Add time scheduling to tasks

As well as having a 'start date' and 'due date', can we have a 'start time' and 'due time'? Or even 'this task should take X hours and Y minutes to complete. That would make it easier to schedule tasks / workload into a working day and would avoid overloading yourself with work. It would also help me to give customers a realistic timescale for any given new task if I could see what other work is due. Even better if it linked with the calendar so that if you move tasks around on the calendar and they automatically update in the task list.

  • Not sure why time tracking would be a priority when we have a couple of mission critical issues that aren't being addressed currently that should be part of the core system. Time tracking is a very niche need whereas this other stuff is fairly universal and should be a foundational piece of the system.

  • I agree with kevin. I'd offer my time for useful studies but not time tracking. There are good tools out there for free. What a great customer retention opportunity not to wait until the end of the year with this important feature.

  • Wouldn't you just create an event instead of a task? Isn't that the difference?

  • If events were treated by Insightly exactly the same as tasks, I could simply use the event. But they aren't. Task features are far superior to the event features. Recently, Insightly made a couple of important improvements in the events function that brought them closer like actually showing what an event is and when it occurs instead of when it is created and nothing else, but the obvious solution is simply to retain all the great task features and add the option for a start and end time.

  • Totally agree. I tried to use events and my client got completely confused. When you convert a lead to opportunity, it allows you to create a task. Her task was "Meeting with Chuck at 10am." She actually typed that. I then thought, "Whoa, how will you know this meeting is 10am?" A simple "Time" option would then put the task on the calendar and sync to her other calendar at the RIGHT TIME. This seems so obvious. I'll ask my contact at insightly.

  • This request has been pending for a while now. Looks like Insightly like to work on developments what they like.. Not what customers / users ask them... Otherwise it is a good platform.

I use GCQueues for scheduling my tasks. It syncs with my google calendar so I have everything in one place when I look at the calendar. But it is inconvenient that everything is not in one place.

  • Hi All:

One of my posts may have been buried but we are looking for users to sign up for a study pertaining to Time Tracking and you can join us by heading over here.

This is because we've found that time tracking means something different to everyone, for example some users are looking for Time tracking by the minute, only for Tasks or hourly times that flow into your billing system just to name a few and we want to collect more information on this from as many users as we can :)

  • I saw it but this is an entirely different issue. Time tracking would be cool for my clients. But having a time on a task is simply a way to say the task is due on this day and "this time." Why should a task only be due on a day? What if it must be due by noon?

  • Hi Eric:

Thanks for the comment, I see where you're coming from. Sorry about that, the study I mentioned above was added because we want to get as many thoughts as we can about time tracking which can be related to this feature request.

    Thanks!

  • Hi All:

Thank you for the interest in the usability study on time tracking, we've actually filled all our spots for now and will let you know if we need more from you :)

  • We are currently using events instead of tasks in order to overcome the time scheduling shortfall of tasks. However, we have got a large number of projects running concurrently with the same pre-defined pipeline and activity sets meaning a large number of events being created and synced with our google calendars. This is where the mess starts. In the calendar only the pre-defined event name shows up with no reference to which project it actually belongs. We previously observed the same behaviour for tasks. At least here it is possible to see the project reference in the tasks overview within insightly itself. How difficult is it to include/append the project name in the task/event name when they are created? This is probably as crucial to us as being able to schedule tasks to a certain time instead of just the date. Vote +1 + additional project name integration!

  • Hi Michael,

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback and detailed information on the need for time scheduling and project name appearing.

  • I would also love to see this feature. Insightly has everything I need except this one thing... will keep looking.

  • Hi Guys,

in one of the previous posts you said you'll do a major overhaul of how tasks are implemented...

Well, end of 2016 is getting near and I really hope we can get some ETA on this.

  • It's quite annoying to have to put closing time 3pm on insightly which has it on my google calendar as an all day event. Then having to go to my calendar to add it again with the correct time. Let's get this problem solved! Please and thank you Insightly!

  • I have GIVEN UP on this feature ever being available, I just cancelled my account. I don't think anyone there understands why people want to be able to have a task for a specific date AND TIME - e.g. to call a customer back. If they ever get this feature, I may be back, or I may not. The lack of this feature (after 17 months, when this topic started) after all of this time is RIDICULOUS!

I kept hoping they would add this, but I'm done - no more.

  • Agreed, without time scheduling this platform is rendered useless.

  • Yes, I agree with Lee Roth. What is going on with this? With so many paying users of this software there should at least be some kind of update or timeline of this issue and how it will be resolved. The lack of attention to this problem has me considering other options and will cancel with Insightly.

Please let us know where we are with this issue. I encourage others to keep posting and following up to get this fixed.

  • Hello, can you provide an update on this please? Is it likely that we will be able to assign time scheduling to tasks any time soon?

  • Insightly's home page says,

    Powerful CRM and Project Management

Their title needs to be read carefully....  It should NOT be understood to mean  "Powerful CRM and Powerful Project Management" !  Insightly is "Powerful CRM and (some very limited) project management".    Apparently there will be some improvements to project management in 2017 so hopefully the title will make more sense.  Still waiting for the end of 2016 release of the new task functionality that was alluded to in the early parts of this thread.

  • Grzegorz - I am losing patience with this issue. What other company have you found for an alternative? I'm about ready to quit Insightly as well since they won't add this feature. . .

  • Well, unfortunately I'm going to have to draw the line. I checked out Pipedrive.com and it supports all the features we have been asking for. With no updates on progress and seemingly no improvements in sight from Insightly I am cancelling my account and switching to Pipedrive. We shouldn't have to wait so long for a fix on this issue.

  • @Eric, I'd like to know the 'but..' too.

The silence on the product updates or road-map is concerning.

I've been looking at alternatives and Pipedrive was on the list. So was AgileCRM.
