Microsoft Outlook Contact Sync

Outlook calendar sync works great, but we really need full contact sync with Outlook too. While I appreciate that many people use Google products and services, there's no denying that Outlook is the standard mail client in business.

Please can we have full Outlook contact sync added soon. This is an important feature that is currently missing.

  • Yes, you need to sync contacts with Outlook 2010 and 13

  • I agree that we need a real time "Contact" sync between Outlook and Insightly, just like u have for Google contacts. I think having this functionality would be a very attractive marketing plus to get more users for Insightly

  • YES!!!  Please!!!  Google Contacts is not what our Corporate tells us to use.  There is a HUGE base of companies using Outlook.  The connector is OK, but we need a Sync for Contacts.  Please!!

  • Agreed, we also use MS Office 365 and Outlook 2013. It would make a massive difference to be able to sync for Contacts. Enough people are requesting this function, so I would think it would be great to give it some priority. In our company we don't use Google Contacts. Thanks.

  • Agreed. While Insightly is great for other reasons, the lack of an outlook contact sync could force us to move to another provider.

  • Hi all. This info is about to go live our Integrations page but our integration partner, Podbox, offers contact sync with Insightly. You can try it for free here.

And we just opened up a new topic area in the community called Insightly Partner Integrations where Insightly partner experts will be dropping by to answer any questions about the integrations they've built. Thanks!

p.s. Hope you don't mind the second comment. Nora and my post just missed each other!

  • Only for Outlook 365 - not a desktop version of outlook.  And for only $25/month.  So no, not exactly great news.

  • I am very happy to see that this badly  needed contact  integration has been rolled out. But it seems very odd that it costs  more  to sync contacts than it does to use the wonderful and  robust CRM  Insightly platform.

    Doesn't that seem strange ?

  • This is very disappointing. I subscribed to insightly as I truly thought it was a great product. But, now I feel quite disappointed that existing insightly subscribers are being asked to pay for something which really should be included as part of insightly subscription. Asking clients to pay for something that costs more than the cost of a subscription could alienate existing clients and deter potential clients from taking out subscriptions.

  • I agree - I'm a Office 365 and Outlook 2013 user and would think that the contact sync would be an option without paying $25/mth (more than the CRM!).

  • Very disapointed with this. I like many other users were expecting native support from Insightly and not to have to pay an extra $25 a month for something that should have been included from the start. I couldn't agree more with James who said "Asking clients to pay for something that costs more than the cost of a subscription could alienate existing clients and deter potential clients from taking out subscriptions.

This is not great news, and if you understood your customers, you would know that this is't great news for them. Great news for your customers would be "We've released a free native plugin/integration to allow contacts to sync to Outlook" and we apologise for not having this critical feature ready earlier.

  • Thanks for pointing out a 3rd party alternative. To the points above, the pricing on their integration is cost-prohibitive. Please continue to pursue native functionality included in the Insightly offering.

  • Hi everyone. Since Insightly doesn't currently offer this functionality, we just wanted to point out an alternative for those that needed a solution right now. We totally understand if this integration isn't right for you, but we do ask that your responses are respectful for those that are interested and want the information so they can make their own decisions.

Remember that your votes and constructive feedback are what helps shape our roadmap. If there are any questions about professional conduct in this open forum, please take a minute to read our community guidelines . Thanks!

  • Now if you had said this in the first place, and made it clear that this was an optional solution as a stop gap until Insightly deliver a proper native solution,  then you wouldn't have got the kinds of responses that you did. Neither Nora or yourself gave the slightest clue that this was an alternative solution or a stop gap solution.

I've amended my post to be more respecful and I will continue to do so in future, I apologise, I was very angry with the way in which this was done.

In return can we the community of your customers ask that you be more informative with your annoucements. A more thoughtfully worded and clearer announcement post would have completely avoided this altogether.

This isn't the first time Insightly has been confusing with its information for customers. Remember you had to update the wording on your sales information about the Backup/Restore feature because it wasn't clear to your customers.

  • So I am unclear .. Is there or is there not an Internal initiative to offer Microsoft Outlook sync as part of the product.  Is it on the road map?  2015?  It would help us make decisions if we knew what Insightly's priorities were on this.  Courtesy works both ways.

  • I agree Adam....they always seem to give 1/2 an answer to questions.  I feel like a kid here sometimes.  I'm not sure why they need to be so guarded with their answers.  If you're working on something just let us know that you are and approximately when it might be done.

Like Kenneth stated, I'm still not clear if this is something that they are actually working on.

It truly is unfortunate that this program is lacking a couple of key elements.  Insightly is almost a great product.  Some clear communication on upcoming features would go a long way to bridge the gap for those of us that are on the fence.

  • I fully agree with Adam's comments. He summed up exactly how I felt when I read the posting about the Outlook add on/plug-in. The fact that it was also announced as "good news" made me even more annoyed.

I felt "cheated" too, especially after I had taken time to provide a positive comment on LinkedIn about insightl's CRM, only to subsequently receive an email from someone in Customer Service at insightly asking me how I was getting on with the CRM. I would still like to know if anything is being done about the syncing of Outlook contacts on insightly for MS Office 365 and standalone Outlook.

  • So Insightly .. anything on this??  Is a Contact Sync in the plans as part of the product roadmap.  Just tell us, yes or no.

  • Hi everyone. Thanks for your patience. I wanted to check once more with Product. My apologies if you felt that that we were being unclear here. We just wanted to give you an option. We have definitely taken your feedback to heart and will watch the way we word things in the future.

I can verify that Outlook contact sync is not on our current roadmap. That's not to say that it will never happen, but it is not in the immediate future.

  • Hi Brenda:

Is there any reason why the development of a proper and fully functional Outlook sync function for insightly can't be developed sooner, rather than later?

Outlook is an industry standard email system, therefore it would certainly make sense to bring the development of this function to the forefront, rather than just using vague terms.

  • Hi James. We have features and functionality that impact all customers that take precedence. I know it's a bummer for this group of Outlook users but it's what we're looking at.

  • Hello All, I am evaluating switching to Insightly. From this discussion thread, I am concluding that Insightly does not have a direct integration with Outlook that allows a contact in Outlook to be directly imported into Insightly. How then do you Outlook users work with Insightly. Do you enter the contact in Outlook and then again manually enter the contact in Insightly? Thank you.

  • Hi Greg,

they have an app it works okay with Microsoft Office 365 which enables you to click and it adds the email address. To be honest I am not happy with Insightly at dragging their feet on the integration oft their product with Outlook. This is going to be my last months subscription and I will look for another product that integrates more efficiently with Outlook. It's a shame really, because I like Insightly, but I'm not happy with the way it works with Outlook.

  • Hey @Greg, thanks for checking us out. You can add Contacts in both places manually or export your data from Outlook in to a CSV and import into Insightly.

@James, we do understand we aren't a perfect fit for everyone and hope you come see us again in the future.

  • All I can figure is that Insightly has some agreement, or some ideology, or some potential buyout with Google.  And that they do not want to make their product any more Microsoft "friendly".  It is obvious that they don't care about any type of Outlook sync.  It is NOT coming.

  • Hi Kenneth. I just checked with Product for the latest on this request and here it is: A contact sync with Outlook is on our roadmap for 2016. They are still discussing when this can happen and when details are available we will let everyone know.

Historically, Insightly started out as a Google Apps app and later grew to support Outlook customers as well. Because of this, it's our strong desire to support Outlook customers and it's a matter of time and resources -- not any kind of contractual agreement with Google - on why it has not yet happened.

I hope this addresses any thoughts you shared above. Thank you for your feedback and we do appreciate you being part of our Insightly family.

  • Hi Brenda,

Your comment seems a bit more encouraging. However, I hope that Insightly continue to work towards more developing a more efficient syncing mechanism and integration with MS Outlook, especially for Outlook in MS Office 365.

Insightly is a good product and there are a lot of loyal user willing to give feedback. In business there is a saying, "the customer is always right" , therefore, Insightly should listen to their customers and heed what they are saying. As one day, someone else may develop a product that does exactly what they have been asking Insightly to do develop for a long time
