I can't save an email using the Insightly side bar

Hi! I just signed up with Insightly and I am starting to love it because it combined CRM and project management with linkages to Google Drive and Evernote. However, when I installed the Insightly sidebar for Gmail, I couldn't save an email to Insightly as demonstrated in the video. Instead, I still have to forward the emails manually. Is there anything wrong with the sidebar? Please let me know. Thanks!

  • Hello Issa, thank you for your post!

Are you able to see the buttons to save? Can you click on them?

There are a couple of different ways to save emails with the sidebar, which button are you using to save?

    Thank you!

  • Yes, I've seen the Insightly logo with a drop-down arrow that says Save and Link but whenever I click on it, nothing happens. I'm waiting for it to turn grey but it didn't. Also, I saw another Insightly logo beside Send at the bottom but when I tried to click on it, nothing happened as well. I also tried the sidebar, but I couldn't see anything that would mean "save".

  • Great news - This has been fixed!

Your Gmail should update automatically but you can double check that you are on the updated Version 1.7.61.2 by clicking the life preserver icon on the left.

If you're not on this version a hard refresh (Ctrl+R) should get you there :)

  • I'm having the same problem. I'm in version 1.7.61.2 and I uninstalled and reinstalled the sidebar. Nothing happens when I click the button or the "save and add link" drop down. I've used insightly before and would really prefer this to forwarding everything to get up and running with my new company, but no luck with the button. Advice? Thx.

  • Hi Jeremy:

Are you using any other extensions with the Sidebar? If so, you might want to disable other extensions (such as Boomerang) to see if this is what may be causing the conflict. You can also try to allow the Sidebar to function in incognito mode, or remove the Sidebar and reinstall it.

Please let me know the outcome :)

  • Hi Lyla - the only other Chrome extensions are a few core Google extensions (Docs, docs offline, sheets, slides, application launcher for drive). The Sidebar itself is working great, it's just the email save button (of course) that isn't. The only thing I can think of is that there is an Insightly Gmail Gadget box that still shows up from a previous attempt at saving emails, even though I deleted the Google Apps account that it was attached to. It just shows the header "

    Insightly Gmail Gadget"

and the login request "User not active. Please login to Insightly before using this gadget."

Also, the send and save button works, just not the save button or the "save and add link" drop down.

I uninstalled and reinstalled the sidebar (didn't work), and I enabled it to work in incognito mode, but the button doesn't work there either.

    Thanks very much,
    - Jeremy

  • Hi Jeremy:

Can you summarize your clicks/steps for us? We've tried to replicate through testing but aren't getting the behavior you're describing. Please let us know what browsers you've tried on, screenshots are helpful too.

Thank you so much for your  help on this!

  • Hi Lyla,

    Here's my Chrome info...

I'm logged into the sidebar, and the other features work fine...

But here's the problem I'm having...

Absolutely nothing happens when I click on those. Most frustrating, as you can imagine. Note the Insightly Gmail Gadget box still shows up in my emails. I can't figure out how to get rid of it, despite having deleted the Google Apps Insightly account that it was associated with.

    Thanks for any advice.

  • Hi Nipuna,

The only difference I can see is that I still have an "Insightly Gmail Gadget" box showing up above the "reply" gmail box. I deleted the Google Apps Insightly account that I used to create the gmail gadget, but the box still shows up. Maybe you can advise about how to (further) uninstall the old gmail gadget and we can see if that works?

    Thanks,

    - Jeremy

  • Hi Jeremy,

It seems like the issue is not related to gmail gadget. Our developers are actively looking at the issue and will update you as soon as we get the fix.

    Thank you for your patience!

  •  Hi Issa & Jeremy,

I am one of the engineer who is accessing the issue and I have few questions.

    1. Do you get the google accounts windows when you first click on the 'IN' button or 'Save and Add Link' menu for the first time?

    2. If you did agree to the access permission to google accounts (above), do you see the "spinner" after clicking on the 'IN' button or 'Save and Add Link' menu?

    3. What is the time zone setting of your local computer?  Click on the clock (bottom right corner and click on Change date and time settings).

    Thank you for your patient.

    Regards,

    Kevin

  • Thanks Kevin -

I don't get any Google Apps message. Absolutely nothing happens when I click "IN" or "save and add link".

I'm on a Mac OS X El Capitan (10.11.2) running Chrome. Here are my time zone settings:

    Thanks,

  • Hi Jeremy,

Thanks for your quick response.  This is strange that you don't get any google windows to prompt for security.  The reason why google windows must prompt is because the sidebar is accessing your gmail account to save email into insightly.  I assume there is no pop-up blocker (would show on the address bar) when clicking on the 'IN' button.

If you don't mind, let's do a deeper investigation to find out what happens behind the scene at your convenience.  Here is how.

    1. Open any gmail message, right-click and click on the Inspect
    2. Click on the Clear button to clear any old messages if any
    3. Click on the Filter button
    4. Click on the Error text to show only error messages
    5. Click on the 'IN' button or 'Save and Add Link' menu.
    6. If there is any error messages (red text), let's take a screenshot and send to us.

    Happy Holidays!

    Regards,

    Kevin

  • Hi Jeremy,

After looking into the errors, it is possible that the sidebar is conflicting with other extensions in the chrome. I know you mentioned that you only have few google extensions installed.  So, I would suggest disabling all extensions, except sidebar in the chrome, then test the sidebar.  If that works, then you can enable one extension at a time.  Can you tell me exactly the list of extensions you installed?

Have you tried sidebar in different computer (Mac/PC)?

    Thanks,

    Kevin

  • Hi Kevin,

That didn't work - I'm still getting the error. I can't help but think this is related to the Insightly Gmail GADGET that still shows up (see screenshot from December 18) and if you could tell me how to remove that successfully then I'd be able to get the SIDEBAR working.

Anyway - here are the screenshots:

    Then disabled all...

Then re-enabled Insightly and tried the button again...

    Thanks,

    - Jeremy

  • @Jenine - Hi, Insightly had a scheduled downtime this Saturday for a couple of hours which is likely what caused the issue in the Sidebar. Hope you are able to save emails now.

  • Hi Maria

No it is not yet fixed. I use a mac and no matter what for the past 4 days nothing happens when I click on the button to save the email or when I go to save link - I can add new contacts however from gmail. This is frustrating so I appreciate your prompt response.

  • Hi Nora - yes I can but when I click on save and addlink it does nothing. I cannot get it to save emails to the recent emails tab on the right. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the extension. How do I update the version of the sidebar extension?  I have Version: 1.7.76

  • Hi Jenine,

1.7.76 is the latest version of the extension. Which version of Chrome are you using? Do you have any other extensions installed?

Also, please try the following in the meantime:

    - Refresh the page using Cmd+Shift+R (hard refresh)

    - Restart the browser (if you haven't already)

    Thanks for your patience!
