Microsoft Outlook Contact Sync

Outlook calendar sync works great, but we really need full contact sync with Outlook too. While I appreciate that many people use Google products and services, there's no denying that Outlook is the standard mail client in business.

Please can we have full Outlook contact sync added soon. This is an important feature that is currently missing.

  • I agree that we need a real time "Contact" sync between Outlook and Insightly, just like u have for Google contacts. I think having this functionality would be a very attractive marketing plus to get more users for Insightly

  • YES!!!  Please!!!  Google Contacts is not what our Corporate tells us to use.  There is a HUGE base of companies using Outlook.  The connector is OK, but we need a Sync for Contacts.  Please!!

  • Yes, you need to sync contacts with Outlook 2010 and 13

  • Agreed, we also use MS Office 365 and Outlook 2013. It would make a massive difference to be able to sync for Contacts. Enough people are requesting this function, so I would think it would be great to give it some priority. In our company we don't use Google Contacts. Thanks.

  • I am very happy to see that this badly  needed contact  integration has been rolled out. But it seems very odd that it costs  more  to sync contacts than it does to use the wonderful and  robust CRM  Insightly platform.

    Doesn't that seem strange ?

  • I agree - I'm a Office 365 and Outlook 2013 user and would think that the contact sync would be an option without paying $25/mth (more than the CRM!).

  • This is very disappointing. I subscribed to insightly as I truly thought it was a great product. But, now I feel quite disappointed that existing insightly subscribers are being asked to pay for something which really should be included as part of insightly subscription. Asking clients to pay for something that costs more than the cost of a subscription could alienate existing clients and deter potential clients from taking out subscriptions.

  • Very disapointed with this. I like many other users were expecting native support from Insightly and not to have to pay an extra $25 a month for something that should have been included from the start. I couldn't agree more with James who said "Asking clients to pay for something that costs more than the cost of a subscription could alienate existing clients and deter potential clients from taking out subscriptions.

This is not great news, and if you understood your customers, you would know that this is't great news for them. Great news for your customers would be "We've released a free native plugin/integration to allow contacts to sync to Outlook" and we apologise for not having this critical feature ready earlier.

  • Thanks for pointing out a 3rd party alternative. To the points above, the pricing on their integration is cost-prohibitive. Please continue to pursue native functionality included in the Insightly offering.

  • Hi Kenneth. I just checked with Product for the latest on this request and here it is: A contact sync with Outlook is on our roadmap for 2016. They are still discussing when this can happen and when details are available we will let everyone know.

Historically, Insightly started out as a Google Apps app and later grew to support Outlook customers as well. Because of this, it's our strong desire to support Outlook customers and it's a matter of time and resources -- not any kind of contractual agreement with Google - on why it has not yet happened.

I hope this addresses any thoughts you shared above. Thank you for your feedback and we do appreciate you being part of our Insightly family.

  • definitely need it.

most companies use Outlook Mail and Exchange Server for Business purposes.

Google Contacts and Google mail might be good for some people, but are no use to my business.

I use Exchange server and need two way sync.

  • I live in Outlook, not Insightly.  Insightly is what I put my notes into, save certain emails to, perform mailings off of, etc.  But All day, everyday I am in Outlook.  So I want my email address's and phone numbers from my contacts sync'd there.  And not ALL of them.  No need to have my Leads there, just my Contacts.  And not even all of those, just need Contacts with a specific tag.

I am too old to give up Outlook.  Your way may be a perfectly fine way of doing things, just not my way.  In addition, my whole company uses Outlook and we use Group Calendars (I know there are other good calendars out there, I use Outlook).

Finally, my phone sync's to my outlook.  I know it can sync to google .. but I use Outlook.  I am not alone.  There are a lot of people who use Outlook and Insightly.  Why this isn't a higher priority I can't understand.  We have been patient.

  • Not sure why so much push back from Insightly... More people use MS Office/Exchange that use Google G-Apps, and always will. PieSync is probably a good tool, BUT it's almost as expensive as Insightly... I don't want to have to purchase add-ins for every missing function.

Connecting Insightly with the day to day tools we use is important. Let me give you an example... Insightly contact data does not sync with my iPhone contacts like my Outlook contacts do. So, when I want to call a client/prospect/etc. I have to use Insightly, I cannot use Google Voice or T-Mobile Digits which use the native apps for contacts.

  • To the folks at Insightly - As you can see this is an issue.

I know that this is request means a lot of work and that working with Microsoft is probably not pleasant. But in the real world, Exchange/Office365 has about 90% of the market and Google/G-Apps for Business has about 7%. I understand that the Google product is growing and that it's always better to skate to where the puck is going. But I don't believe that this Google will make significant inroads for some time (maybe 8 to 10 years).

PieSync is a great product, but I object to having to pay for a service that should be part and parcel of my CRM.

  • So I am unclear .. Is there or is there not an Internal initiative to offer Microsoft Outlook sync as part of the product.  Is it on the road map?  2015?  It would help us make decisions if we knew what Insightly's priorities were on this.  Courtesy works both ways.

  • I fully agree with Adam's comments. He summed up exactly how I felt when I read the posting about the Outlook add on/plug-in. The fact that it was also announced as "good news" made me even more annoyed.

I felt "cheated" too, especially after I had taken time to provide a positive comment on LinkedIn about insightl's CRM, only to subsequently receive an email from someone in Customer Service at insightly asking me how I was getting on with the CRM. I would still like to know if anything is being done about the syncing of Outlook contacts on insightly for MS Office 365 and standalone Outlook.

  • So Insightly .. anything on this??  Is a Contact Sync in the plans as part of the product roadmap.  Just tell us, yes or no.

  • Hi Brenda:

Is there any reason why the development of a proper and fully functional Outlook sync function for insightly can't be developed sooner, rather than later?

Outlook is an industry standard email system, therefore it would certainly make sense to bring the development of this function to the forefront, rather than just using vague terms.

  • All I can figure is that Insightly has some agreement, or some ideology, or some potential buyout with Google.  And that they do not want to make their product any more Microsoft "friendly".  It is obvious that they don't care about any type of Outlook sync.  It is NOT coming.

  • Hi Brenda,

Your comment seems a bit more encouraging. However, I hope that Insightly continue to work towards more developing a more efficient syncing mechanism and integration with MS Outlook, especially for Outlook in MS Office 365.

Insightly is a good product and there are a lot of loyal user willing to give feedback. In business there is a saying, "the customer is always right" , therefore, Insightly should listen to their customers and heed what they are saying. As one day, someone else may develop a product that does exactly what they have been asking Insightly to do develop for a long time

  • I would also like to see the feature that allows contacts to be sync'd between Insightly and both the desktop and web versions of Outlook (Home and Business would also be nice.)

  • Not to pile on here, but some level of contact syncing with Outlook 2010 (the desktop version of Outlook) is really a must-have feature. So many businesses use Outlook as the standard email.  Users expect contact information to sync across devices and platforms.  Basic syncing between contacts in Insightly and contacts in Outlook is needed. In case it is not clear, the sync should be two-way (no one expects to update a contact on iOS and have to update the contact again on Outlook).

I understand from this thread that contact syncing with Outlook is on the 2016 roadmap.  Please bump it up so that this feature is implemented sooner than later.

  • That is a MUST. Any updates on when the two way sync for MS Exchange will be available?

    Thank you.

  • Hi,

I understand most of you are asking for a native sync of Office 365 / Outlook.com Insightly contacts, but since this is not (yet) available, it is possible to do so with PieSync integration. Our plans start from 5$/month (depending on number of contacts you have in sync). You can find more information on Insightly's integrations page or on our website.

    Best, Grega

  • Greg:

Thanks for your suggestions and appreciate your help too.

However, my opinion is that I don't think this is something that subscribers to Insightly should be expected to pay for. A lot of subscribers have been asking Insightly to make their program sync with Office 365 / Outlook. It seems that they are only interested in making their product work with Google though and they are dragging their heels all the time. I think if they don't move on a bit with what their clients are asking for, then someone else is going to come up with a product, and they could end up losing a lot of clients.

    Best James

  • I agree 100% Michael.  But I think the push back stems from the fact that developers don't work in the real world or talk to real people.  Instead they think that the world is all digital when in fact a huge majority of us still deal with real live people in a real world.  I think the other issue is that they are busy trying to develop shiny things that will attract more customers - rather than worrying about retention or thinking about what people really need in a CRM.

  • Hello

We are evaluating this CRM and one of the most important feature we are looking for is the ability to sync contacts with Outlook. It is definitively a major deal breaker to a subscription.

This post is open since 2015, with a possible Sync launch in 2016 . It is now April 2017 is there a very high possibility for this to happening? and without using a paid third party?

I just cannot believe it is not there! Outlook is still the standard for businesses. None of the many major corporations we work with use Google. We are not going to change either.

Appreciate feedback from Insightly on this happening in the very near future or not. We do like the rest of what we have seen so far. Thanks!

  • I decided to cancel my subscription to insightly because of their reluctance to provide a solution to syncing data with outlook and Microsoft Outlook 365. It iswith great regret that I have had to cancel my subscription with Insightly, but I realise the situation is notgoing to change, as Insightly seem to believe that it is not an important update to make.
