Lead Source In Contacts

It would be nice if there was a "lead source" field on the contact tab.  I mean it appears on the 'lead" tab so why not on contacts?  I still want to know how the contact originally found us!   I know you can go back and look under "converted leads" and see it (assuming you even entered the name as a lead to begin with) but why that extra step when it would be easy enough to have on the main contact screen?

  • Thanks for providing your feedback. In the meantime you can select to add it as a Custom Field under your Contacts.

  • I second this suggestions. As the data will be already there it makes sense for Insightly to carry it over when converting a lead.

It would also be nice to have to option to pick which tags the lead has to move them over to eight the contact or the company so that no valuable data is lost.

  • I third this suggestion. Being able to properly track the "lead source" life-cycle is a critical part of any CRM. If I want to track the sales performance by lead source to know how I am spending my time/energy/$ over a given period of time. For example, How many opportunities/projects/contacts/organizations were generated from ABC Exhibition or XYZ Partner or DEF Company? The lead source over the life-cycle of a given CRM input is a critical step in examining metrics for performance and time allocation. I would recommend this as a much needed data field to be carried over for any data entry or stage.

  • Any serious business wants to track sales performance.  Chaim said it beautifully!  PLEASE seriously consider this modification!

  • This is an absolutely essential.  Please make this modification a high priority!

In addition, I would also like to see any custom field created in the lead screen, also map to the same custom field in the contact screen.  Right now, I have an 'origin' field in "leads" as well as "contacts", however when the lead is converted this information does not transfer over.

  • Thank you for your additional feedback Justine. We don't have any updates for this on our road map; however your detailed information is extremely helpful for future updates.

  • Why isn't ALL leads info moved across to Contact and opportunities - all info should follow.  The answer from Insightly about no updates on the road map for this isn't much help at all.  This is fundamental. It doesn't make any sense.  It seems that the lead sources is the only thing Not moved across to a contact from leads.

And the solution to create a custom field in contacts is crazy as you can create a drop down box but have to add all the lead sources - doubling up of a list that already exists.

I haven't found this with any of the other CRMs we have been trialling - the info follows the Lead to the Contact to Opportunity to a Project - its always there.

  • The custom field suggestion doesn't work because even if you name the custom field "Lead Source", the data does not transfer when you convert a lead.  You have to go in and re-enter it.

  • I agree that the lead source should be a field on all contact records. It should also be available to map the lead source field to all other lead source fields on other record types. Lets vote this up!

  • AGREED! it's annoying to have to create a new custom field that has the exact same info another field already has. At the very list the option to match a system field to a custom field would be helpful!

  • Wow, I'm surprised this was brought up back in 2015 and as of Q1 2016 still wasn't on the roadmap. This is an essential function as already mentioned, so I won't beat a dead horse, but we really need this people. Please move forward with it already.

  • Seems like it would be really easy to add, I don't know why Insightly won't do it.

  • Hi I would really like this. Is this something that will be done in the future?

  • Just in case anyone is interested in my workaround, I created a custom field for lead source and configured it as a Drop Down menu. Of course, I have to maintain this and keep it update as new lead sources come about, but it's super helpful for many needs rather than not having it all.

I don't mind keeping it as a custom field except for the fact that we have no way to organize the sections and therefore, the fields in a lead record which is the real problem for us. I would like the lead source field to be higher up in the lead record rather than in the custom fields section. Has anyone else used this workaround in the meantime?

  • It's only good to use it as a custom field if you don't need more fields...that jump to upgrade to more than ten fields is astronomical if you have several users. That could be why they won't give it to us (forcing upgrades), or it could be harder to integrate with reporting features than we think. Either way, I think that custom fields should be reserved for industry-specific fields (like for insurance or real estate), and that a field like Lead Source, which is universally useful to all industries in any customer management system, should come as a basic feature. I'm voting it up!

  • I agree with Draught Busters and this whole thread.  The fact that Insightly doesn't migrate several key fields from the Lead record to the Contact record is a massive oversight in their product.  The fact that this thread has been around for 2 years is completely unacceptable.  I also agree that Insightly may be leveraging these issues in order to force higher tiers of service.  The bottom line is the lack of migration here puts the integrity of the data at risk.  It is a hole in the product and one that more marketers should be keenly aware of before suggesting clients should use this service.

  • Interestingly, I just noticed today that the location i.e. address for the lead is also missing once they're made a contact. Sometimes a targeted promotion is needed for a specific region perhaps because we're marketing an event to previous or existing clients and now I realize we're unable to do so because this data is missing too.

  • Convert Lead to Contact.  That is a feature of Insightly, right? So convert the lead, all of it, including Lead Source.

  • Any update?  I can't believe this isn't fixed?  Is there a "work around"?

  • I believe that the only work around is to create a corresponding custom field in leads and contacts that will convert over when the lead is converted.

  • Still no progress on this after 2-1/2 years?

  • I would still like to see this also. Because most of us use up our custom fields pretty quickly. Seems like custom fields should be used for things that are unique to an industry, not things that are universal to all industries.
