds like Insightly has scrapped the time integration? That's really too bad. Like the OP, I'm looking for an all-inclusive CRM.

FWIW: I currently use Toggl and would love an integrated time tracker in Insightly, both for tasks purposes but also for relational mapping. It would be great to run a report on how much time is spent on a potential before it becomes a reality.

  • we've built a time tracking integration between Insightly, Google Sheets and QuickBooks Online; using a dynamic data pull from Insightly, users are given "pick lists" for Customers, Opportunities, Projects and Tasks, as available from within Insightly, which are then uploaded into QBO, allowing full circle integration between CRM, PM, time tracking, billing and accounting. Insightly, if you are interested, let's talk!

  • 1. we use Intervals as our task and time logging solution

    2. we have the option of a start/stop button in the task (you can also access it from the task list sceen), as well as the ability to manually enter time for either the task you are currently looking at, or you can select a general timer and enter the client and project info later.

This allows me to track timesheets for each of my resources, I am able to see the weekly timesheet report below a table of the number of hours they spent working each day, and this report specifies how much time was spent on which client/project/task for that day.

I am able to run indepth reports about how much time was spent by whom on a specific task/project/client for a specified period, as well as being able to see the what was done (there is a description box that is optional when you enter your time, so I can give my client more info)

I am able to set budget limits on projects, so I can specify that an development costs X per hour, and content management is Y per hour. Once my project has reached 80% of my budget it automatically emails me to notify me that we are reaching the limits of the allowed budget.

The task also notifies me if I have set 8 hours in which it needs to be completed, and my resource has exceeded that time.

  • What application are you using today for time tracking? Freshbooks & Zoho Projects

    2. What needs would you require a time tracking application to fulfill?

    • Apply time to different tasks within the same project that could auto-input by a timer, hand-input by the task owner
    • Add notes to each entry
    • Time should be able to be edited or disputed by Project Manager
    • And, ideally, since you don't have integration for Freshbooks (or numerous other options), it would be nice to have a export of the time report to use in other applications for billing such as Freshbooks

  • Hi Lyla,  looking at this thread, Brenda said back in June 2015 that the development team were looking at it.  Now you are saying you're still in the planning stages.  At this rate, are you looking to launch something mid-2020? ;-)  It would be useful if you could provide a target launch date for time tracking.

  • Hi Nick:

This is on our road map as Brenda mentioned in June :) And while we really want to bring this feature to you as soon as possible, the resources have not been available due to existing projects and features already in development. This is still being planned and the Community will be the first to know when something changes!

  • Hi,

I just tried Insightly but we really need this time tracking option, when do you plan to have it?

If you plan to have it at the end of the year, I would prefer to know it now.

    Thanks,

    Jean

  • Hi Jean:

Our resources and priorities can shift quickly so we are reluctant to publish a road map with specific release dates. Thank you being part of the Community and sharing your support for this as a feature.

Disclaimer: Any unreleased Insightly features referenced here are not currently available and may not be delivered on time or at all. Please make your purchase decisions based upon features that are currently available.

  • for those interested, i have built a simple integration between Insightly, Google Sheets and Quickbooks Online, allowing time entry on a per person basis, tied back to Insightly customers, opportunities, project, and tasks, and forward loaded into QBO for billing and financial management. If interested, let me know at ajohnson@writewellmediallc.com.

  • 1. What application are you using today for time tracking? Timecamp

    2. What needs would you require a time tracking application to fulfill?  basic time tracking would be helpful, but timecamp does a good job with that.  Why track time?  Because I use it to keep track of the project budget.  I do that on a spreadsheet now.  It would be great if a project budget tab could be added to the Projects section.  The Opportunity Value typically becomes the Project Budget.  People who work on tasks enter their hours spent and hourly rate.  Project fixed costs like consultants get entered as a line item against the budget.  When my project is 25% complete and the budget is 90% gone, I know I have a big problem!  Or, the more positive scenario, when the project is 90% complete and the budget is only 25% gone, it's time to start thinking about champagne to buy!  Budget tracking (or time tracking) is major project management function that currently happens completely outside of the project management tool provided by Insightly.  Integration would be a great improvement, but simple time tracking would only solve half of the problem for me.

  • I have used Toggl and now am using BigTime for time tracking because of its integration with QuickBooks.  We are migrating off of Timeslips, which we have used for time tracking, billing and accounting for many years.  Our situation has changed and we have a Mac/PC environment which doesn't allow for easy time entry and tracking with Timeslips.  Ideally, everything would be "in the cloud".  We have used Insightly for years and love it.  If you could get the time tracking, billing and invoicing sides put together, you'd have a magnificent all around product.  So.. my answers to the August 19, 2015 question are:

    1. What application are you using today for time tracking? Big Time

    2. What needs would you require a time tracking application to fulfill?

    • Apply time to different tasks within the same project, e.g. website building, graphic design, admin, meeting, consultation, training, etc.
    • Add notes to each entry
    • Time entry with start, stop timer - multiple timers running would be awesome
    • Ideally, export/copy "invoice" or time report into Quickbooks Online

Any ideas on when this might actually go into development?  We are now in March, 2016.

  • I also would like to vote for Toggl.

I would love to see Toggl entries become notes in Insightly.

I would also like to see Insightly create clients and projects that it sees in my Toggl account. It would be nice to have some easy way to deal with "dups" (Eg. the project exists in both tools but due to a slightly different name, there are now 2 projects in Insightly instead of just one).
