Pulling across custom fields when converting opportunity to project & lead to contact/opportunity

It would be really great if you could pick-up custom fields in opportunities and pull them across / map them to custom fields in projects when you convert. Similarly for custom fields in leads when you convert to opportunity/contact.

  • Yes please, this would be excellent. I actually thought this feature would be already included. We waste lots of time re-entering our custom fields as an entity moves from lead to opportunity, to project etc

Please can we have the abilty to map custom field data so that when a lead moves to an opportunity and then a project, the custom field data is automatically transfered to the new entity.

Contacts and Organizations would be useful too.

Look at how Zoho CRM does it,IMHO this is a good way to allow users to configure the flow of data.

  • I was trying to figure out if Insightly had that capability, specifically for converting the Lead custom fields to Opportunity.  This would make sense!

  • Thanks for taking the time to provide this feedback. This is really useful for our Product Development team. This helps them know what areas our users focus more on and what to add to our roadmap to help them.

  • I wish this feature was available as well! Or atleast maybe add in the option (convert opportunity to project w/ special fields or without) for people who do not want to duplicate the information and the people that do need this information.

  • This would be very helpful, Agree with Adam Pracy,  One of our only complaints about the CRM system.

  • This feature would be very helpful for me too. I'd like to have the custom field be able to be entered under the lead and have it stay with the lead as it's changed into an opportunity and contact.

  • Hi Aryan:

We have recently added the functionality for your Custom Fields in Leads will now transfer over to the Opportunity record automatically (but only if you have created those same custom fields for both leads and opportunities).

At this time the fields will not transfer to Contacts. This has actually been requested by another user here and I encourage you to add your comments and vote on their post :)

I would recommend you create a new thread for transfer Custom Fields from Opportunity to Project during conversion as a Product Feedback topic, so other users can vote and comment on. That helps us to prioritize features as we continue to build out the product.

Thank you for being part of our Community!

  • I was just about to open a new suggestion but this goes in line with what I feel  is lacking. If the purpose to have a lead and convert a lead into an opportunity and contact is to track results, it is important to keep the information of the Lead. In our case tracking the Lead Origin is crucial to understand which activity generates more and better leads.

So on the one hand I would like to suggest that there is an automated way to replicate the custom fields of a lead into a contact and opportunity so that we don't have to replicate by hand.

On the other allow to better track lead origin for events with status invited/ attended/ not attended as I am now using almost all custom fields for this effect.

    How can I vote?

  • Hi Lyla, are there any plans to look at adding the mapping of custom fields from opportunity to project yet? I've added my vote in this thread above. We're currently having to double enter data here and this would be a really useful feature.

  • Hi Aaron:

This hasn't made it to our roadmap at this time. As you can imagine, we get lots of feature requests from our customers, and deciding which ones to work on can be a challenge. The number of votes is just one of the items taken into consideration when prioritizing requests. If things change, the Community is the first to know. Thank you for being part of our Community.

  • We use custom fields which are used across Leads, Opportunities and Projects, copying them across automatically would be fantastic.

  • Hi,

An update to let you know we shipped this feature. You can now map custom field values when transitioning a lead to an opportunity, contact, or organization; and when converting an opportunity to a project. As a bonus we also shipped the ability to clone custom fields and their values between objects so you can easily copy a custom field and all it's values from a lead to an opportunity for example. You can read more about these two features and how to use them on our blog at:

  • How about letting the custom fields be mapped from the opportunity/project over to the contact? It seems crazy that it can map through the process but not when they have actually become a customer and no longer in the sales pipeline?

We have opportunities that become projects with all the same customer fields but we want to keep all the exact same details in their contact page.
