gmail gadget and Leads

I want to save emails I have to leads that I have created. However, if I save an email thru the gmail gadget, it creates a contact and organization since I do not have this in the database associated with the email (only as a lead). I then need to delete the contact and organization and link the email to the lead. Is there a better way or can we turn off the contact and organization generation feature of the gmail gadget?

  • @Glen. There isn't a way to turn off the Contacts or Organizations from being created within the gadget. At this time Leads are not included within our gmail gadget; however I would suggest voting for it within our Community as a feature to be added to the gmail gadget. I apologize I don't have better news to provide you.

  • When receiving an e-mail in our Gmail account we can select Add: New Task, Opportunity, Project, or Event. But not New Lead. Isn't is logical to include this? Please add this functionality for Google Apps users.

  • Please add in the ability to save a new email as a Lead in the Gmail gadget. The current solution requires quite a bit of extra administrative work and is a big feature oversight.  When you released leads, you should have updated the Gadget to support/save leads.

  • I just wanted to chime in again... Saving the emails of my leads is pretty integral to using the leads addition. Every time I save an email it creates a contact and Organization and I find myself constantly deleting the same contacts and organization over and over. Seems to me that there are 2 ways to solve this. 1 is to add a option to save to a lead or contact. The other is to simply de-couple the option from creating a contact/org so after I save an email I can just go into the email and link it to whatever I want. Either would make leads much more useful.

  • Hi all. I've got some good news! We'll soon be launching a new Gmail integration called the Insightly Sidebar which will allow you to save an email as a lead or a contact and much more. Maria, our Director of Product, explains all things you can do with Insightly Sidebar and gives you a sneak peak of the integration  here

  • Hi, I have the same problem. Would be very nice if a contact and lead work all the same, except for their label in the CRM so we can divide the leads from the contacts. The Gmail sidebar does not recognize leads.

Also my (bulk) e-mails to leads are saved under the organisation. The organization is instantly created if I e-mail a lead. I would expect this e-mail to find under the lead.

Furthermore some e-mails were not delivered properly. A resend function would be very handy. Now I have to resend all those e-mails manually.

  • Hi M.H.

    Thanks for your feedback.

Can you provide me more information on what is happening with the emails not being sent properly?

  • Hi Nora,

Insightly is giving the following error (using Gmail / Google Apps):

Error: This email was not sent due to problems communicating with your email provider. Error was "BDAT command has been rejected by the server. 421 4.7.0 Temporary System Problem. Try again later (WS)."

Not for all e-mails but after the first 20 e-mail for a lot of e-mails after that.

    This error means:

421, “4.7.0”, Our system has detected an unusual rate of unsolicited mail originating from your IP address. To protect our users from spam, mail sent from your IP address has been temporarily blocked.

Because all 50 e-mails are send at once, Gmail (and probably other providers) don't like that.

    Regards,

    M.H.

  • Hi M.H.

Thanks for following up. Each provider will have its own policy on emails being sent out and what may be flagged as spam. You may want to contact your email provider regarding the message and block.

  • So, I just started using Insightly and I'm trying to figure out how to create leads that auto-populates info, most importantly the email address of the sender. Is this possible? It just seems counter intuitive to have to create a lead by copying and pasting info into the gadget or if saving and adding link, I would then have to view in Insightly and change to a lead. Or am I missing something? Thanks!

  • Hi Brett,

It looks like you're using the Insightly Sidebar.  At this time, there's no way to create a lead using the Sidebar that auto-populates the information from your email, but this would be an excellent request for our Ideas & Suggestions page!

Our Product and Engineering teams monitor that section of our Community, and use it to gauge which features should be added to Insightly next.  It's the best place to make sure your request is heard! :)
