Business card scan: OCR and top up

Hi

I's a pity that the transcription is done manually. I'd love to choose between that and OCR.

Aren't there plenty of online character recognition technologies to use yet? Like http://www.textkernel.com/ provides?

At least it would be nice to top up the number of cards per month independently from booked plan. Five is far to less if you're on a exhibition.

Why not 10 scans each for a Dollar via Paypal... it's done anyway via Amazon Mechanical Turk like service and should be scalable? Regards

Hi Brenda & Nora & the Insightly team,

I've been following this thread for some time and the only positive thing about it is that at least I've found that I am not alone in feeling gigantic frustration at the lack of this feature and Insightly's handling of our questions and queries about it.

The thread was created over 1.5yrs ago and what has the progress been?

One of my teams has been testing Insightly and two other CRMS for six months while we prepare for my company’s launch; finally, after many years of development my company and product is launching on the 1st December.  Now a task I must complete in the next two weeks is to make a final decision on a CRM for my staff.  I would dearly like to choose Insightly however I am very concerned that Insightly is forgetting what your company’s product is for... Customer Relationship Management...... yes?

If I can't enter new clients into the CRM efficiently then there is no customer to manage and your software is not fulfilling its primary function.  Without this there is no sales pipeline, no notes, no bulk data updates, no communication to keep track of, there is nothing as the primary piece of data, the customer file, is missing.

Across my staff we will be obtaining approximately 700 - 1000 new contacts a month and currently there appears no way to handle this with Insightly which leaves us with the option of Salesforce.  I am not a huge fan of Salesforce and I much prefer Insightly's overall operation and UI however Salesforces does have an EXCELLENT integration with CardCam.  I've been testing CardCam for the past three months and its accuracy is very impressive and averaging 92%.  The amount of time this will save my sales staff, the added professionalism it gives them when dealing with new clients and the speed with which potential sales can then be followed up with is worth its weight in gold.  No longer does collecting client details interrupt the flow of conversation or waste valuable time.

A previous comment made by Barbara about Insightly checking with their customer base and being told that accuracy is preferred over speed seems ridiculous when you can have both, they are not mutually exclusive.

Can someone from Insightly PLEASE stop treating their clients on this thread like children and provide a straight answer.  I'll make it easy and provide you a multiple-choice list, please choose any that apply and provide some detail.

    1. Integration with an existing OCR app is being undertaken AND the time frame is....
    2. A custom OCR app will be developed AND the time frame is...
    3. The manual card limit will be increased on a pay for us service model AND this will occur.....
    4. Insightly will not be changing its current card scanning options at any time in the next 12 months

The most efficient and cost effective option would be for Insightly to partner with an existing OCR app and I hope that's what you will be telling us is occurring.

The most important thing here is for Insightly to stop beating around the bush and give a firm detailed responce, enough of leading customers on.

I look very much forward to your swift and decisive response,

    Sincerely,

    Michael Smith

  • Michael's post expresses my feeling as well. I am using insightly now, but eventually if the card scanning does not get resolved, I will also have to leave to find another CRM. I look forward to hearing the answers to Michael's questions.

  • The sad thing is that there is already an interface with the evernote scanning feature. But the OCRed cards are just importable as notes instead of contacts. So you have to create the contact manually and then attach the evernote card which is an image and the contact details. If you want the details in the contact fields (eg. phone email etc...) you have to do that manually.

  • Hi Kristina & Frank,

Thanks for your comments and support on this critical issue.  Can I please ask you to vote up the main thread by clicking on the heart next to the initial discussion.  The more votes the more chance they will provide an actual response.

    Thanks,

    Michael

  • Insightly... WTF is going on?

Last company response on this thread was 10 months ago, despite many new requests and comments.

How hard is this for you to reply?

Do you actually give a crap about communicating with your customers?

  • Hi Michael - sorry for slow communication on this issue. We were waiting until the point when work was prioritized and assigned to a team and a product manager, which it has been as of last week.

Here is our approach with our card scanner:

     - Mobile team is in the midst of researching alternative options from a current provider for human transcription, with the intention of lowering costs per scan (which is the driver behind low limits per month). We are looking into CamCard as well.

     - Once we find a lower cost solution, we are planning to increase limits and make cards available to customers on a "shared pool" basis rather than a per user basis. We are also considering an option to offer a stand alone purchase of additional scans.

     - OCR is also on the table.

This work is currently actively taking place. We will be posting updates here going forward as the project progresses. Thank you.

  • Hi all - apologies for the slow communication! The mobile team has settled on a strategy for our human transcription and we are currently in the midst of finalizing the specifics. Once that is done we will update the community with additional details. We appreciate your feedback and keeping us honest!

  • It's Jan'18 and still no updates on this?

I understand that there are resource contraints but clearly there is a customer base that you are not listening properly.

  • Hi all! We have re-evaluated and decided on a new approach utilizing OCR. We have begun development on the approach but the effort is large and we’ll continue making progress but please bear with us. We will have a more in-depth update for y’all in the coming months, stay tuned. We appreciate your feedback and keeping us honest!

  • I am just evaluating Insightly and it hasn't taken me long to find out how tedious it is to input card information into insightly.  Nor has it taken long to find that many other users are also feeling the pain.

If you can't develop your own system within a reasonable time, just provide a 3rd party interface to another product.

Charging per scan is ridiculous. You charge a subscription for a CRM.  That means putting customers into the system should be painless and encouraged.

  • Hi,

What is the status of this topic? @Jesse Axelowitz (Insightly Team Member) says on January 18 2018: "We will have a more in-depth update for y’all in the coming months, stay tuned."

    Look forward tot he update.

Many of my clients (I implement Insightly at companies) want to scan more business cards than the current limit of 15 cards per user per month.

    Thanks.

  • Hello,

I created a tutorial showing you how to integrate with third party tools like Full Contact and Zapier to get unlimited scans.

    Thank you,

    Micah Feldkamp

  • Well, it is now over a year later and there is no change.

Scans are limited to 15/month for the Plus Plan.

What I find UNFAIR is that I pay for an entire year in January but the services are limited to 15/month.

What if I don't use all 15? THEY ARE LOST! Unsued scans do not carry over from month to month!

Perhaps you should learn from mobile carriers. Carrying over minutes or UNLIMITED minutes is now the norm.
