Filtering Leads by Industry

There is an "Industry" field for Leads, but when I try to create a new filter, the Industry field does not appear on the fields list.  Should it?  Is there a reason it doesn't?

Thanks!

Tom

  • Thanks for bringing this to our attention!

I have passed this along to our product development team to see if we can add this option in the near future. I apologize for it missing.

  • I just hit this problem too.

I have ammailingt to go out to a specific industry and assumed that I could select it. I'm now stuffed.

  • Hi, I'm having the same issue - is this fix in the works?

    Thanks,

  • So, my original post about this issue was in August, and it's now almost January.  I know a little about database and UI design, and it doesn't occur to me that this would be a difficult thing to fix.  But I could be wrong.  Am I?

  • @Cameron & @Tom - Thank you for checking in. We don't currently have this feature on our road map but the feedback does help us see that this feature is important.

    We appreciate the feedback!

  • I'm gonna join the chorus asking for this feature. I'm on a trial and this is important to my decision to buy. The fact that a relatively simple fix isn't implemented in this amount of time is concerning...

  • I have to chime in again on this.  I would like Insightly to either:
    a) explain why this fix is so complicated and costly that they can't do it, or
    b) fix it.

    Thanks!

  • Hi Tom:

As you can imagine, we get lots of feature requests from our customers. While we wish we could add all of these great ideas to Insightly, deciding which ones to work on can be a challenge.

While filtering by Industry isn't available in the Custom Filters, you can create an Advanced Report using this field:

Here's a Video Tutorial on Creating Advanced Reports.

  • Lyla,

Thank you for the workaround, it seems like it should work for my needs at the moment, but for some reason the Industry filter doesn't work.

I've successfully generated reports by contact name, organization name, and other categories using the "starts with" and "contains" operation, but no combination of operation or search term works for Industry in my case.

    Thanks,

    Max

  • Hi Max:

What report type are you creating and what are your search criteria?

  • It is wrong to call this a feature request. The feature to filter already exists.

It is in fact a bug fix in that one of the key fields you should logically be able to select in this feature is missing from the list - making the feature useless to me, and it seems to others.

Tom Harris is right to ask - why is it not being fixed?

  • Great question Neil,

Hopefully this will provide some clarity. We consider a bug a feature or tool that does not work as designed.

Since we've added this to Advanced Reporting, we will not be implementing this feature request in Custom Filters at this time.

  • So when designing a CRM system, the "design" was to ignore filtering by industry?  Really?  That is astonishing.

  • You would expect to be able to filter on all fields in the leads view...

I tried to create an Advanced Report (Lead report) using the Industry-field but it doesn't work. No matter what I choose to filter (equal to, not equal to, contains, does not contain, starts with, is empty, is not empty) it doesn't return any records.

(I also earlier bumped in to the same problem trying to filter in an other advanced report but can't remember which anymore but probably it was the same Industry-field I tried to filter with).

I guess at least this is a bug, i.e. something that was designed to work but doesn't. High priority?

  • HI all,

I have just started using Insightly and tried to filter by industry. I too was confused by the lack of ability to filter by this critical field, however, I followed Lyla's advice and have successfully created a report that allowed me to filter by industry.

I then click on the lead link from that report to action that lead. While this is a workaround, I am happy to work within what Insightly offers given that I am using the "free" version.

However, after creating the report and seeing data, I then went back to the report to capture screenshots for this conversation. At that time, I received a blank report stating that the report returned no results. Bummer!

The report image is below. The filter is by industry and returns no data (but at one time it did). The second image is the same report design without a filter and you can clearly see that "Baby Clothes and Utilities" industry exists in the data. So there is a problem with the reporting and hence the workaround is not valid.

Lyla, can you please investigate and let us know?

    Thanks.

    Brett

  • Have you included this bug fix in any coming release soon? According to some of your answers you prioritize bug fixes to new features. But you have already released some new releases with new features without fixing this bug!

  • Hello Brett,

I am the resident advanced reporting expert and that I've just verified that filtering by industry should be working again for you. This looks like it was a temporary issue but after testing we haven't been able to duplicate it under your account. If you need any further help just let us know!

    Cheers,
    Alyssa

  • Hello -- I came to find an answer to this.  This has definitely not been fixed, and it's been almost a year that people have asked for this.. that's a little ridiculous.  It's SO simple to add.

  • Hi Martin:

This is working in our Advanced Reporting filters, are you seeing differently?

  • Another work around is simply to create a customized field.  However, I find it ridiculous that I can filter leads based on a customized field, but cannot filter based on a default field.  Just my opinion.....
