Advanced Reporting has launched!

Insightly is launching our next generation of reporting.   Thanks to those of you in the community that have participated in our beta program and given us feedback.  This version of reporting allows users to create custom tabular reports through an easy to use design using drag and drop.  Our focus with this version is to deliver the capability to create custom reports, because user feedback indicated that the lack of reporting customization was one of the  main limitations of our current offering.  As such, this first release does not include reporting graphs or dashboards.  However we know that the display of data in this format is important so we are working on adding this capability.

So what can you do with Insightly's Advanced Reporting?  Advanced reports let you create custom tabular reports based on fields and parameters that you choose. These powerful reports can be saved, shared, and—with a paid subscription plan—set up for scheduling and email alerts. You can export these tabular reports and use the data to create graphs in programs like Excel or PowerBI.

Watch our video tutorial Creating Advanced Reports to see the capabilities of this new feature.

  • Thanks - will the finished version include any charts or graphs? I agree it would be nice to have reports by tag. Also my Opportunity ' Date Closed (Actual) ' doesn't link to the date it's closed on any closed opportunities (regardless of whether it's won/suspended/abandoned/lost) so I can't create a report for opportunities won last month.

  • Well done on what you have delivered so far. Its a start, and a good one at that.

Regarding outut format - I dont really care for the bells and whistles, frilly cosmetics.... such as graphs etc.

What is much much more important to me is nuts and bolts functional features such as:

    - Filtering / Output / Reporting by TAGs

    - Ability to Join at least two tables by the "linked records". Ie run a report to select a list of Opporunitites, and for each Opporunity show a few fields (standard or custom fields) from the the linked contact(s) records... if there are 5 Contact linked to an opp... just repeat the output of record 5 times for the different linked contacts.

    - the ability to feed the report output into the corresponding main record type Insighlty screen Contact report output ---> standard Insighlty CONTACTS tab/screen, Opportunitunity report --> standard Insighlty OPPPORTUNITY tab/screen, PRoject report ---> standard Insighlty PROJECTS tab , Tasks report ---> standard Insighlty TASKS tab/screenetc.... thus unlocking all the functionality on those standard Insighlty screens (Contact, Opportunity, Project, Tasks) once you have one or more records selected (bulk edit, managing links and tags, mass delete etc). This would allowing the custom reports (with all their filtering features) to act like custom filters... as a front end tool to select multiple records meeting specified criteria (the report filters) ....  but with so so so much more felxibility and power. This would be a 1000% imporvement on the existing Custom Filters (that you can't copy or edit and have no way or specifying explicit AND/OR conditions with the right logic/parenthesis!).

Lots of good stuff (Drag on drop is nice, grouping good, saving, sharing, editing, scheduling and email alerts all great) but at present its really just a single table query tool (That does not include TAGS, no joins and does not leverage/integrate with you existing main screen/tabs to combine their power).... a great start - but not really what I'd call an advanced reporting tool.

Good start - hopefully stage 2 is on it way soon :)

  • Hi Jane & Mia! Thank you so much for your comments. Yes, this release of Advanced Reporting is Stage 1 and we are already looking at new features and functionality - including the ability to create visual graphs for Stage 2. As feedback is important in helping us prioritize these improvements, please remember to vote up the ones that mean the most to you. Thanks again!

  • Hi Jane -- I'm sorry you're having trouble getting your Won opportunities to appear under Date Closed (Actual). By chance, when you're in Advanced Reporting are you using the templated Opportunity report that's already loaded when you click on Opportunity Reports in the left rail? This report is setup to pull in Date Closed (Actual) column when you hit the green Run Reports button at top.  Keep in mind that Date Closed (Actual) only displays Opportunities that are in a Won state. Opportunities in a state of Open, Lost, or Abandoned, do not have a "Date of Actual Close" and will never appear in this column. If you could provide a screen shot of what you're seeing, we would love to help you further. Thanks!

  • It would be nice to be able to add a Title to the report.

Also, is there a way to show a numeric custom field as a dollar amount?

  • Hi Becky! You can rename any report by clicking the Save button (even the pre-existing template reports) so while there's no way to add a description hopefully you can rename the report as the "title" and give to something that explains exactly what information the report provides.

In order for us to show a numeric custom field as a dollar amount, the custom field would need to be created to accept dollar amounts. This is something to consider so thanks for the feedback!

  • We are looking for some feedback on this reporting challenge.

We have a report that shows all Opportunities where there is a linked Contact.

We then want to generate a report that takes those contacts linked to open opportunities and send them to MailChimp via the integration for a communication campaign.

How would we pull those contacts?

Right now it looks like we would need to add them to a filter one by one….
