Outlook 2016

Hi, I was wondering whether you can integrate outlook 2016 with Insightly.

  • This is a critical feature that you cannot currently supply, when I purchased our licences I was under the impression that insightly integrated with outlook. We have just planned to migrate the entire office to 365, to find out that insightly doesnt integrate with this is a slap in the face.

I will say that from a customer relationship standpoint, putting the disclaimer:

Disclaimer: Any unreleased Insightly features referenced here are not currently available and may not be delivered on time or at all. Please make your purchase decisions based upon features that are currently available.

Is both worrying and insulting, I would rather you were honest about your inability to integrate if that is indeed the case.

  • Hi Kyle:

My apologies if our compatibility was unclear. I have also responded to you on your post here.

  • Hi, Are we any closer to this?

Having to email the CRM is very clunky... any address on the email chain gets added as an Organisation and linked, which I don't want.

Also an Outlook 2016/ Office 365 user.

    Thanks,

    Nathan

  • There are posts from Insightly representatives as late as February 29th that indicate it is still in the 'planning phase', which does not bode well for any sort of Q1 2016 release. I am more than a bit disappointed with the complete lack of progress or any attempt to provide a meaningful explanation of the delay or canned response that hasn't visibly changed in over 6 months. Discussions of project scope are at this point completely ridiculous, as the base functionality is not even in place -- people generally want Contacts, Tasks, and Calendar synchronization, the order of which these are implemented I don't believe anyone particularly cares about so long as there is visible progress and representatives are able to get their act together concerning the status. I would suggest picking one of these items and then doing the others incrementally, none of which takes 6 months of planning or development, before coming back with another ridiculous response concerning project scope.

While I do have a paid subscription for my company, we will certainly be evaluating other options in light of how Insightly representatives are handling both this matter and the lack of any functional backup solution, both of which competitors don't seem to have much difficulty with.

  • Hi all,

I mentioned I'd keep this thread up to speed and wanted to share where we currently stand. We were pulling to bring you an Outlook Integration in 2016 but after looking at our resources and comparing them to the prioritized list of items on the roadmap, we need to be realistic on what we can accomplish - and it is looking unlikely that we'll be able to deliver this request in the near future.

While votes are heavily considered when a prioritizing a request from the Community, and while this request only has 2 votes, Outlook will remain on the books.

We'll update you here should things change.

    Thank you for using Insightly!

  • Seriously?

You're dropping support for the current version of Office, the standard for businesses everywhere?

    Googling Anthony Smith, Insightly CEO:

"Smith spent six months building the first version of his CRM software, Insightly, in his home. Today, he serves as CEO of his SF-based company and is helping small businesses streamline their CRM processes."

How's dropping Office support aligned with "helping small businesses streamline their CRM processes"?

    Who's the product manager, please?

  • Hi Richard:

Please don't misunderstand us, we are not dropping support or plans for an Outlook integration. We know this is something this group is asking for and will continue working towards this. We just do not foresee it being likely by the end of this year.

  • Lyla, really sad to hear that - we thought we'd found our ideal CRM in Insightly. We'd outgrown Google Apps for Work and moving up to MS Exchange / Outlook felt like the standard upgrade path for a growing, professionalizing organization.

We're no strangers to CRM - we advise some large firms on it - and from that vantage point you guys are doing lots right. Congratulations.

I'm sad you won't be supporting Outlook for the foreseeable future; I've a feeling that between now and whenever in distant 2017 you get around to supporting it a lot more users will have made comments along similar lines.

I wish you guys the best and hope we can work with you again. Your UI is great - and the Outlook incompatibility issue aside we'd love to consider using you for some enterprise solutions going forward.

Let me know if you change your minds on this please.

  • Sorry to say, but this is very disappointing and ridiculous! How can any CRM worth its weight in salt not support Outlook?

I find having to email myself, and export and import CSV files extremely clunky and won't move to Google Apps just for Insightly!

  • Patrick & Lyla:

You mentioned that Outlook 2016 integration only had two votes on your Feature Request list... but given that most people don't know where that is and aren't familiar with how to do it, and given the number of people asking for it here and in other posts on this forum, you should count up all of comments as feature requests and give it a higher rating.

At the very least, you should reply to every post requesting a feature by pointing people (and giving the link) to your feature request site so people can vote for something they took the time to comment on.

  • Hi Richard. Thank you for the well wishes. We truly appreciate them and hope too, that Insightly can again be your CRM of choice in the future.

Hi Nathan. It's helpful to hear what your frustrations. Hopefully you read Lyla's comment, "We know this is something this group is asking for and will continue working towards this."

Hi Les. Thanks for your comment. We use the number of votes as a primary gauge because voting is so quick and easy and so many customers feel more comfortable voting than sharing a comment. However, votes are not the only thing we look at which is why this thread remains our central place to gather feedback and as Patrick mentioned, Outlook 2016 is still on the books.

Ideally, this platform would allow us to merge all related suggestions into one feature requests so there would be a voting aggregate but sadly that capability doesn't exist. Until then, it's best to name any feature request with the exact title, like Regina has done here, so that others can find it before submitting their own.

  • Hi Michael. Thanks for your question. You can vote for this request and any other requests that are important to you by clicking the up caret that's next to the title of the post. You'll see the number increase once you do.

If you'd like to see the feature requests that are currently trending, you can go to our Feature Requests topic here in the Community. There's a drop down filter at top that you can use to see post with recent activity, the most votes or the most comments. Hope this helps!

  • Hi everyone,

The intention is to still bring an update to Outlook. Our resources and priorities can shift quickly which can make specific release dates a moving target too.

Hopefully this update doesn't deter you from using Insightly's many features, free or paid.

  • To put this into perspective, below is a link to email client stats, compiled by a mail marketing platform provider. Keeping in mind that a lot of mail would be sent to 'consumer' mail accounts so the stats would be biased towards consumer mail clients...

    https://litmus.com/blog/february-2016-email-market-share-mobile-opens-climb-back-to-55

Outlook 2016 is far from being the most commonly installed version of Outlook, however, it would be fair to say that by later in the year we're going to see a lot more people impacted by the lack of 2016 support within Insightly. Insightly aren't alone here though - quite a few of their competitors have stumbled on 2016 support and have the same problems with a growing number of unhappy customers and lost sales.

Outlook support is special because it can immediately rule a CRM out from being picked up by a potential customer. I wonder whether the features that are being actively developed today by Insightly are going to have the same kind of influence on a potential customers decision.

Importantly for Insightly, I think they're going to find that a lot of current customers will be held back from upgrading to Outlook 2016 purely because of the Insightly support. The flow on effect for this can include the customer needing to hold back Office upgrades, Windows upgrades, hardware upgrades, etc. This will be incredibly bad for customer relations - and that weakening of customer relations has clearly already begun.

If only customers knew that they had to come to this web site to vote on a seemingly random posting in order to get visibility within Insightly product management...

  • Gathering customer feedback and strengthening relationships with our customers is important to us. This is why our Community was created. We've been grateful to those who have suggested these feature improvements that have been released such as Advanced Reporting, Contact to Leads, Custom Filters and Contact Cloning to name a few and Outlook 2016 is still something that we want to get out to you.

  • I have just signed up for the free version and have had problems integrating with Outlook 2016. Without this app working I will not be continuing and will be looking for an alternative solution. Seems like madness that this has not been resolved.

  • So, if you're looking for Outlook 2016 integration, look at the top of this thread and click the up button.

Also, I would think that the folks @ Insightly would look at all the threads around "Outlook 2016" and consider each one to be additional votes for Outlook 2016.

Also, you're up to 15 (now that people know to vote on threads).

  • I would sincerely suggest renaming this something that looks a little more representative. I definitely didn't know that this was the official 'vote' for this integration. It is a big sticking point for us as I sold the outlook integration as the main benefit of insightly, now we have committed and I have egg on my face as '365 integration' doesn't mean it syncs with 365 desktop clients, have had to ask microsoft to downgrade our download licences to outlook 2013 and pay an extra 2K in IT setup costs. Really, really annoying. I was going to scale insightly to 30 users, but the IT support cost involved in downgrading the office 2016 installs would just be too high.

Please sort this out, it should be priority number one as it is actually a rather large barrier to growth.

  • Again, my apologies if the requirements in the for Outlook were unclear, Kyle. I'm glad we were able to clear that up.

  • I think you guys really need to reevaluate the priority on this item. Since Patrick's post about this feature only having 2 votes, it now has 20 (at the time of writing)... This is a critical feature to workflow and outlook/office 365 is an industry standard. This is a huge productivity killer.
