Option to make a few fields mandatory

Right now, only the last name field in Leads is mandatory, we should have an option to make more fields (provided by Insightly) or custom-created to be marked mandatory if necessary.

    Hello everyone, last week we released completely revamped Insightly System Settings. New design allows administrators add powerful customization to their page layouts, configure new types of custom fields and much more.

    Please head over to this article or watch this overview video to learn about all the new ways you can customize Insightly.

    And...the wait is over: you can now set your fields as required, hide them from view for certain users, make them appear read only or only display if they have data.

  • Indeed it's great a suggestion, without having mandatory steps in leads and opportunities it is likely that feed in information might get messy.

  • We have several users contributing to the creation of a client record--we need the ability to make both standard and custom fields mandatory so the resultant records will be complete.

  • Same here - I need the functionality to make every field required to make sure data is consistent across Organisations/Opportunities/Leads whoever fills in the record.

  • Thanks for the reply.  This is a simple feature that a lot of other CRMs seem to have (Sugar/SF etc).  We're a 2 man team at the moment but looking to expand rapidly in the near future where this feature will be come *required*!  If you could give an estimate for when this feature will be available that would be great.  Carl

  • I think that this feature is a must. we are having great difficulties due to the absence of this feature. The employees are not fully complying with filling out all the fields and this is affecting the reporting functionalities at the company. We are currently following on that manually. Please implement it as soon  as possible.

  • Could not agree more.  Have asked for this feature for a year now.  With a large sales team and stringent weekly reporting in a BI tool, this feature will make a BIG difference for us as we have weekly issues with sales reps missing a field here and there and then it doesn't show up in our BI tool correctly when we do weekly reporting on pipeline activities, etc.  How can we expedite this request as I am sure all users would love the ability to mark fields (original and custom) as "mandatory"

    A few things that are taken into consideration when prioritizing items are:
    -How frequently the feature is being requested by our customers.
    -How hard or easy it is to develop that feature.
    -How much value would be added with the addition of the feature.

    We’re continuously evaluating the features we offer and there’s some great stuff in the works. This feature isn't currently on our roadmap; however all suggestions and requests are reviewed by our team when deciding what direction to head in when adding new features. We'll make sure to keep the Community and this post updated on any new information made available for mandatory fields.

  • I have taken over the sales organization for a company using Insightly. I have, in the past, used Act, Salesforce, Sugar, Zoho and others. While being initially impressed, I'm starting to have grave reservations.

    CRM's are databases and as databases go, garbage in= garbage out. The fact you can't make fields mandatory renders all reporting highly suspect. As it stands right now, the reporting functions are useless because one has no confidence that all contacts or organizations will be captured due to no mandatory fields. People are people and will always take the shortcut. If they don't have to fill in a field when making an entry they won't.

    Please, if there hasn't been sufficient noise from users to prioritize this very basic function, ask us again. I reiterate that your reporting is pointless without mandatory fields.

  • J. I could not agree more (again) with your comment. I've just completed an 8 week sales program with our sales reps and the use of Insightly in our business is now even more focused. But every week I look at reports (extracted to Qlikview) with important fields not filled in. This is urgent!

  • we would appreciate it if at least you can add the mandatory fields to the custom fields that we create. for example:
    If I created a custom field, Just add check box that asks me If I want this custom field to be mandatory or not.
    in this case we can be sure that those fields will be filled without needing to track or losing any important and valuable information.

  • Any CRM I ever came across has the option to make fields mandatory. One year ago, you wrote:

    This standard answer is getting a bit on my nerves, sorry to say that. It seems nothing is done with this great suggestion. Any sales organization needs this, for example Marketing Campaign. If not mandatory sales people will forget but besides that. ALL other CRM's have this function. I am puzzled why such a great program like Insightly lacks this feature.

  • I am also waiting to 'hear' that this feature was added. Under 'Opportunity' - some people do not add the "Opportunity Value" and we really need this number to evaluate the scope of the projects. Thanks much!

  • I also need this feature and cannot believe it is not there already. It is essential and a 'standard' feature of all the other CRM tools I've used in the last 20 years. We've just subscribed in order to do a proper evaluation for our rapidly growing team, but this could be an early deal-breaker for me.

  • Hi - need the functionality to make certain fields mandatory else the quality of data in the CRM is really poor. Can you suggest the timeframe for this? Don't think this is such a drastic feature to include. The most vanilla CRM's come with this feature to make fields mandatory.

  • This functionality is much needed, data validation and quality is a big issue. Mandatory tag groups would also be useful(ie. Must have at least 1 from A to D, 1 from E to F, 1 from G to I).

  • Insightly team, we have all worked in tech companies and this isn't a super complex requirement to deliver on. Probably worth a weeks sprint worth of effort
