Wrong social media link

I create a contact file and insightly created links but to the wrong person. I tried to erase it but did not succeed. How can erase it and also prevent unsightly to create wrong social media links.

  • flemelin,

I went through the same thing. I add my personal email as a contact in Insightly and it brought up a completely incorrect Linkedin profile link within the contact. The Linkedin profile had nothing to do with my contact, and I really had no idea how it showed up there.

I put in a tech request with Insightly (in early April, 2015) and they said that they don't really have control of what shows up on the right side. They use a third party software (FullContact) that gathers those social links / profiles like that which automatically populates the contact record. They said that they can not remove the bad link as well. The last thing was that they would reach out to FullContact to see what happened and let me know, but that never happened.

As of today, Insightly never followed up within my ticket about the contact. I just checked today and the bad link is there still... so nothing has happened. I will reply yo my ticket with them asking for an update.

To answer your specific question of "How can erase it and also prevent unsightly to create wrong social media links.", you can't. You can not prevent it or delete it. Kinda dumb.

I considered turning this feature off completely since I no longer trust the data. But for someone new, it may help me find contacts / profiles that I did not know about and which may provide new ways to market to them. Because of this it is still on.

I will reply back to my ticket now and see if they have any updates.

  • This is an issue we're aware of and apologize for. At this time a workaround is to manually add an address in LinkedIn/Twitter field, this will help stop pulling incorrect profiles. I would suggest adding this as a Product Feedback/Request as well since I have heard this from other users.

  • Nora,

Once we have defined the bad social URL we need to be able to delete it. Has there been any answer as to how to do this yet? It's been 3 months.

  • Hi Jeff,

We  understand it has been almost 3 months, we are working very closely with (Full Contact) and our developers are also looking at different options that will help resolve this issue. I will update you as soon as we have solution.

Thank you for understanding and your patience,

    Nipuna

  • This is still an issue. The needs to be a way to remove a bad social media link. I have contacts with pictures and linked in profiles showing for completely different people from different organisations. This could potentially cause much confusion. Adding a blank or alternative social media profile does not delete or remove the wrong one or update the picture.

This is a really badly implemented feature. I understand the benefit when it's correct but you can't only rely on automatic classification, it's just not 100% accurate, never will be so you have to have a manual alternative.

To not have this resolved in so long (I raised a ticket on this maybe a year ago) is quite frankly putting me off fully implementing the solution in our business.

  • It's been almost four months since the last comment on this issue and it appears that it is not yet resolved. May we have an update please?

If the feature is not going to be accurate 100% of the time, it has no value.

  • @Lance - We have been discussing things with FullContact and as it stands we don't have a fix for this issue.

Your feedback is appreciated and as we know more, we will update.

    Thank you!

  • So I started using Insightly this week and quickly encountered this issue. I came across this page when I went looking for a solution.

I am absolutely amazed at the responses from three separate Insightly team members. I would have thought ensuring the accuracy of your CRM details was priority number one. So if the functionality doesn't work and can cause confusion for your clients, why hasn't this either been fixed or removed?

We are still trialling Insightly and this bug alone is enough to have us start looking at alternative CRM products.

  • I agree with all the frustrated comments above. This is a real nuisance, and it has happened for a large number of my contacts. The wrong link is there, the wrong picture shows, and I cannot change it. I find this an appalling situation. How can it possibly take over six months to fix this? Our inability to delete incorrect social media links cannot be that difficult to correct!

  • Hi Everyone:

We would also love for this to work accurately. As mentioned by my colleagues we are working with FullContact on a resolution.

Since this does work for many of our users we don't want to remove the functionality completely as the information is useful.

Thank you for letting us know how important seeing social media links is for your daily workflow.

  • I have the same problem, I have tried the fix as suggested be Nora D, but this hasn't worked. This is becoming a major issue as my own account is linked to someone else's linkedin account. I have now found out that some of my e-mail recipients are seeing a photo of someone else appear when I send out e-mails.

Is there a more suitable fix available?

  • Hi matthew.shepherd:

When sending emails through Insightly, the profile photo is not included. Can you send us a screenshot of what the recipient sees?

There is also the option of updating the profile photo manually.

  • I need to be able to delete the wrong link as well... Adding another link just creates confusion by adding a second linkedin button

  • Hi Christopher,

There isn't a way to delete the link. You can remove the record's email address to have the link removed or you can go to System Settings > Social Profiles > uncheck the option for Enable Automatic Social Profiles.Disabling this option will disable the display of all social profile information on contact records.

  • Amazed as I read through this thread. I just signed up with Insightly yesterday, and I'm already encountering this really annoying problem. This needs to be dealt with.

  • Hi Rich, we know this can be annoying if you rely heavily on social media. We have other big improvements in the queue right now but are seeing each of the comments and votes that come in. Thanks!

  • Tackle this problem in levels, perhaps?

    Start with user empowerment.

When we find a bad social media cross reference, we should be able to delete it in the single record and perhaps additionally mark a reason for deletion. As reasons start with "Error" and a fill in the blank "Other".

There will always be errors, no matter who the subcontract for social media matching may be.

You'll be doing your subcontract, your users and yourself a favour by allowing the deletions and recording the reasons why.

Then you can work on big solutions and feature improvement.

It is a benefit to have social media references "suggested" or presented as "likely". Set the user's expectation for what they are seeing listed. So sort the links presentation into "Likely" and "Verified," with "Verified" being an entry made within the organization.

I guess at the next level you could compare "Verified" with "Likely" links to make a decision in software about whether to remove an entry from the Likely list. But that should be done based on only very strong matches. And so on.

I don't think you necessarily need a comprehensive solution to improve the situation, in preparation for a development path.

  • Just had this same issue that everyone is describing, Surely having an option to delete incorrect social media links cannot be that hard of a fix. Adding in the correct one adds confusions as now we have two links for the person and it still shows the wrong image, this pulls all the way through to our email since we integrate with Google Apps. Not cool.

  • I've also had this issue.

It is particularly frustrating as the linked-in profiles appear to be based on the name of the user only. Not at all linked to the email address or even the work of the contact. For certain names too, it even links to a linked in profile of the incorrect gender! It is clearly not a functional field.

  • I just signed up with Insightly a few days ago and immediately encountered this extremely basic but annoying problem when setting up my users. I don't understand why we cannot simply delete the incorrect social media profile link. That should be simple to implement !! In reality, once the auto search results are returned, the user should have the option of validating/accepting the profile link of replacing it with a new one. Another idea is for Insightly to allow for a user specified default value, so that users would have the option of selecting the default value if the link is incorrect.

For now I have disabled the auto search for social media, but that's very discouraging that it has taken sooo long and Insightly has not done anything about this bug.

  • This is a problem for me, too. Recently, it seems that the situation has become worse -- especially when dealing with contacts that have fairly common names in the US. I would like to at least be able to delete the incorrect social links. It's a real mess.

  • This issue was reported over a year and a half ago and the last feedback from an Insightly team member was over five months ago. Other than suggested work-arounds, all we've heard is that Insightly is working with FullContact on a resolution and that was nearly ten months ago. Has there been ANY progress on resolving this annoying issue or should we users just resign ourselves to the fact that is never going to be fixed?

  • Hi everyone:

I'm afraid we don't have a solution yet. Different options are being explored as we take note of all your comments and ideas.

At this time please rely on the workaround of manually adding the LinkedIn or Twitter information to your records.

  • One problem, Lyla, as I understand it, is that if I disable the automatic social links, then any that have ALREADY been added into the system will just disappear "poof!" and will have to be added back in manually. So, going forward with the "manual" option seems to wipe out all the history - the majority of which may be correct. :-(

  • Hi Karen:

Apologies for any confusion, the workaround to add link manually can be done in addition to the automatically added information. This is  a way of displaying the correct data on those where the auto filled data is incorrect. When you do this this you will see 2 options for LinkedIn,the lower case L is automated from the email address and the uppercase L is from the manually entered URL.

  • Hi Lyla

    That doesnt work for me.

I have a contact where we have done this and it does show the two LinkedIn profiles, one with an upper and one with a lower case L as per your reply.

But it is still showing the profile pic for the wrong LinkedIn profile, which in Insightly, is the profile with the lower case l.

  • Hi Gary:

The profile picture can be changed on any record at any time, the steps are available here.

  • It has been 3 years since this thread began.  I'm a new user and encountered this issue and ran across this support thread.  Even though I didn't add any social media fields when I programmatically created the contact through the API, I'm getting the wrong pic and links for the user.
