Remove Gmail gadget

Hi.

I am using the new sidebar - which works well for me. The gMail gadget is thus superflous. Hence the question:

Is there a way to remove the gMail gadget without fully disabling insightly (which obviously is not an option)?

Tnx

p.s.: I use an Google Apps account

  • Hi Alex, thank you for your post!

Right now it's not possible to remove the Insightly Gmail gadget from your Gmail account at this time. We're working on that with Google. When we discover a solution, we'll do our best to let you know. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience.

    Thank you!

  • Thanx!

Not an inconvenience, really - just me being nitpicky...

  • I have the exact opposite problem, I have lost the gmail gadget and now can only seem to use the sidebar which I do not like anywhere near as much. It requires extra steps I really don't want to do for every project, like picking a pipeline etc.  How do I get rid of the sidebar and restore the gmail gadget from before. Thanks.

  • Hi @Geoffrey,

The gadget has been temporarily disabled at this time. We will update you here once we have it up again :)

  • Was there any notifications or option to opt out of this change? I'm stunned that this was done without letting the users know, this definitively doesn't make me feel comfortable or confident in investing more time and energy into your CRM if functions that I've gotten reliant on are just removed with no notification.

I already use multiple sidebar extensions for gmail (Sidekick, Rapportive, etc) and cannot use another sidebar, I really need my gadget back that appears at the bottom of emails!

I'm not the only one who is going to be seriously upset by this sudden change... It's a Monday and my CRM has been essentially broken all day.

  • Hi Geoffrey,

The gadget being disabled today is a temporary side effect from this morning's outage.

We will give plenty of notice before retiring it completely.

  • Great! I'm feeling better already, please don't retire it completely with only a sidebar as a replacement, many people don't have space for another sidebar in gmail.

  • I'm still missing the gadget :(, is there a way to reinstall/reset?

  • @Geoffrey - Sorry to hear that!

If it's still missing, we offer some options in the following article that might help you reset it: Gadget is not appearing in my Google Apps Gmail

Another option is to clear your browser cache. If you are unsure how to do this, the following page includes instructions on how to clear the cache on all popular browsers: How to clear cache and cookies.

You can also try using Insightly in a different browser to see if the behavior changes. We recommend Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox.

    I hope this helps!

  • I too would much rather prefer the gadget vs. the sidebar. I recently signed up fro Insightly and have a Google Apps account but haven't been able to get my gadget to work yet.

This is what it's showing me:

I'm logged in to Insightly within the same browner (firefox) and even tried in Chrome to no avail.

    What's causing the disconnect?

  • @Jason - The reason you're seeing that message is because you're logged into your email using a Non-Google Apps email account. The Gmail Gadget only works with Google Apps accounts.

    I hope this helps!

  • @Jessica M.

I am a google apps user and am signed into that account (and no other account) in Firefox. What else could it be?

  • @Jason - I see an account that was established with Insightly pretty recently associated with the login that you're using for the community and it's a Non-Google Apps account for Insightly. If you have a Google Apps address, you have to establish the account type when creating the Insightly account.

Since the account is still fairly new, you can delete it and start fresh with an Insightly for Google Apps account instead.

Please let me know if you need any further assistance with that process!

  • @ Jessica M.

Thanks. I'm on the trial as I was trying it out with XERO. I'll delete and start over.

  • I agree with the original post.  I would really like to be able to disable the 'in-email' feature since I use the sidebar exclusively.  PLEASE make that an option!

    Thank you!

  • I am getting a very annoying message at the bottom of every email that I want to remove. I had this fixed when I was using Chrome, but have now started using Microsoft Edge and the annoying footnotes have reappeared. How do I get rid of them completely?

  • Hi Darren,

It looks like you're facing the same issue Jason was up above.

You're logging into your email using your Non Google App Standard account; however Nicolas Smith created a Google App account using your same domain which is linked to the gadget.

I would suggest uninstalling Insightly from your Google Apps.

  • Thanks Nora,

yes you are correct that is what's happening. However, I should have mentioned above, I don't want to uninstall Insightly completely. I just want to stop the footers on every email, Its incredibly annoying, and unfortunately makes a great app look amateurish.

  • Hi Darren,

The Google Apps is linked with the gadget so you can't have one without the other.

  • That's really unfortunate. We just wanted to test the app and were likely going to sign up a paid account, but the involuntary inclusion of this gadget during testing is not only unwanted but enough to make us uninstall it without even trying the app. Something that affects every users' view in every email without them knowing what it is or what it's for should be optional IMO.

  • Hi Geoff, we understand completely and are working with Google to find a way to do this. We will let you know when we do!

  • Sorry WHAT?

Did someone say it's not possible to remove the darn thing?   Seriously?

And this wasn't tested before launch because....?  ;)

  • Hi simon:

The gadget was built as part of Google Apps and we found that we could create a more versatile tool with the Sidebar. The gadget is linked to Google Apps and we are working with Google to find a way to remove it. Both tools can be used at the same time without any trouble.

  • I'm also trying to remove the Insightly Gmail Gadget from my Gmail account to no avail. I've uninstalled it from my Google Apps admin area (I registered for Insightly with a Google Apps account, and am logged in under my Google Apps account when I remove it). I've also tried fixing it from the Insightly side, going into the Integrations area in System Settings. But clicking on "View All Integrations" only takes me back to the Insightly main login page where I'm prompted to sign in again (a bug?). I've also uninstalled the Chrome sidebar extension, though I assume the Gadget and Sidebar are unrelated.

I see the last reply in this thread is 5 months ago. Is there any way to remove this now? If not, will deleting my Insightly account solve this?

    Thanks.

  • Hi Tim:

When cancelling Insightly you will need to delete the Insightly database and then remove the app from Google Apps too.

Can you share a screenshot of your Google Apps dashboard showing that Insightly has been removed? To get here log in to your Google Apps Console> Click Apps> Go to Marketplace Apps:

  • Hi Lyla,

Here you go. As it turned out, it just took a little while to refresh. Or I had to log out and log back in or something. But it's uninstalled now. Oddly enough, after I deleted it, not only did the Gadget stay in place for a while, but became operational for the first time! Glad it's gone now though. Thanks for your help in following up.
