html pasting in email templates (wysiwyg editor)

We like the new function of email templates but we won't be able to use it unless you provide the possibility to send out nicely formatted email templates to customers.

We design our emails basically in mailchimp and have them saved as canned responses (through the labs extension of gmail) but it is pretty complicated to maintain this system and also we have to change the name of the client each time.

There is no need to provide extended formatting capabilities just the possibility to paste an html code to a wysiwyg editor and placeholders.

Would you consider it to implement this? I thing this functionality would be welcomed by a lot of users.

  • We need full HTMl editing.

    The Insightly editor is juvenile.

One can't even center or underline text!

This is what you competitors offer.  Note ALL THE BUILT-IN EDITING FEATURES

    and the HTML EDIT BUTTON>

@Lyla T.:  This editing code is straight off-the-shelf tech.  How on earth could it take to "beyond 2016" to implement?

  • Yes. HTML editing in emails would be more than appreciated. Honestly it appears strange that this standard function is not implemented yet.

Even the edit function for comments in this forum allows adding a link and pic ;)

But hey - thanks for upscaling the fields function in the email feature. That is of really big help for sending presonalised emails.

    Best!

  • Hi christian.bothe - Our Community is supported on the Zendesk platform which is separate from Insightly so you will see some differences in the capabilities.

Hello Henrique Félix - We are working towards improving our Mailchimp integration to meet your marketing needs and signature support in our email templates is something we still desire to provide.

  • Dear Insightly,

My company is transitioning from Salesforce to you. I'm very disappointed you don't offer HTML in your email templates.

Sending an email and attached proposal is one of the most important jobs of a CRM like Insightly. People are very persuaded by the look of things: If I'm sending a lame-looking text email with my proposal, and my competitor is looking sharp with a well-formatted one with images, etc. (like we were doing in Salesforce), it's going to cost us business.

This is a big downstep for us from Salesforce, so you're at a huge disadvantage that you don't offer this. According to your comments in this thread, you aren't prioritising it. Please reconsider that. Your clients urgently need it!

  • I agree wholeheartedly. HTML editing functionality for email is a much-needed feature.

  • I'm a new Insightly user and while setting everything up I have noticed that the Email Signature editor supports HTML editing - could this same WYSIWYG editor not also be applied to the Email Templates?

  • I'll start with saying that Insightly rocks, it really does, and you should always start by saying something nice:)

However, the emailing function is really outdated, and if I am going to use canned responses, I need to be able to make them all pretty.

I am currently trying to use the platform to arrange an event for about three hundred people and the rest of the functionality is perfect for it (I want to keep in contact with the event participants afterwards, so the setup as a contact for each accepted invitation is a valuable investment), but I need to send a response with some links to the event, a nice thank you note and those important logos, and a longtext layout response just does not give the right impression.

So please, put in on the priority list, because it really is a limiting factor for using you otherwise amazing platform.

(And I could have just written +1, but wanted to thank you for an amazing product, and explain why the lack of this functionality is so bad)

  • I agree that at this stage it is unacceptable that paying customers of Insightly do not have the option of creating Mailchimp-lime email templates to use for marketing strategies.

I understand the Mailchimp integration but it is a rather cheap fix for a CRM like Insightly  :(

  • It appears that Insightly does not want to implement HTML capability in their email system due to their relationship with MailChimp. Unless you do large scale email marketing campaigns, MailChimp is cumbersome to use for short run emailing. I will be forced to look at Insightly competitors unless they act on this request.

  • Are there any planned future releases where  HTML EMAIL TEMPLATE feature will be included?

This would be invaluable to me in communicating my brand to my clients.

  • Insightly- there have not been any responses since early this year. Is this something that is planned, or do I need to move my company's business? If there is a timeline to develop it, please share with us.

  • Hello everyone, an update from the product team: per strong demand from all of you for native email marketing in Insightly, we are planning to add 'Campaigns' to Insightly in 2018-2019. This feature would support formatted templates, campaign activity tracking and will build on the automation engine that shipped with workflow automation last month to provide criteria and time-based email trigger system. Timeline - it is highly unlikely this feature is going to be delivered in the first quarter (Jan, Feb, Mar) due to an already full roadmap of the user interface, reporting and email plug-in improvements. We will post an update here in early 2017 once we have a better estimate. Thank you for all your votes and, of course, please keep in mind that even the best laid plans can change. Please make your purchasing decisions based on Insightly features available today. Thank you again.

  • Why is it that we can't get a straight answer to this HTML question? It is quite apparent that Insightly must have some type of contractual obligation to Mail Chimp giving them exclusivity to providing HTML email capability to Insightly.

For those of us who would like to simply send out a limited quantity of HTML news releases or even single emails with graphic content I view it as an essential capability for any CRM be it cloud based or not. We were ACT! users for 20+ years and at least ten years ago they developed the HTML capability for their templates. MailChimp is simply not suited for this type of work, it is designed for large email campaigns and is complicated to set up the templates etc.

I don't see where setting HTML capability up in Insightly will infringe upon MailChimp's core market.

You can see when this thread started, why has there been no action on this most basic of email function?

  • I agree 100% - we cancelled insightly last month after "waiting and seeing" for over a year. In our opinion they are wasting time developing worthless features instead of giving their paying customers what they are asking for. They are counting on the fact that most people won't cancel because it's such an inconvenience to migrate all of your data to a new crm. They *think* they've got you 'hostage.'

  • Agreed, I'm not happy with Insightly's "string you along" attitude on this. It is a pain to migrate elsewhere but not impossible we switched from ACT to Salesforce to Insightly so I guess we can switch again to Zoho or Zendesk etc..if need be.

  • Dear Lyla,

Thank you for your hopeful response. We are in a process of 'probably' moving to Insightly coming from Solve360 CRM. We are trying out Insightly and we are stunned that e-mails cannot be formatted with HTML code. Not even the most simple integration (just the function to switch from WYSIWYG to the HTML source) is not provided. We are surprised by this because Insightly obviously makes use of beautifully formatted automated e-mails so you must be aware of the importance of it.

I'm enclosing a print screen of the e-mail template editor in Solve360. It has a lot of functionality, but again, it does not even need to be that extensive. Simpy implement a source code switcher as a first step and you will have a lot of happy customers (and probably some new ones as well).

We are even more surprised because the technique is already there taking a look at Insightly's ability to format e-mail signatures:

It seems to be the exact same HTML editor in another configuration. Please take notice of the importance of this functionality. For us as end users it doesn't seem to be such a big thing to implement (an HTML source code switcher). That's why it leads to misunderstandings (just 1 button).

  • Neil's, as I indicated in my comments before Insight ly is committed to Mailchimp and doesn't see the need to change that currently in my view. If you migrate over you better be prepared for a wait for this feature.

  • Dear Insightly team, dear Maria,

While surfing the forum and reading for any estimates on HTML integration in e-mail templates (which is not a replacement for campaign tools like MailChimp) I saw that there are several topics regarding this very much needed feature. To summarise:

.. makes 132 votes. I understand that you prefer customers to make choices based on the current feature set. However, for me as a decision maker it's not that easy to choose between CRM's with no vision or planned changes that positively affect our workflow. So please update the community (or in a personal message) about timelines for this feature.

    Kind regards, Niels

  • Agreed. I left insightly a few months ago and still follow the feeds hoping to see improvement but the lack of updates only validated my decision to use another product.

  • Hello everyone. As we've previously communicated, we are planning to add full HTML support as part of the new 'email campaigns' feature slated for 2017. Based on the current roadmap, our best estimate is this will happen in 4th quarter, closer to the end of the year.

Between now and then, in addition to many other features, we'll be doing full refresh of the email plugins for Gmail and Outlook. New versions of both plugins will support Insightly's popular "Schedule Send" and Insightly templates (which could be HTML edited in your Outlook or Gmail compose window). Although this is not a direct solve for your needs, I thought I would mention this here on this thread.

Thank you for your patience. Please make your purchasing decisions based on Insightly features available today.

  • Hi Maria and everyone,

As we are now moving into the fourth quarter of 2017 - I thought I would ask, is this still estimated to be released in the 4th quarter?

    Thanks

  • Very important and most apps and websites do far more the inSightly.  We don't want our emails to be boring and unsightly.
