Removing Unsubscribes from Mailchimp on Insightly

Hi all

I have unsubscribes from mailchimp and want to sync that with insightly of course.

Whats the best way of doing that ? (I cant import from mailchimp - as that doesnt remove the names from insightly, but merely adds the new subscribers)

Im sure it must be easy - but cant find it anywhere.

Many thanks

  • Great post here. I would also like to know how to keep this in sync as well.

  • Hi All!I believe you're saying you unsubscribed from MailChimp and wish to have those contacts that were added to MailChimp updated within Insightly, is this correct? If so you would need to manually remove the contacts.

We don't have a sync with MailChimp but an integration; unfortunately our integration with Mailchimp is very basic at this time. Insightly will only send the name and email address of your contact records to Mailchimp so you can send outbound emails from Mailchimp. There isn't a way to record the responses you receive from the Mailchimp mailings. Any responses will need to be managed manually.

Here's a link to our Knowledge Base article explaining the MailChimp integration:

  • Hi Nora,

Is this still the case? Is there a work around by exporting to excel and then mapping updated data to the relevant insightly contact / lead?  I am working with large numbers of contacts / leads and would like to avoid updating each manually if possible.

  • Hi @Philip:

This is still the case since there is duplicate detection when importing data into Insightly so you can not update your Insightly data via import.

  • Insightly needs to do actual data sync with MailChimp (who doesn't need to do emails?) and a better sync with Google Contacts (who wants a contact and not want to know the name of their organization?).

I am relatively new to Insightly. Everything is a discovery, and for a business with so many subscribers I am disappointed to see how Insightly doesn't seem to want to be the center of business processes. If it was the indispensable product that connected with the other products that a business used, then you become wedded to the product. Judging by the comments from this community, I am not alone.

Anyone can send emails, but we use MailChimp to manage all of the stuff around the emails: subscribe, unsubscribe, bounces, tracking etc. If a customer has left an organization we want to know and to have to get this information back to Insightly. After all, isn't the "R" in CRM for Relationship?

Please provide a timeline for MailChimp and insightly true data sync.

  • Great post, Daniel!
And it's really inconvenient that "integration with Mailchimp is very basic"

  • Hi, I just thought I'd chime in and say that this basic Mailchimp integration is what is holding me back from subscribing with you guys. If you can create a sync system with Mailchimp then I'm sure you will get a lot more interest in your CRM.

  • Hi, any updates on a better sync with MailChimp? I want Insightly to add or update the data from MailChimp to an existing lead or contact and not just skip this lead or contact because it's a duplicate.

Sometimes you meet someone, put them in Insightly and later on they join your mailing list in MailChimp. Currently Insightly won't import the data from MailChimp to this lead because it was in Insightly before it was in MailChimp.

  • Hi there M.H.:

There have been changes to the Mailchimp integration and you can update the data in MailChimp member information when bringing it in from Insightly. All the newly added features are outline in this Product Update.

  • The changes don't seem to address the issue:

Is there a way (other than manually) to not on an Insightly record when an unsubscribe has been requested through Mail Chimp? I have custom subscription status field in Insightly, I just don't want to have to make the changes manually. That seems to be a very basic integration feature.

  • Hi Jennifer:

This would need to be done manually. If this is something you'd like to see added to the integration we encourage you to add your idea to the Ideas area so other users can vote on this too.

  • Still not change, this is very basic, you can update contact when importing but you must use id number which cannot be exported to mailchimp, why not check with email.  this would fix it if you were interested in doing so.  To manually remove unsubscribes and bounces is rediculous.  I really need to find a new CRM that understands how a CRM is used.

  • Experiencing the same issue and would like to have an update on if this feature would be available or if any integration software addresses this.

  • Found a way to update Insightly pretty quickly using excel. You need to add the Insightly RecordID to the mailchimp bounce and unsubscribe lists prior to importing as a update.   I export the Insightly records that I wish to send a email, to excel.  This is imported into mail chimp.  I started with the mailchimp bounce file.  You need to add the Recordid from insightly to  the bounce excel file.  I added a field RecordId to the mailchimp bounnce file and then used VLOOKUP to fill in the value from my exported Insightly that contains the Recordid.  You can do this with side by side spreadsheets.

Look on youtube for some good guidance video on this.
