Convert Contacts to Leads

I love the new leads management feature, however its missing something important. You can only import new leads or create them manually. What about all our pre-existing contacts that we and I am sure many others were treating as prospects/'leads' in Insightly? Can they not be converted into leads? It would be extremely useful if one could add existing contacts to their leads management tab. And going one further, for managing purposes, it would be valuable if one could group/designate leads into various campaigns or categories.

  • A quick update - we shipped a version of this feature recently that allows you to change a contact into a lead from under the actions menu on a contact.

  • I am new to Insightly, however working and setting up CRM systems for more than 20 years.

    I can follow Anthony, it is a choice how to organise the sales funnel, however I have 1 problem with this, converting Lead into Contact (and to Opportunity) is that I loose Tags and Custom Fields. 

    Tags, I can come over with probably, however could be an option for the user to decide ...

    But Custom fields should be carried over IF they are present also in the Contact record. 

    This to avoid users having to type in info again.

    Any chance to get this feature?

  • sorry forgot to mention 1 other point:

    I would like to see a possibility to MODIFY (and then save) filters ...to my knowledge you can now only CREATE a filter ...

  • We've just fallen into the 'convert contact to lead' nightmare and I can't believe Insightly haven't added a 'BULK' change to the system.

    I-Ko wilson is pot on this system is meant to save me time not tie me up. V. frustrating

  • Wow. So this absolute fail of a product decision is still the case? 

    "So after some thoughtful consideration by the team, we came to the conclusion that it does not make sense in Insightly to have a dedicated feature that converts contacts into leads, because a contact can be linked with multiple projects, opportunities, organizations, and other contacts, whereas a lead cannot. Any conversion process from a contact to a lead would break and delete all those links to related records. As such, we decided we won't be developing that feature so I apologize for the guidance I gave earlier in the thread to the contrary."

  • A solution to this problem could be to create a module where you can "work contacts" in a pipeline/kanban, the same way that you do leads. For many types of busiensses (ours included - real estate/finance) for differnet types of deals/transactions ("Projects" in Insightly) we are selling something (opportunity to invest or lend) to potential customers (buyers or lenders) who may be Contacts or Leads. It would be very useful if we could have a method either within Projects or a Custom Object, to add Contacts and Leads together and track activity/status for each in relation to the Object.
