Task Comments easily get lost

When I make a phone call I like to add any notes in the task comments. There seems to be a design flaw because if you don't click the button then it doesn't warn you your data is going to be lost. To make matters worse, that button is below the fold so it's really easy to forget and lose your notes.

This seems like a pretty major flaw.

Is there a better way that protects against losing unsaved data?

  • Hi Tim,

Thanks for the feedback. I know how frustrating it is to lose notes you've just typed! Can you tell us if the "Add Comment button" is still below the fold when your viewing your browser window in full size?

  • Actually, the button only goes below the fold when you start typing. The more you type the further the button goes down.

Ideally, I'd really like to see a warning when you try and navigate away from unsaved data. Hope that's possible soon

  • I see. Thanks for clarifying. I'll bring this up with our new UX designer. Thanks, Tim.

  • I am just having another look at this issue again this morning.

Please can you tell me, is it possible to turn on auto-save in Insightly somewhere? For example in google docs, you never have to hit save, it just saves as you go. I think this is a pretty crucial feature of any online data storing system.

Even if the add comment button was moved so it could always be seen, its just not going to work for me. If I accidentally navigate away without saving - I lose important info and that's just not acceptable for my work.

I hope there is a way to do this.

  • I'm afraid we don't offer auto-save anywhere. I'm not sure if this would affect how we keep track of your record count but you could always submit this as a Product Request so other customers can comment and vote.

  • Hi Tim,

I just wanted to circle back about the Add Comment button. Can you please tell us what browser version you're using? If this is a bug and not design related we'll want to add it to our list. In the meantime, our QA engineer suggests using Chrome. On Chrome, that field has a scroll bar which allows the button to remain above the fold. Thanks!

  • Another request for an auto-save or warning before navigating away. I just (again) lost all my notes from a phone call with a client after accidentally navigating away. This is one of the most frustrating shortcomings of Insightly. I know insightly did some update on this last year...? But it doesn't apply to making edits on a note, or to adding a comment on a note or task.

As Tim Brennan mentioned, it seems an auto-save OR a warning pop-up is "a pretty crucial feature of any online data storing system."

  • So sorry to hear that michele.

This has not made it to our product road map at this time. Please add your vote at the top to add your support, if you haven't already.

  • Hi,

I am having this same issue.  So tired of losing detailed notes.

I'm sorry, but how do you vote for this?  Using the "Submit A Request" button at the top of this page?

  • P.S.  I am using Chrome, and do not see a button anywhere for saving my Task Comments.  Argh!

  • Hi Valerie,

In order to save your Comment you will need to click on Add Comment

  • Yet another request for an auto-save or warning before navigating away. Very important! Thanks!

  • So I am typing away on my notes and need to toggle to the calendar to check my schedule and the note disappears.  Seriously, do I really need to vote for this?  This should be considered a bug fix, not an enhancement request.  Thank goodness google, microsoft (exel, word ppt), salesforce, et all understand they are part of my desktop not the sole focus and sometimes I need to navigate to another window.  Please fix this bug.

  • Hello Metcomm and Dane,

Thanks for the great feedback regarding this request!

If you have the time the best place to provide feedback or request a feature is on our Ideas & Suggestions page. Your fellow Insightly users can vote and comment on the idea, too. In general, the more activity a request receives, the more likely it is to be considered for implementation.

We are always looking for ways to improve the Insightly experience for our customers!
