sorting reports

The Contact Report sorts with the first name of the contact. Not helpful. The sort order remains the same even after rearranging columns. I have added the Organization name to my report and would like it to sort by Organization name. The only way I can currently accomplish this is to export to Excel and then sort and save as a pdf. Kind of a hassle. Am I missing something? Do I need to create a Custom Report and if so will that allow me to sort the way I prefer?  Is it possible to have all standard reports sort on the first column even if the column order is changed?

    When running a Contact Report you have the option to click on the column to sort in a way you find useful. You do not need to create a Custom Report to accomplish this. Currently, there isn't a way to have all standard reports sort on the first column even if the column order is changed.
