Graphical integration of 3rd party tools into Insightly interface?

I'm in discussion with a partner to develop a tool which accesses data via API. No problem so far.

But how can we add a

  • link
  • function bar icon
  • menu entry
  • ...?

to run a custom function or at least open our tool in an iFrame like Google Drive file picker does?

  • Probably the best way to do this is to write a script that serves as an API proxy (we do not support CORS requests via the API), then you have whatever UI code you want interacting with the API.

Thanks! Any other questions let me know.

  • Interaction with API is not the problem.

I want to add a graphic element to Insightly GUI like a button. Any code examples available?

  • Holger,

We do not have any code examples for this unfortunately (we typically discourage users from making changes to the main web UI since this can change as we add and update features).

My suggestion would be to look at what we did with the Google Chrome Sidebar. If you do something like this, that sidebar/widget can communicate with the Insightly API in parallel with whatever is being done in the main web pane (and if there is a change to the Insightly UI, it won't break the layout of your widget).

    That would be my recommendation.

    Thanks,
