Notification of new lead generation

Hi,

We're trying to combat spam submissions with our Insightly web to lead form...

We've already been told that Insightly does not have any anti-spam tools for their web to lead forms.

So we have purchased Ninja forms "Insightly add on" and have successfully integrated it.

It works great, but here's the issue. When a new lead or contact is created with this add on form no notification is sent via email from insightly.

Is there a way to make this happen? Can we set up insightly to send an email whenever a new lead is created?

Please help

    Roman,

You might also want to look at using the Insightly web API in combination with anti-spam tools such as Akismet, and email delivery tools like Mailgun.

Akismet looks at the submitter's IP address and other data, and returns a spam/not spam response. It's generally quite reliable, and does not force the user to deal with a Captcha test. (Google's ReCaptcha tool is quite good, but a bit trick to implement).

Mailgun enables you to send email via a simple REST API call, so if you need to send notifications, that's a good way to do it. See www.mailgun.org

Any other questions, just let me know.

  • Hi Chris,

Were you able to find any type of solution? I am trying to get the application to send an email notification anytime a new lead is generated.

    Thank You,

  • Hi Chris - Let me look into this for you and you'll get an update through this post!

Hi there Roman - Are you looking for the same add on that Chris is? Or are you specifically looking for a notification through Insightly when a Lead is generated?

I am looking for something that will specifically send an email notification whenever a new lead is generated.

  • @Roman - Our webforms offer that type of notification.

Webforms are available in Insightly through our Web to Contact or Web to Lead feature. This feature allows Insightly administrators to build an HTML form you can place on your website, and when visitors enter their information, Insightly will create a record for you. You can see more details about this feature including how to set it up, on our Knowledge Base article - Using Insightly's Web to Contact or Web to Lead webforms

Hope this helps. Let us know if you have any other questions.

  • Engineering,

The question that I have is:

Can Insightly send me a notification email every time a new lead is created? I am using the API and not the webform.

    Thank You,

    Roman

  • Hi Roman,

Insightly does not send notifications when objects are created via the API. The best way to do this is to use an email delivery service like Mailgun to generate these messages. (Sending an email via Mailgun requires a simple POST request to their API).

  • Hi Roman,

We had a similar need but maybe for different reasons. Our web to lead form was better at capturing spam submission than interested customers.

We have a Wordpress site and wanted to capture leads and have a notification via email when they were submitted. Because of the constant spam we were receiving we needed some sort of anti spam tool incorporated into the form.

We found our solution using Ninja Forms and their Insightly Add-On. Our server did not have email services enabled so we were able to have our emails sent by integrating with Mandrill and the WPMandrill plugin for Wordpress.

Honestly it took me a ton of time to figure out this combination. So I wrote up a quick blog post to help others in a similar situation. I know how frustrating it can be to hunt for a solution. I hope this helps you.

And if your interested you can read my post here:

    Good luck!

  • Hi Roman,

To add to Brian's comment Mailgun is probably your best option. One thing you could do through our API is to add a follow-up Task with REMINDER_DATE_UTC set and a TaskLink pointing to the Lead. This should send you a notification when the date comes due. I would recommend setting it at least 5-10 minutes in the future.

  • exactly.  we have 25 sales reps and want to use Insightly to automatically input leads from website.  Need a way for that to be automatically communicated.

  • Hi Toanderson,

Thanks for your comments on this issue. Web to Lead would help with your sales rep entering the data. Chris was concerned with not receiving notifications; however there were some workarounds he could use. Were you having the same issue?

  • I would like to vote for a notification to be sent whenever a lead is assigned to a team member.

  • We also would like to vote for a notification to be sent whenever a lead is assigned to a team member. I've placed many leads into someones name whom is remote and part time, but they've never touched them because the system doesn't notify them. This is pretty standard in other CRM's.

  • I am a new insightly customer, and while setting it up, I have been headbanging on this topic. Are there any plans for insightly to improve the notification functions (mentioned above)? i come from a help desk background and i am dismayed that i can't just set basic notifications for general inbound email. Every tool i have ever used ALWAYS has that...why doesn't insightly? Not trying to throw rocks or shade...i just think it's a real deficiency. I know there is a workaround thru ninjaforms etc but in my opinion there should be inbound traffic notifications and also lead assignment notifications built into the product. am i missing something?!?

  • Hi Nicholas:

Thanks for the constructive feedback, hoping I can address some of your concerns.

    • We do send an email notification when a Lead is created and then assigned to another user.
    • We also send an email notification when a Lead or Contact is created through Insightly's webforms.
    • I know you're interested in being notified for each inbound email. We don't currently have this but you can submit this to our Ideas & Suggestions area so other customers can vote on it.

    Thanks.
