Enable manual sorting of tasks

Currently Tasks are organized into large blocks such has "Overdue Tasks", "Later Tasks" or "Completed Tasks". Alternatively, task can be prioritized a low, medium or high importance. However, when many tasks accumulate within one of these large blocks, there seems to be no way to manually order the task lists. This means that I must visually scan a long list each time I want to find a particular task that I am now working on. It would be great if I could drag and drop tasks into any order so that I can dynamically re-prioritize and immediately find the task I want at the top of my list.

Task lists can be customized, grouped and sorted in the New Insightly User Experience shipped in 2017.

Here are a couple of articles that should help:

  • Great suggestion! Currently you can view by the user or Category but there isn't a way to filter unless you export. Thanks for taking the time to share!

  • Hi Richard,

I think manual sorting is a great idea! I'm hoping for an update for this very same feature in the projects, opportunities, and lead pages. I think this feature would fit well across the board, especially for tasks! Obviously priorities can change fast during the day and custom filters or current "sort by" options don't always fit your needs. Feel free to check out my post in the product feedback- web app section titled "Feature request: Add "click and drag" feature to "sort by" drop down.

  • Hi Nora,

I got the same answer from your customer support today too. I don't think exporting task lists to excel to then sort them (by priority for ex) is a solution. I'm desperately trying to get rid of my excel task lists, not be forced to go back!

Otherwise I find insightly a brilliant tool but the tasks are definitely the step-child in the family! Contacts, organizations, opportunities etc. are so much better conceived.

Please do keep working on the tasks.

    regards,

    Boris

  • Hi Nora,

This feature is definitely going to be a huge step. Drag and drop would be the best solution. Other than that adding the time, like in Events, would also be a great idea. Sometimes tasks are created based on appointments with clients.

On the other hand an Event should be able to be recurrent too, just like tasks. That way we wouldn't need to create birthdays, anniversaries, licence expiration as tasks.

    Keep up the good work.

    Regards,

    Bryan

  • Yes it would be really great to sort the tasks. It is the central feature. By the way your project is really the best we could find on the entire market for a small company like ours.

  • Here! Here!  Hey Team, I could not agree more with the other commenters that drag and drop sorting should be an option for tasks, but this is a feature that should be implemented across the board. For me I would find a huge benefit and become a more active user if this was implemented not only for tasks but for all major list based tabs, particularly projects and opportunities.

Could someone from insightly please respond to this thread to let us know if this is specifically in the works, or at least identify any technical challenges associated with implementation like this? Google Keep and Momentum dashboard would be two great places to look for inspiration!

    Thanks!

    Shane

  • the drag and drop feature is a nice one I know from other platforms.

BUT I would be happy to be able to filter and sort by different paramenters, e.g. priority. It seems to me that the fact that this feature is missing is really not understandable.

    Cheers

  • Hey, thanks for the support on this one. Other great examples of drag and drop list prioritising are Asana and Trello.

  • by the way, the software FengOffice, which we have been using until now, has the drag-and-drop feature all over the interface. That was a nice feature I'm missing here.

But i stress again: drag n drop would be nice, however, what i really need is filtering and sorting by different parameter (Sorry for repeating that ;-) )

  • Drag and drop would be the best, so it can be fully customized to the user's preferences. I would also like the option to have the current day's tasks show at the top of the list, ABOVE all overdue tasks. Many overdue tasks are low priority but the tasks for that specific day should be immediately at eye level on the top of the list (with overdue right under it).

  • Hi I vote for a standard setting that tasks are sorted by due date: newest date first. Perhaps with options to manually sort on other columns.

  • So this is now 2017 and this request has been outstanding since 2015? Task sorting is a must, especially for evolving projects that undergo changes as processes are refined and streamlined. The code logic should already be available - you offer it for custom fields.

Our company is new to Insightly. We are truly surprised that this feature has been outstanding for 2 years. We are having to apply a forced numbering system in order to get our tasks to fall into proper order - and Insightly also does not even recognize that '20' is greater than '3' which makes our efforts even more painstaking.

Please, please add manual sort. Dates do not work for us either - we have free floating projects that are more sequential than date driven.

  • Yes, please add this! Just need to be able to drag and drop tasks. It would greatly increase the usability.

  • What's been said above!  Why cannot you sort tasks by the fields in the database?  For instance, you have a nice check for tasks that are "waiting for someone else", and I'd love to have a nice list of all such tasks (very GTD, I know).  It's insane that you only have 2 ways of sorting tasks.

  • Seems like this is a redundant request with https://support.insight.ly/hc/en-us/community/posts/202786620-Drag-and-Drop-Task-List

In the default "Compact View", it creates "swimlanes" for Tasks based on when they're due, but I'd love to be able to change the field that these "swimlanes" are based on to something besides Due Date...namely...PROJECT!
