UI/UX Upgrade?

Do you have any plans to update and upgrade the user interface?  Honestly, we love the feature-set, but we're about to stop using the tool because the interface feels so dated and clunky.  I assume you're working on something more js heavy and modern?

  • Hi Jeff! So glad to hear you love our feature-set. We do have two major UI improvements slated to start in 2016 - one regarding list views and the other regarding Pipeline visualization. Thanks for asking!

  • I completely agree with Jeff. Today I got quite frustrated with the user interface in general and the lack of customization that I started looking for other solutions. Please talk to your developers and involve a UI/UX designer to provide a product-wide upgrade.

I spent an hour on the phone with someone from Agile CRM this evening. They're based in India, have the same $15/user/mo starting price, and have a great UI. I'm tempted to switch but I'd rather stick with Insightly if you will do something about the user interface. Not just a few changes in specific sections of the app, but throughout the entire thing.

  • I agree that the UI needs to be updated, I spent 2 days exploring other CRM's and honestly Insighlty is the only one that provides everything my company needs in one (Leads, Opportunities, Projects, Activity sets, Contacts) but all the other CRM's interfaces were much better. When I look at my projects tab I am overwhelmed with all of the text and even though I love the Project Timeline I cannot tell where I am at in those projects because the stages are highlighted but no text. I really want to take a quick glance at my projects and see where I am at. Here are some great examples:  https://dapulse.com   https://asana.com

  • Katie, you're so right! I love Insightly's features and the feature set is the main thing that has kept me from switching to another CRM. That being said, I have also looked at many other CRMs and many of them make work easier by having a better UI.

Insightly team - don't take this the wrong way - I like your product, but to keep customers you need to stay on top of your game and remain competitive! Capsule CRM is a great place to start looking for UI ideas. As I've said in my previous comment, Agile CRM is also a great example.

To the CEO of Insightly - I honestly believe you could capture a much bigger portion of the market if you would upgrade your entire UI (not just small changes here or there) and change your marketing strategy to be more aggressive and show customers of other CRMs what they're missing. BUT - you need to improve the UI first and involve an experienced UI/UX designer. I studied graphic design and I know my former professors could refer great people (also, you're based in SF so it shouldn't be hard to find someone good).

Also consider offering an integration with Ryver or Slack (I wouldn't be surprised if Ryver surpasses Slack in a few years though).

  • Hi all:

We do realize that improvements can be made to our UI and we are still on track for the Pipeline visualization as mentioned above. We'll be looking into what other UI/UX updates can be made too! Thanks for the providing examples of what you have seen and like from other services!

  • I totally agree also. Actually I stopped using Insightly several years ago because of this interface you introduced. It was never a good interface, even when you brought it in you destroyed some of the most power usability items in the last interface and brought something in less efficient, albeit faster in terms of load times. let me give examples here....

    1. You have a totally empty right hand column taking up 20% of the screen to display fairly useless social media icons. Then you display one of the most important things - RELATIONSHIPS - below the fold, making me scroll every screen i go to to look at.Relationships were always one of Insightlys strong points, why you put them below the fold in the new interface was beyond understanding!!

    2. Here's a tip for a really useful improvement - In the history list - make it more condensed and allow me to load the entire item and stay on the same screen so that i can easily review historic events to get the full picture - currently it takes me to an un-contextual details page for the item where i must clunkily find my way back to History page and find where i was.

    3. Field sorting and ease of access to view custom fields

    4. Task management in insightly is impossible for many reasons, I would rework this completely and dedicate it to tasks associated with CRM activities primarily as its impossible to use it for much more than a simple personal task list and i feel for those using it for more complex purposes.

The interface is very worrying its like a beta interface that hasn't been improved since you released it. There's many many bugs with the interface too - its just really crude, I really hope theres a plan to either improve or totally re-design it, perhaps with more forethought regarding usability.

I better end this rant on a good note: I think Insightly is 80% off being an unbeatable CRM for small business and over the last 5 years I have used several others and reviewed most and despite its shortfalls and the fact time has stood still for over three years (eg: very few productive updates, relatively speaking, compared to the competition), Insightly is currently my CRM of choice.

I beg you, if you do update or change interface again, dont destroy anything thats really great about your system now - eg: quick to find and create objects, its simple, leads are good; and i also like how you deal with companies and contacts. Many many simple but important improvements could be made to these areas though. Hoping you guys are moving forward as ive just spent a massive amount of time moving back here and nothing has changed...

PS -  I know many like how you have everything all in one - (projects, tasks, crm) but for me, since I discovered Wrike for projects, there NEVER be anything that comes close and theres also many others in this Project/tasks area light years ahead of you guys. If I was you I'd concentrate on the CRM (leads, contacts, companies, opportunities, comments, crm related tasks/events, email integration, etc), its really not that far off being an awesome CRM, what i can see is all fairly simple but big gain improvements (mainly ui/ux) which always made me wonder why they were never put in. PS - Your mobile apps are really not very good, these need a lot of work.

  • Completely agree with everything said above especially Chris and James.  It's so difficult to convince staff to use the program when it looks so outdated (like a high school IT project) and has so many limitations on great functions.

    I'd also add:

    1. bulk ticking and filtering of task list.

    2. projects that show the linked organisation/contact and the ability to move between project stages from within the project task list ie. 'load next stage' rather than about>change stage>select stage>ok>return to task list.

    3. a useful home dashboard showing upcoming overdue tasks/ upcoming events / recent activity (incl comments and changes to tasks etc) / my open projects / my open opportunities.   I don't know about the others but I don't use the Home page AT ALL - it provides no benefit to me or staff.
