  • Hi Rudi:

    I've removed your email for your privacy :)

    Custom Fields are not currently included in our web form options. You can still add additional fields to your Web to Contact or Web to Lead forms. However the  information will be added to the 'Background' information for a Web to Contact and 'Description' information in a Web to Lead form. To do this you will need to locate the Description/Background field and input similar to this format:

    <br/><label for="Description">Favorite Color: </label><input id="insightly_Description" name="Description" type="text"/>
    <br/>

    When a user submits the form entering the value "blue", then the Insightly record will be created with additional information in the designated field

    favoritecolor: blue.

    Hope this works for you.

    What I don't understand about this is that the insightly api supports custom fields and even tags so that any third party service can produce forms that write to custom fields but insightly's own webforms are incapable of doing so? It doesn't make sense!

    BTW: has anyone seen a third-party app that actually does this? I was hoping that jotform.com would do it since they have insightly rather well integrated, but unfortunately, they don't use the full scale of the api either. The only service I found so far that does is zapier so that it works to have your third-party form app write into, say google sheets and the have zapier read the sheet and send it to insightly. It's a bit complicated and error prone solution though, given the many steps where something can go wrong...

  • Hi Christoph,

    You can also use Zapier and Wufoo forms. I have always had good luck with using Zapier and Wufoo forms. You might try it and see.

  • FYI, I just received notice from jotform that they have now integrated insightly custom fields in their forms, i.e. there's no need to go go via Zapier anymore. Well done jotform! It took them just over a week to implement this fix after I suggested it last Thursday. Ironically, insightly itself has not managed to make custom fields available in its own forms in months.

  • Hi All-

    I have some VERY exciting news!

    We now have Custom Fields in Web to Lead and Web to Contact form. This is going to be formally announced later this evening; but I wanted you all to be the first to know. Your support for this feature was extremely important and appreciated.
