Changing a lead to a contact custom fields not mapping

I have mapped custom fields in leads to feed into contacts.  When I choose "Change Lead to Contact" it doesn't map over the custom field values.  When I choose "Convert Lead" it does map the custom fields.  I don't want to create opportunities I just want to convert the lead to a contact and bring the custom field values over with it.  Am I doing something wrong?  Please help wanting to press ahead with implementing the use of the software in my company.

    There isn't anything wrong with your steps, each of those steps that occur when you convert or change a Lead does process this way. There isn't an option to turn Opportunity creation off.  I'm going to move your post over to Our Ideas & Suggestions page for other users to vote and comment on.

  • Lyla, you say that this happens - i.e., fields map when you change a lead to a contact. However, I can't get it to work. I have the fields mapped, but when I change a lead to a contact, I lose all my custom fields (don't loose notes and tasks etc) but I'm losing my custom fields despite having them mapped in the back end.

    Quite frustrating to have to go and re-enter all the information again.

    I see that this is still not fixed. Mapped custom fields are only 'migrated over' to contacts when the lead is converted to an opportunity. When I test it with plain 'Convert To Contact' the value of a custom field in the new contact is blank.
