How to automatically add tags to records created via Web to Contact/Lead

I'm experimenting with Insight.ly, and strongly considering making the switch from our existing CRM.

One feature that we certainly need is the ability to automatically tag new records submitted via Insightly's Web to Contact/Lead forms. e.g., if the Lead form is on a "Register for Info about X" page, then the resulting record should be tagged "Registered for Info about X".

Is there a hidden field key that we can use for tags? Or some other approach?

  • Hi Andrew,

While this is not an automated approach, it might serve as a workaround. If you are indicating "Register for Info about X" in a custom field, you can create a filter by that criteria and bulk tag. So for you the filter might look like "[Custom Filter Name] equals Register for Info about X"

For example, we use "Area of Interest" as a custom field. So I would create a filter "Area of Interest equals Pricing" to pull all the Leads interested in Pricing. You can save the filter for future use:

Then, once you've isolated those leads, you select them all and Manage Tags and you can add the tag Pricing to all Leads at once.

    I hope this helps!

Don't delay. insightly is wonderful. One word to solve your problem: Zapier. This should be super easy.

  • Thanks Amanda, Eric.

These are both good ideas that I will look at. However, they seem a little 'hacky'. From examining the form markup generated by Insightly and the API, it would suggest that it may be possible to include a hidden form field along the lines of the following:

    <input type="hidden" name="tags[0].TagName" value="Name-Of-My-Tag"/>

But we have not been able to find an input name that works correctly to assign the tag.

    Is this approach possible?

  • Zapier is absolutely one of my favorite tools. Give it a look first. Truly remarkable tool. Read this! http://74systems.com/add-task-voice-insightly-using-amazon-echo-alexa-using-ifttt-gmail-zapier/

  • Thanks Eric,

Yes we use Zapier, but would prefer not to introduce yet-another-service into the mix if we can avoid it for such a simple task.

Ideally there is a form tag/ input tag that we can use to achieve this. Do you know whether this is possible?

If not, we would submit the form to our servers and then on to Insightly via an API call, rather than involve Zapier in this.

Would be great to know whether Insightly forms support this 'out of the box' though.

  • Hi Andrew,

As it is Insightly does not offer "a form tag/ input tag" on the "out of the box" web to contact/lead forms. If you do not wish to use Zapier, you can use Insightly's recommended website form integration "Ninja Forms" which offers custom field support (instead of using tags).

Note: Generally, we recommend using Zapier for the "search record first, then create record" functionality as it may help reduce duplicates.

If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know.

    Thank you,

    Micah Feldkamp
