Is there any way to collapse or hide the Gmail sidebar? I have a 13" screen on my laptop and the sidebar takes up a lot of room, especially when I'm not actively using it.
I know there is a collapse button at the bottom of the Sidebar, but I can't reach it on my laptop. My minimum resolution is 100% so I can't shrink the screen enough to see it. Yes, I totally agree with Alejandro. The hide/show arrow needs to be on top.
Can you provide me with a screenshot of your screen where the collapse button doesn't appear? Also please answer the questions below to help provide you with a solution:
Hi Alejandro, looks like Customer Care received jbryson's response. I have it here:
Thank you for the quick response. I do appreciate that.
Here's my screenshot showing the sidebar open and no arrow to close it.
I'm using a laptop and the Google Chrome browser. The diagonal on my screen measures 15.5". The display setup is... I also have the Gmail screen set up for "compact"
Somehow someway, I've managed to close this before by some workaround, but I'll be damned if I can figure out what I did before. With the sidebar open, I have to use the horizontal scroll bar to see all of an email's display area. Needless to say, not convenient.
If you can suggest a work around, I can live with that.
I went ahead and removed your screenshot now for privacy reasons. I was unable to replicate the issue on my end by following the information you provided. I suggest we try having you uninstall and reinstall the Insightly Sidebar.
Here are the steps to uninstall the Insightly Sidebar:
To remove a Chrome extension, enter chrome://extensions/ in your address bar to access the Extensions page
Then click the trash can icon to uninstall an item.
Hi Alejandro, we received jbyrson's response in Customer Care, here it is:
I'm not sure why that would help. It's a matter of real estate on the screen. The sidebar is simply too long for the screen. You just can't get to the bottom of the tool bar to the arrow to collapse it. I uninstalled the Insightly toolbar and reinstalled it, but absolutely no change.
I did come up with a work around. I installed a larger side monitor. I can see it on that. Really truly the sidebar needs to have smaller icons and shrunk or the collapse arrow needs to be at the top.
I was able to replicate the issue by zooming in on my browser. This is when the bottom arrow to collapse the Insightly Sidebar was no longer accessible.
The browser I am using is Google Chrome. Can you try reducing your browser's zoom by using the shortcut keys "Control & Minus" for PC and for Mac "Command & Minus." I suggest doing it three times and then provide a screenshot of your screen.
Actually that DOES WORK! Thank you. I was changing the resolution on my Settings but that couldn't get it small enough. This worked. Thank for that little tip.

Never mind. I had the browser zoomed to 110% so the collapse/expand arrow wasn't visible.
Great to hear it was resolved Shawn!
I had the same issue, I almost uninstall the extension but I read this post. The hide/show arrow should be on top...
Thanks for sharing your suggestion, Alejandro.
