Date Format Options

I'd love to see Insightly offer date format options at the User Settings Level, in Australia (and Im sure other parts of the world) we use dd/mm/yyyy format however noticed when I imported clients (and related dates of birth) it has posted these dates all incorrectly as it tried to apply mm/dd/yyyy format to the field.

  • Thanks for the response. Creating a custom field just increases the possibility of the wrong date being entered.

Obviously there are no plans to include the much requested date feature for your users outside the US, kindly pass this on to your developers/managers and we will look elsewhere for a more suitable product

  • Hi rodb:

This has not found it's place on our current road map. We’re continuously evaluating the features we offer and there’s some great stuff in the works. Even if you don't hear from the us directly the votes and comments are seen by different areas of the company.

  • here we are again.

why use crm? to manage day-to-day, and to get management reports.

all of which really revolve simply around dates and values.

still can't use dates easily. been requested by many, for months. users having to submit rough workarounds.

if insightly is a community project rather than a commercial offering then why are you charging for it.

been holding off adding the other 104 new users because dates don't work properly. not adding them now.

    agree with robd.

custom dates btw are even worse than the set fields, because they don't output in the same way, so the import/convert workaround doesn't work on them. ridiculous.

have accepted the pointless fail on simply allowing me to select columns to list on a view. can't accept simple dates not working reliably, certainly cannot load the main pipeline of my business as the single dept pipeline has to be run through line by line every week just to get sensible reporting.

also getting fairly bored of the super friendly but no content support answers, followed occasionally by a technical answer that is incomplete and fairly tersely phrased.

would have been very interested to know why insightly management don't see resolving the dates issue as a priority?

now? have given up. thanks for making my life hard.

  • We do get a lot of requests feature updates which are prioritized based on certain criteria, such as alignment with our product strategy and product roadmap, cost and time needed to develop the feature, to name a few.

Our goal here is to provide transparency and open communication with our users. At this time this has not found it's place to be added or changed.

We'll let you know if something changes.

  • I've recently re-submitted my request. It's irritating that there are about 8 separate strings about this same issue and still about a year later there is no progress. What's more irritating is that I went through the steps about 6 months ago to create custom fields which were exporting like a dream. I have been busy and gotten behind in my reporting on opportunities and Insightly's standard dates are not only messed up and sloppy, but now my previously-beautiful-customised date fields are JUST AS BAD! Switching between regular dates, dates with a normal time stamp (00:00:00), dates with a completely ficticious time stamp that excel and other programmes can't recognise (12:00:00AM or 12h00m00s!). I now am going to make a new field that is text only so you can't mess it up. Not only have you marked my request through support as solved, but I get little email digests from lots of people, nearly weekly and nothing changes. As I said when I resubmitted my issue, I cannot wait until I have the time to find a new system and I will be sure to let everyone here know. Your community is far more helpful than your team members or your sloppy developers. Really really really really really disappointing. Also this whole voting thing, maybe because I'm not a normal forum troll? but it's so unclear and MAYBE the reason that it doesn't have enough 'votes' yet is because you make it too difficult to up a vote! If only I had known, insightly would have been a non-starter for me for several reasons. It just seems like lots of little details are ignored and you've got your eyes too far ahead of yourselves that you miss a lot of important details.

  • So sorry you feel this way Jane, especially about our team. This is not a request that has found a place our road map right now.

  • Very simply. You cannot claim to be supplying an international product if you do not offer different date formats as standard. I simply do not understand how it is so difficult to ensure that, at the very least, system wide date formats cannot be set.

The UK, as well as many other regions, use DD/MM/YYYY.

Maybe its just "Made in California" arrogance to assume that the rest of the world will adopt and comply with YOUR date format regardless of the potential major errors this can generate.

Please prioritize this, its not just critical it borders on incompetent.

  • Hello for all,

So, i am having trouble with format data with a custom field. I've created a field to insert follow up date in opportunities.

So, the filter and custom reports are not understading the date format.

  • Added my vote and this comment, to say that having date format options is very important.

  • This is ridiculous! If Insightly was aimed at US only clients, then by all means use your US date convention, but the rest of the world does not use your date convention and this is creating a lot of unhappiness. The reporting is almost useless unless you export and fix the date. And then the formatting of the reports (although dismal as is) are completely lost once exported.

"Not found a place on our road map right now", that isn't very nice on a topic that obviously causes a lot of angst for your clients.

  • Just to add my voice to this: it can't be that much of a big deal, I am sure you store your dates sensibly in SSE/unix timestamp - converting dates is a solved problem in all major platforms. Get it done, please: as others have said, you limit your market in the rest of the world, it literally is ONLY the US uses that crazy, unsortable format.

  • This is a "me too"... hoping to keep pressure on your management. Supporting date localization should has been part of your initial effort to offer a language localized product... Having to discuss this now is quite worrisome.

  • Is there any update to when the DD-MM-YY is going to be implemented? It seems people have been requesting this for years but yet nothing has changed...  Could someone  please explain why this hasn't happened? As mentioned by others its business critical for virtually all businesses outside of the US.

  • I'm also astounded that a CRM, that promotes itself strongly internationally, does not have the ability to change the date format so the majority of the world (i.e., outside USA) has the ability to view dates effectively.

This really needs to be sorted. It's such a terrible customer experience, and if someone was asking me whether or not I would recommend Insightly, this would be the one reason I would say to choose something else because of how ridiculous the date situation is.

  • We are currently testing Insightly as a trial. Without support for importing/exporting international date formats we would not consider using Insightly as we are based in Australia. It is very disappointing to see this request has been voted and requested for more than a year without any action being taken.

Not a good look for a new customer considering using Insightly.

  • Hello, I just wanted to create this post, but as expected, it already exists: for obvious reasons.

We are also having a hard time with date and times formats, which are quite irritating to handle, when used to the international format (we are based in Europe and active around the world).

For me it is just incomprehensible, that a 'global' platform as Insightly does not allow changing the format representation of date and time.

I really would like to see the 24h- and yyyy/mm/dd (or dd/mm/yyyy)-formats as soon as possible, to avoid further confusion using Insightly.

    Cheers

  • Hi,

I just want to give Patrick Ribeiro my thumbs up. I am with him 100%. The possibility to configure 24h and yyyy/mm/dd (or as we use it in Sweden yyyy-MM-dd) is definitely a "global need" :-)

If I get these 2 into Insightly, then I would be a very Happy Camper for a long time

    Regards

  • Hi,

I agree on all the above - it's also causing me problems with Zapier as I can't change the date format in Insightly for the zap to work!

  • Is there any updates to this?

We've just joined insightly and this seems like a serious Oversight. My staff are already complaining about this issue.
Has the potentially to cause some serious, and costly, mistakes

  • Just to announce, that my team is already preparing to leave Insightly again.

Although the software pleased us in some points, there are essential small details, which make it difficult to let work flow as it should. The calendar issue is one argument, since it gets us constantly in trouble, due to misinterpretation of dates.

The static why tasks and the calendar works, is another point, but it does not need to be reported in this thread.

    Cheers

  • I just encountered this issue having created a report. It is painful to have to remember that the dates on the report are not day/month/year but month/day/year. This really is quite an elementary setting. There are other settings such as currency format or timezone but I was amazed that there was not a setting for date format.

  • Hey....am an American working in UK and we just rolled out Insightly ( after getting rid of a crap CRM...ACT ). Proposed Insightly as it appeared to be a really cool and well developed CRM. Convinced my Managing Director to invest in Insightly.

ONLY to just discover that Insightly appears to have NO CLUE as to how to make their product support international date formats. DUH. Would have thought this was a 'given'.

Insightly, you have to stop making excuses and get this hot fixed!!!!

I can't see how you can have a CRM which doesn't manage date formats! Baffled as to what i'm meant to do...

  • Hello,

Exploring for a few days Insightly and stumbled on the date issue... Surprised that it isn't fixed yet as this thread started 2 years ago!

    Any progress, Insightly?

  • I started this post over 2 years ago, I have been more than patient but will definitely not be renewing my subscription nor encouraging anyone else to signup with Insightly.

The fact that such as basic change (and I'd argue important change for any system wanting to be considering truly global) has not eventuated in all this time, shows it is either not a priority or just too hard - either answer is difficult to comprehend. Very disappointed.

  • Thumbs up, upvote, please add.  How is this not a priority?  Please provide some Insightly information about what you are thinking versus letting the community be up in arms.  Will you be resolving this issue or not?
