Automatically update lead status to 'Contacted' when you email them inside Insightly

Lead status is not automatically updated when you e-mail a Lead right now, and remains instead as "OPEN: NOT CONTACTED". That doesn't make any sense, does it?

  • Hi David. I'm afraid we don't have automation that changes Leads status when you email a Lead. The status change needs to be done manually. However, we'll be watching to see how the community votes and comments on your request!

  • I definitely second this request! We email hundreds of leads at a time sometimes so changing the contacted status manually doesn't make any sense.

I hope this makes it through!

  • sorry, I dont mean to come off as glib or short- but is this really a feature request?

Seems like this should be an automatic. Send email- Contacted. I mean we're sending the email via insightly.

When you have thousands of leads, being able to sort them by date contacted would usually be expected. To not even be able to sort them by whether they've been contacted at all is a head scratcher. Am I missing something?

  • @Damien – You can create a filter to sort by "Contacted" versus not, but the question that David has is a separate issue. He's asking for it to change the status when an e-mail is sent... which I second! This MUST be added.

  • HI Casey- thanks for the response. I did understand David's comment, that said my response was a bit convoluted. My apologies.

The scenario I was referring to was the same as Kat's. If we email hundred's of people, and they aren't automatically updated as 'contacted', we aren't able to track/sort who was emailed without going through them manually which makes it a bit pointless.

Again, maybe I was missing something so please feel free to correct me if I am. This was ultimately a deal breaker for me, as having to manually update contact dispositions individually adds more work than I was willing to do. Thanks again for following up.

  • So it's been almost 2 years since the original suggestion. Is this still not in the pipeline? With my limited database development skills, it would seem really easy to do if you did away with the four choices currently in your Lead Status dropdown and just go with a 0/1, Contacted/Not Contacted switch that could be triggered by sending an email.

I add several leads at a time that will receive my initial, cold contact email and I need to be able to see and filter who has already gotten one without the tedious process of going into each contact directly and switching it after I send an email (which could be 50 at a time).

  • I agree it should be automatic - surely it's easy for the system to recognise if the email has been sent through the lead

  • I would like to second this request. I just sent 600 emails and I have to go back and manually do a bulk edit 50 at a time to change status.

  • I agree, it should be automatic.

  • Agree this should be automatic. Industry standard for CRMs and proper lead status management. Not having this trigger also means activity reports are incorrect. Failing to see the logic of overlooking this simple script which directly translates to moving leads through a process.
