  • I have some observations / ideas you may be interested in regarding lead to a work around for Duplicating Opportunities...

After a bit of playing around I found:

LEADS do have -> Actions: Copy Details to New Lead

And if you have all you fields and custom fields populated on a palceholder/template Lead, and the Opportunity custom fields are named exactly the same, and with the same field types and same valid values in drop downs... then you can (to kind of Duplicate an Opportunity):

    1. Copy a template Lead (with many pre filled values inc custom fields - maybe one for each of your products) to a new Lead (so the template remains for next time)

    2. Convert the Lead to an Opportunity and it will copy accross all the matching fields into the new Opportunity.

ie.... set up persistent template LEADs with all your variations of field + custom fields values (corresponsing to your products for example) that are there for the purpose of copying to new Leads (and if you like converting to new Opportunities with many of the Opportunity fields then populated).

However - When you convert the Lead to an Opportunity, you do get a duplicate Contact created..... even if the Lead has all the same values for First Name, Last Name, email etc.

  • just now needs enhancing to have some intelligent Contact duplicate checking when converting a lead to an Opp... not just assume its for a new (rather than existing contact).

I need this and the ability to clone or copy PROJECTS and OPPORTUNITIES.  Frankly... Duplicate ANYTHING. What is a Project MANAGEMENT tool if it takes me more time to manage it than the project itself?  Former user of Podio, Zoho and Basecamp.  And right now, Insightly is taking me more time and has the potential to cost me more money without these features.

  • Shifternatio, I am finding that with issues like this, Insightly is not really a great project management tool.

  • Yes!  We plan to have "golden data" and simply copying it down from one template to a new contact would be ideal.

The BACKGROUND field in the contact is searchable.  Therefore, if we have 9 fields pre-populated in the Background text box, simply filling in the contact-specific data will make the error likelihood go way down.

PLEASE do update to include the ability to COPY CONTACT!

    Cheers to all. A>

  • Setting up a project for over 3,000 clients every tax year is a huge task. If we could simply click a duplicate task for each client once the previous tax year is done would be a gigantic time saver.

  • Has this feature been included already? How can I duplicate an opportunity?

  • Hi Aline:

This feature has not been added, please add your vote by clicking the heart if you haven't already to show your support for this request.

  • Still not implemented? This is the most frustrating and time consuming missing feature on Insightly. :/

  • This needs to be implemented.  How does the insightly sales staff survive without this?  In my organization, and every organization previous, this was a standard MO - create a sales opportunity, break it up into phases, and then close each sequentially (optimistically).  How does your sales team handle annual renewals or even upgrade opportunities?

  • Are there any workarounds for this, such as importing Projects and Opportunities using a CSV file? The lack of a Duplicate feature could be a deal breaker.

  • Matthew,

One work-a-round that I use is export and import.  I exported a sample Project and a Task.  I used these exports as a template to get the header titles from Insightly into Excel.  I then populated the data that I need and save the spreadsheet as a .CSV file and imported it into Insightly.  I was able to create multiple projects and add as many tasks to each project as I wanted, with in the limitations of my account.

While it requires two separate imports, one to create the project and one for the tasks for the project, I was able to add multiple tasks to each project.

In an earlier post, Bobby Sambrosky commented that he has to create 3000 client tasks for each tax year (if I'm understanding correctly); this should allow him to import a task for each client per each project tax year.

I will clean up my document of the steps to do all of this, add screen shots, and get them posted to Insightly helps.  I'll post a link to the document in this thread once I have it done.  I will try to get it completed by Saturday, June 25, 2016.

    Hope this helps.

  • Bob, that's great that you found a work around but I think everyone can agree that it should just be an option.

I'm curious what other options Insightly is working on ahead of this function?

Lyla, is there a list I can look at and vote on? It might be possible that this function is not getting enough votes because people don't use Insightly because it doesn't have the duplication option or they can't vote enough because they are too busy duplicating tasks, projects, and opportunities.

  • I tried the "import and export" workaround with opportunities.  It didn't work for me.  When importing opportunities from a CSV file, I learned that Insightly purposely throws out any records that have a duplicate opportunity name.  This is the whole reason I need to be able to duplicate opportunities.  I need the same opportunity, with the exact same name, to exist multiple times in the system, once per month.

Hopefully Insightly will allow easy duplication of opportunities when it implements the "Copy an entire entry" suggestion.  That one is marked as "planned".

  • This is a definite need for me.

Here is how I could see this accomplished by Insightly if I was the Insightly programmer. The user would mark a current opportunity as "Potentially Recurring" opportunity.  After which we would be asked frequency of recurrence (monthly, quarterly, annual, etc)

These opportunities could viewable in a separate list "Potentially recurring opportunities".  The user the then selects which ones they would like to make into a new opportunity and modifies the opportunity name to be unique.

Hopefully something will be done like this by Insightly.
