Subtasks (where is it)

Hello There,

All my projects must have sub-tasks.

Almost every project management system I tried has sub tasks under tasks.

Very strangely I cannot find such a feature with this. Without creating sub tasks, I'm unable to do much in the project area.

Can you please advise what's the story with it? Thanks

  • Hi Miles,

After you save your Project, you will see a sub-heading for information related to your project including Tasks.

You may also be interested in our pipelines and activity sets to help automate the creation of those tasks and events that are commonly used in your workflow.

I hope that helps. If you're looking for something a little different, please let me know!

  • need to be able to easily use activity sets with milestones. in many projects there are multiple set of overlapping tasks which the pipeline doesn't address. I think the milestones capability really doesn't get the attention it deserves!

  • Hi Erin,

Thanks for the reply. That is not what I'm after. Inside a task I should be able to create sub tasks and that those sub tasks can be assigned to other people in that team.

It's a very important part of project management.

  • The ability to add tags to tasks would go a long way toward the hierarchy Miles is requesting. However, until we can set predecessor/successor relationship then Insightly won't be able to address the broader project management issues required of a full system

  • We are looking for a solution now and we need to have the ability to have sub-tasks as the original poster mentions (or at least be able to group tasks by category).  Are there any plans for either of these capabilities?

  • Hi everyone:

One of the future initiatives is to overhaul the Task segment of Insightly, towards the end of 2016. It will be at that time that we'll be able to see what improvements can be made and we'll definitely keep you updated if anything changes.

Thank you for showing your support for the option to add sub-tasks to your Task records!

  • Hi Lyla, thank you for the update. I would certainly echo Miles' request for sub-tasks, aka, dependencies. Akin to that is the idea of checklists. It would be very helpful to be able to create a task, and within that task, be able to create a checklist of items that are needed in association.

    EX:

Purchase items for setting up the network at <client>

    • raceway
    • 16 1' CAT6 patch cords
    • 16 7' CAT6 patch cords
    • wall mount for switch

Is the end of 2016 still a realistic time frame?

  • Thank You Micheal, finley someone else who is putting together a load list.  I remodel kitchens & bathrooms and making a checklist of the items to be purchased or loaded is a big deal.  Pocket Informant does a good job with tasks but lacks scores of other features for collaborative project management.

Checklists and Subtasks are both important. For my company checklists would be more help.

  • Curious if this sub-task feature is imminent since you originally mentioned the end of 2016.  We are looking at new project management software right now and would prefer to use Insightly since we have been using your software for some time.  Do you have any updates on an overhaul of Tasks Lyla T?

  • Yes, I am also looking for a sub-task as well as a way to easily duplicate.

  • +1 for sub tasks. Any update now that we're well into 2017?

  • I must say that we have now moved on from worrying about these Sub Tasks and will not be using the Project Management features of Insightly and instead have chosen Teamwork Projects to manage all of our Tasks.

  • Any updates on this?  I see a could threads talking about the need of subtasks.  I am also interested in subtasks as well, and would love to have 1 solution to manage both my client base and projects.
