Tasks not linked when Merging Organizations - normal? Work around?

Today I merged two duplicate organizations - the "Master" record had all the linked Contacts, Projects, Opportunities, but the duplicate record (auto created from an email) had all of the Tasks / Activities. After the merge, the original Tasks were no longer linked to the new parent Organization.

Is this normal? Shouldn't the Master record inherit the Activities as well?

In case anyone else experiences this, here was my work around:

1. I recovered the duplicate Organization from the Recycle Bin.

2. From Tasks, I created a filter to find all of those linked to the duplicate organization.

3. I used "Bulk Edit" to link all these Tasks to the correct parent.

4. I then merged the organizations.

While this worked, it was not at all what I expected. The dialog warning box during the merge process doesn't specify than any linked associations will be lost from the duplicate child organization.

So, is this normal or a bug? Are any other linked records being lost? I couldn't find the answer in any help docs. I really think when you merge, all linked items should be inherited by the parent Master Record.
