Linking Leads with other Records

Could it be possible to link leads with other records (including other leads?)

It would be helpful if we could see a connection between our leads and our existing clients/prospects.

    Hello everyone, last week we released completely revamped Insightly System Settings. New design allows administrators add powerful customization to their page layouts, configure new types of custom fields and much more.

    As a part of this latest release we introduced a new custom field type: Lookup Relationship. A lookup field is a one-way link to another object. Users can search and select a record from the field.

    • Related To - Choose the object that you want users to connect to. For example, if the field is "Manager", you would link to the Contact object. If the field is "Networking Event", you would link to the Event object.

    To configure a Lookup Relationship field for Leads head over to new System Settings > Objects and Fields > choose Leads and create this new custom field from there. Here is an article that can help you: https://support.insight.ly/hc/en-us/articles/360002660373

    Leads are typically viewed as temporary record types within the Insightly system since they're meant to later be converted. This is why they don't have as many functions available as say a contact or organization record type. 

    I can totally understand the need for linking, though, so I appreciate you taking the time to suggest that great feature!

  • Leads aren't necessarily temporary, and may be a lead for a prolonged period for multiple opportunities. Leads need to be able to be linked to multiple opportunities and other leads, ex. a group of leads that approaching an opportunity, or multiple opportunities at the same time. This is a stumbling block that forces us to mix leads into contacts with custom fields and tags to back the leads out of contacts. So, I would vote infinity times to have the links and why not add it, if you don't need it, don't use it. Also, showing your lead list in lead rating, rank order (or the ability to choose to do so) w/o going to reports would be appreciated.

  • It would be great to link leads (at least) with organizations. In that way it would be much easier to know which contacts are 'real' and which ones are only leads for a specific organization.

    My prospecting process doesn't start with leads, it starts with organizations.

    Ideally it would be:

    Create organization record and qualify it -----> if it's a suitable prospect, create lead record and link it to the previously created organization ---> start the prospecting process and try to convert it.

    Because it's not possible to link a lead to an existing organization, all I can do is start the pre-qualification process in Excel.

    But the reason I want a CRM is to to get rid of spreadsheets completely....

  • I also would agree to this needed function. It should not be a hard addition since you already have that function in another area and would greatly assist us in the Realestate industry as our leads can take sit in that position for a long time before they convert and at this point we are having to have two different leads for the same task when a couple is buying or selling. Not a good use of time with a crm. Thanks Bill

  • This a real issue for us, and could become a deal-breaker.  We need to link leads to organizations.

  • Hello Insightly? Is anything happening with this, it's becoming increasingly problematic to not have this functionality and be using custom fields in contacts to create a link-able leads work-around?

    An example of how we would use this function:

    We used Insightly for our Real Estate development and builder clients. We collect online leads through forms. But people can sign-in at one of our home models. In many cases, they are brought to the model home by their realtor. We want to capture the lead of the potential home buyer but also link a contact (the realtor) to the lead. We have to legally do this so we know that realtor gets a commission of the sell is that lead eventually buys a house. Right now we just make every cold lead an opportunity so we can link the realtor to the opportunity. But this doesn't serve us well since we taint our opportunity pool with cold leads.

  • OK SO I commented on this well over a year ago... we have all commented in here about the ability to link a lead to an existing organization.   Can we PLEASE add that functionality... It would be a big time saver and avoid duplication and missed emails.  I have been in sales over 12 years here and old leads/organizations are becoming leads again.  

    HOW DO WE ACTUALLY GET THIS CHANGED?  Seems like an obvious fit and I can't imagine why we wouldn't want to have more information and a history linked to our leads.. 

    Can someone from insightly please advise on how to go about getting this changed?

  • The ability to link leads would be huge. I have large groups of leads, and a lot of them are branches that attach to a parent company (that's sometimes a lead and sometimes an organization). If I could link them together, then all of the branches would be tied to the parent company (1 link), and the parent company would be tied to the branches (many links).

    I know the alternative is to create a tag for each parent company, but I would be looking at creating several hundred to start, and that creates a mess to sort through.

  • Bump.. just like everyone else, I would love this feature. I, like others, am in Real Estate. We dont typically have to go through dozens or hundreds of leads- you can make a living juggling a handful of deals each month and no more.  The source of your lead is as important as the lead itself, if not more so. I just dove headlong into Insightly last week and I'm entering some leads, but I cant connect them to the person that sent them my way!! unbelievable!! and even if i Tag or create a custom field, that info gets lost when they convert. 

    As I see it, i should just stop with the leads, and only create contacts. then, assign the connection to the referral partner and use a TAG (like Fall2017) so that i can keep the group of leads together.

  • Please allow contact to become leads... it seems obvious that a persons name and contact info would be part of how a lead would be created.. its odd for it not to be... and stops us from using leads as a key part of our process

  • How can we get this request actioned? It's been 2 years since first requested and is definitely an essential feature for many users. For example when working with business introducers, we need to ability to link a new lead to the introducer's organisation. How can we escalate to get this resolved?

  • We also need leads to be a part of the entire reporting funnel.  Currently we can not follow a lead through conversion, opportunity, and then to a project in a report.  If someone starts as a lead, wouldn't everyone want to know what percentage that completed a project and the value of that project?  There is no report that crosses over leads, opportunities and projects.   I want a report that tells me % leads converted to an opportunity, then % that were won, then % that completed a project.

  • I agree that the ability to link a lead to a contact person or organization is crucial since if you don't link them from the start you may never remember who referred you to that person as time passes. So that linkage needs to be made right from the start.

  • Hello!

    We are noticing that this is still an outstanding item, and we are not able to link our leads with organizations.  Is it possible to get this functionality?  It makes it hard when working in the lead without that link. We would prefer to have the contacts as the full contact base for our company, and then to utilize leads as the potential to translate into an opportunity but not lose all the information when converted to a lead.  I hope that we can get this functionality soon!
