convert an opportunity back to a lead

I was wondering if it was possible to convert an opportunity back to a lead. Before all the leads were put in opportunities, but now the company is growing, it's necesary to also use leads. Is it possible to convert the information back?

  • Hi Feian,

    You can't change an Opportunity back to a lead. What you can do is change a Lead to a Contact instead of an Opportunity. When you want to use that "Contact" again - not sure of your business model - you can clone the Contact into another lead. Just go to the Contact and under the "Action' pull down tab, find what action you would like to do.

  • PLEASE add the ability to convert opportunities back to leads.  More and more I'm finding I need this function.  I don't want to erase the history I've created in an opportunity by closing it out and then starting a whole new lead.  The function you suggest above doesn't work for our company because one contact might have multiple leads and/or opportunities at the same time.

  • Yes, unfortunately, the same counts for us. Please make this an option! And also to convert projects back to opportunities. It just sometimes happens that you're already working on something and due to for example funding, a project needs to be put on hold again and even converts back to an opportunity. In order not to loose all the info it would be great to 'back-convert' both projects to opportunities and opportunities to leads.

  • This is a major flaw!!!  Please add this feature or at least post the reasoning behind it. its really annoying when someone in the team accidently converts a lead to opportunity before it has met all creteria and we have to export then import. it feels like web 2.0 data entry. Please Please Please make this a feature

  • Can't convert and opportunity back to a contact? You've got to be joking ? This system was clearly written by someone who has never actually been in sales.

  • I agree, buyers are liars. They change their mind all the time.  Anyone who has worked in sales knows the relationship.  From my understanding, Insightly previously left Leads as leads when an opportunity was created.  Now once an opportunity is created the Lead becomes a contact.  This is a major flaw. I suggest the programmer review his or her programmer logic.
