Web to Lead Forms - Custom Fields, Please!

Right now, we're having to use Typeform for all of our applicants.  This means exporting from Typeform, reformatting, then importing to Insightly.  It would be awesome if there were custom fields we could create for our Web to Lead forms so that leads just pop right into insightly.  Also, if there's a way to integrate with Typeform, let me know!  I'd love to do it.

  • So, we're trying to work in the Zapier integration and while it does create a new opportunity each time a typeform is submitted, it maps all of the information into the "description."

Is there a way to map the information to the correct fields?  It's actually less useful to have it map to the description as we need to be able to sort and analyze by responses.

If anyone out there has the key on how to make the Zapier integration work, that'd be amazing.

  • I was able to successfully submit custom fields using the Insightly API which works great. This appears to be the only viable solution at this point to map custom fields from a web form into Insightly.

Unfortunately this means that if custom fields in a web form are a make or break feature for you (I can't imagine who would not have those requirements) you'll probably either need to hire a web developer to build it out or find another CRM.

I'm sure Insightly will announce this feature soon...

  • Hey John,

Thanks for the heads up!  We have a pretty robust dev team (I'm obviously not part of that, if you couldn't tell...) - did you use the API to map to a custom form hosted on your webpage, typeform, some other place?

  • I used the Insightly PHP wrapper (https://github.com/Insightly/insightly-php/blob/master/insightly.php) and a pure web-to-lead style html form (no CMS or form builder).

I started elaborating more, but realized I was getting too technical! Your dev team shouldn't have any issues implementing it for your situation.

  • Wanted to mention that Zapier just added an "Add Lead" action with fields mappable to the appropriate lead field - including any CSV tags your source may provide. https://zapier.com/help/insightly/

I sent a note to Zapier support with the request maybe 3 weeks ago, and last week they let me know they had added it (and likely trivial since they already supported adding a Contact). If you haven't looked at actions lately, give this a whirl, it's working great for me.

  • Forrest,

Thanks for the heads up - we found it just before you posted!  I've got it set up but am running into issues where all the custom field information shows up at the test, but once I run the test it only imports Insightly fields (name, postal code, etc.).

    Any suggestions?

  • @Brian

    WP+GoogleForms->G-Sheet->ZAP on insert->Insightly Lead

Testing w/real data pushes all of the mapped information to where I'd anticipate all the way to Insightly Leads. I'm also passing CSV tags (nice!) which show up in Insightly as well. Looks golden here.

    Any troubles mapping fields?

  • Ah - there's the issue.  You guys are running WP and we're using Typeform.  Here's what I got back from Zapier:

"Unfortunately, right now in Insightly, custom fields have issues - only Text, Date, and Dropdown custom fields work. New custom fields like Multiline text, URL, and Numeric won't work. We've investigated this issue and found that there is a problem with the current version of the Insightly API that doesn't allow these custom fields to come though. Insightly released the new API recently to fix this, but it looks like it's only in beta right now, and they don't recommend it for production use. We'll need to prioritize and schedule the development and testing alongside all the other APIs that need attention in the short and medium term so that means that a fix isn't likely for a few months."

So, stuck in manual mode as we don't want to go back to WP.  Thanks for the help, though!  Hopefully something will come through soon...

  • I realize we can also change the form, but that degrades the UX for applicants.

  • I'd like to see this functionality as well. I can't even get custom inputs to show up in the description field.

  • And one for me too please.  It really is a deal breaker.  And FYI insightly, if you are not taking notice of people on free accounts requesting this then you misunderstand that we WOULD pay for a subscription once we know we can get the features we need - and this one of them!

  • An obvious need for everyone I suppose...

  • How can I add a text box (rathern than just one row input) so that the lead can freely write a message to my company along with the other information?

  • +1 on this feature. It's essential to us using Web-to-Lead and thus growing with Insightly.

  • Have you guys checked out Zapier? Zapier is a program that integrates with Insightly as well as other programs like Typeform or Wufoo. Wufoo is a form builder that will build a form for you that you can embed in your website. Zapier will then take a trigger, a new entry in Wufoo or Typeform, and "zap" that information to Insightly and create a lead, contact, task, opportunity, or project. You have to build your template but it is really easy to do.

    Hope this helps!

  • Also need this functionality, so surprised it isn't supported already. We'll have to stick with our current online form and enter information into insightly manually until this is available.

  • Thank you for your suggestions. At this time we don't have this on our immediate roadmap; but we are keeping an eye on your feedback for this feature.

  • Yip, definitely need this to be added now that we're re-doing our website and realising it would be great if we could include our custom fields!!!

  • This is again a really needed feature for Insightly.  Competitors have it.

  • +1!

Not being able to add custom fields is quite a compromise for web contacts.

    Other CRMs can do this.

  • Just an update on this feature - we've completed the design and engineering development work on it, and it is currently in our quality assurance and testing process for vetting - so it should be shipping out to all our customers in the very near future. We will let you know once it has been released.

  • So what if we can add custom fields and map them? We had to turn off our web form altogether because of the lack of a CAPTCHA or spam-filtering function.

I was getting 25 bogus contacts created every day. SO BASIC. Such an oversight.

  • AND CAPTCHA -- we can't even use the form feature because of the spam.
